Title: New pads vs. Traditional pads
Post by: Bull9 on October 07, 2012, 08:53:51 AM
Was thinking about like the Boom Boom pads, how they are a fairly modern design. I much prefer the canes like the Newbery pads or Kookaburra.. Is that just me who thinks like that? Or do people prefer the other newer ones?

I prefer the old style, just complete canes. my current pads have all caned except at the knee roll where it is the new style

I find the fitting and moulding better on traditional as opposed to moderns.

Which Boom Boom interest you? I had Signature 175.

I have the GM RSB's, I like what they have to offer in light weight protection.  Having said that, nothing fits like traditional pads, modern pads tend to be a bit stiff.

GN Legends are the perfect compromise imo. Love the look of those.

My legends were great but a tad bulky the back strap was slightly to high as well on the 2011 in my opinion creating a bulge at either side of the knee

Bit of a pads spotter sorry

IMO Traditional ones look quality but are a pain to bat in, whereas modern ones don't look as good but are much easier to bat in

Those BoomBoom ones are awful! The red BoomBoom ones look fairly traditional though

Same here, I had Newbery Grizzly ones and they were sooooo comfy! The straps were really really long though

I just mean they're a bit wide and obtrusive, but my SG pads have changed my mind a bit on this

I think it could partly be a comfort zone issue, I don't like batting in modern pads as I'm not used to it.

I have always felt that the issue is how the knees fit into the pads, if that is right the pads will fit regardless of style.

so gm or kook ones for me work well...
