Title: British Made
Post by: joeylough on October 04, 2012, 08:22:50 PM
Hello, ive just been watching videos on youtube on how bats are made in the UK and India, and there seems to be a few differences with a more technical and detailed approach in the UK.

But would this be the same in pads and how many brands actually have a UK sourced and made product. I understand that the margins would be a lot lower on a UK made product but is this something that would be look in the UK all together??

No-one makes pads in the Uk. They can be done, but RRP's would be towards the £240 for a pair of pads last time I looked.

it was something I have been thinking about today, as I would like to be able at some point make my own bat and pads, they may not be great but it would be a challenge.

Its a shame that so many things are outsourced. Don't get me wrong if I ran the businesses and I could get more money that way I would properly do the same thing.

Labour charges over here for skilled workers would be mental hence why Tom has said £240 for a pair as you would pay through the nose for them.

It's something I want to do with Vantage, try and get UK Suppliers of Soft Goods and again I due to the skilled workers etc prices are far too high at the moment.

This may sound strange, but some one who makes custom made saddles might be able to help with pads; they are similar skills, working with padding and leather/ pu. Would probably cost you an arm and a leg!

Not odd at all but a good suggestion actually :)

With the troubles a mate has had with Indian suppliers and delivery dates maybe a uk partner that stocks in unbranded pads from India and is a distributor in England would in my eyes be as close as your going to get

So in theory all the vendors send there pads to the uk and the distributor/salesman

But it just like getting samples but a face behind the samples

ive had some proper issues with a certain supplier in india. designs not followed, my logos cut up to fit in the designs rather than changing the size of the logo, 2 months to make the wrong samples and eventually get a part refund( was told the samples would take 2 weeks inc delivery). cost me more than id like for a complete waste of time. id much rather have someone in the Uk to visit and discuss things with but as its been said the costs just arent worthwhile. materials, labour etc are probably all alot cheaper than we can get over here. Unless someone fancies setting something up here and kidnapping some of the indian skilled workers im not sure the costs would ever work out as a viable option lol

could try bulk ordering blank kit from online stockiest and then printing your logo onto the gloves/pads.

It might be the way forward, depends if the cost is similar to the various Indian suppliers and also on the style you need.

Yes but what if somebody had direct links and was in touch with most vendors and had set samples and was in the uk and part of the price you pay was for the item onetime and correct order.
