Title: Indoor Net Oxford Area
Post by: uknsaunders on September 30, 2012, 04:56:03 PM
A few of us are trying to sort out a net in the Oxford area. Is anybody up for it or could recommend a place to use?

I'm in kineton, south Warwickshire and oxford is approx an hour away. That's fine for me to do the odd session pre xmas. Wouldn't go any further south.

Henry - give Hosk a nudge for me, he's ignoring me (which is understandable)

Might be able to help.  There are a few schools that have indoor nets, but it is hard to get a slot. Try the following schools
Burford
Lord Williams (Thame)
Oxford Academy
Oxford Spires Academy
Sports Centre at Wheatley Park
also think there may be an indoor net at the school at Eynsham.

Also the private schools have nets.  radley etc..

My team have a slot at Oxford Spires School on Sundays, could let you have it for a week, PM me

I will give a couple a call this week and invite Jason too, even though he slobbers and dribbles over the bats whenever we meet up!  ;)
And ignoring you fattus? Never! But I reckon we'll need 2-3 hours to try so many bats!  8)

MCS Oxford have nets which they hire out right in the middle of town. The University have a few at Iffley as well

I think we are trying to get a central location Tim. Pete , I'll leave it in your hands but if you need me to make some enquiries then let me know. I've got a fair bit of spare time evening/weekends so just let me know times and I'll turn up.

If you are looking at central location,  Oxford is a nightmare for parking in the city, especially for people with cricket kit bags. Apparently, looking at the website, Warwick has four cricket nets in its campus sports centre, and is easily accessible from the M1, M40 and M6.

Mr FC is coming as well so we wanted a central location. Otherwise I could net in my own village  :D

I think an easily accessible location with parking is our preferred option.

Well, it's always a possibility. I've always found Oxford to be much more of a pain than you expect, both by train and by car. When are you planning on this net?

I think FC was looking for something to start asap and reasonably regular during this side of xmas.

Given where you both are, would Reading work? The Uni Sportspark there has decent nets.

As the title says, anyone hae any details of a net in that area, pref with a bowling machine.

Half way between Banbury and M25 would be good.

Cheers m'dears!

not yet unless Pete has come up with something. We need something fairly close to the motorway, we can hire for a reasonable cost and has decent lighting. We also need to all agree a time and date(s). Any ideas?

FC is coming from Chertsey so that's a bit fair. I'm coming from Kineton so an hour for both of us is Oxford/Thame/Aylesbury area.

Not agree on a day and a time - Sunday morning will probably work best for me.

I did do my medial ligament in, which is why I have not been running and been inactive!
But I am back in the gym (although not running for another 3-4 weeks) so I will look around now.
I should be safe to do nets now without doing any damage to me knee so will get it arranged  8)

If anyone is interested we have hired Mandeville School which has 4 lanes and we probably don't need all 4 lanes so could sub let a lane this would be 7.30-9 on sunday evenings till end of march if anyone's interested.
