following on from the flat backed scoop without a scoop bat i made for tush i modified the shape slightly and tried a rounded back. stats are as follows
2lb 11 oz with thick spiral or just a shade over 2lb 10oz with a single chevron 32mm edges, 45-50mm spine, round face, rounded back and no concaving, excellent pick up. (red grip)
i wondered what the rounded back would do to the rebound so tested it alot throughout the shaping process. ive got to be honest and say it doesnt seem to have changed.

second one is a traditional profile which will hopefully be stepping out dressed to impress in the new and improved Red Ink livery for 2013. stats are
2lb 9.5 oz with matrix or 2lb 9 with the chevron grip, 22mm edges, 55mm + spine.
no concaving, picks up really nicely and im really starting to like the feel of a traditional bat more and more

i really enjoyed making both bats and the challenges that each shape brings. enjoy!

They look awesome mate. What would happen if you had a slightly convex (I think) shape with higher spine?

on which or both?
-
Well if it was a mix, so thinish straight edges, high spine and convex profile.

to get it convex on the traditional shaped one then you would have to drop the spine slightly to keep it at the same weight as your adding a little weight towards the edges if that makes sense. im more than happy to make one so you can see.

Really nice shapes, specially the first one. Finishing is top notch!

I'll pm you mate save clogging the thread

thanks mate. i use about 7+ grades of paper to make sure its spot on. takes a little longer but i think the effort is worth it

Both bats look very good, loving the bottom one, always use that shape works wonders.
-
Top work mate! oh btw did you check out that link I sent you?
-
Lovely looking bats there
The rounded back bats, would you say the sweet spot is more wide spread. Not better rebound as such but just a bigger sweet spot ?

Yeah mate. Thanks for that.

Obviously depends on the cleft but this seems to suggest so. Have to make a few more to confirm that

Both profiles look great John, i still haven't had a chance to try the un-scoop bat, most likely next march now...

thanks nick, they are about half done. just showing the shape emerging. if i remember rightly it still needed a couple of ounces taken out to get it to its final weight. i think it finished around 2lb 10 fully dressed.

Lovely looking bats John.

I promise to have them up tonight...been lazy and busy all at the same time :)...

Ok here we go, don't remember the exact weight but its between 2.10-11, picks up well and couple of short catches felt good. That is the extent of use this bat has had, here are some pics, John and I both agreed that the back needs to be rounded after the fact but this was made exactly as I asked for...
