Post by: Mr Cricket on October 13, 2012, 11:51:56 AM
Lets hear about the mental techniques that you use or have heard of for batting.

Fielding/bowling also welcome.

Wind self up into state of rage.

Run in and fling ball at batsman at stumps as hard as possible.

If the ball pitches in my half I'm going to try and give it the treatment...

Visualisation is one of the best techniques.

Being serious

Bowling I use the warne mentality of trying to make the batsman play the shots I want him to play so can control game

Batting play in my areas and ignore muppets in field just play each ball no matter how good or bad

as a bowler just before the run up i take a second close my eyes imagine whats going to happen in that ball open my eyes imagine it happening in front of me and bowl i dont look at a point on the ground like some people do I just bowl by the time i look up the ball has already reached the batsmen and yeah hopefully the bails are off :)

If you are having to tell yourself to ignore people then I would suggest you have already let them get inside your head.

Best mental techniques are done before the game. Then during the game your mind is clear.

Imagine the bowler running in is naked...that always makes me chuckle and i automatically release any nervous tension

Tell myself that before game as I let my cricket do talking as generally shuts them up as some real beep beeps in league that try to make up for lack of talent with big mouths but I wind them up as I just chuckle as I've always found it amusing

Case in point opening batting gettin crap about being all leg next 3/5 balls go through cover for 4 no more noise

Serenity

Lets just say not very good had worst year for 7 years with bat but due to other things like moving up and down order from 2 to 8 as first year at new club and did not get settled or chances but did well with ball at least

Perhaps change your mindset ? I don't know and from reading 2 paragraphs maybe way off the mark but your mindset seems to be to go in smash some quick boundaries, shut the fielders up and then get out for 30 ?

Perhaps change to 'im going to score a 100 today and win the game and not give it away"

Completely depend on situation mate few times last year I came in at 18-5 and 46-6 so batted and fought to get us up to decent total just got to find my place at new club which I will be settled next year then can find form

I do look to be positive but not a slogger by any means

the mental side of the game is the biggest thing you should work on, you can increase your average by a big big margin .....

You need to employ a mental techniques to a few areas ...

Before the game you must focus on the match, run through what you want to do, run through the bowlers you will face and what you are going to do to score 100.

during the game you need to focus your mental techniques on:

1. your composure .... dont get too wound up, too over confident or in too much of a lull.
2. your concetration ... you need to foucs your concetration as the bowler is running up
3. the opposition .... never ever shy away from a confrontation with the fielders/bowlers, if you have points 1 and 2 perfected it wont affect your game. Dont be scared to tell a bowler what you think of him and meet him half way down so he could get a better look at you.

1 and 2 and the pre game stuff for sure.
3 is up to the player. I prefer to ignore the oppo especially the bowler. let them use there energy on hot air. I prefer the trott bubble approach.

different approaches work for different players. some need to get wound up, I prefer to stay relaxed.

I just tend not to think when I go out to bat and when batting

I after so many years know my mental game and agree it what works for you

Visualise before the game then trust in my game

Music tends to help for me, especially when batting. Can really help when it comes to getting in the mood...

If your thinking to much your not acting on natural things

All horses for courses but I know a lad who things about things too much and because of this is wasting his talent

Almost like an exam, if you spend too long on one question it becomes harder and harder to answer. Need to find the balance between instinct and intellect.

I just sing a song in my head as the bowler is running in, have done since I was a kid.
