Title: Why do you use, what you use?
Post by: Cover_Drive on October 21, 2012, 07:48:58 PM
Nearly everyone here has more than one bat, so at the end of the day on match days only one bat is used in the middle. So my question for you guys (first and fore-mostly for myself) is that, "Why do you use, what you use?"

For me it was Screaming Cat, so why did I use Screaming Cat?

Few reasons;

- Felt best in hands (maybe it was due to fact I had started using the bat in February and used it all the way till my last net of the season, didn't use any other bat in middle)
- Elongated Middle
- Remarkable Ping

So above are three key point why I chose Screaming Cat over other bats.

Nice topic.
Blueroom Bombora
- split toe on Redback
- lovely balance & pings like a beauty
- I got an unbeaten fifty first time with it

I have two match bats, the blank and revolution, I use whatever feels right when I am getting ready.

both are lively.

Sounds good, but is the feel similar? I mean so imagine if you used BlankBats on Saturday and got a fifty (or century even ;) ) then would you use same bat on Sunday even?

Fair-enough, use it in nets as well?

I use my FiL bat in nets. Or maybe one of the new ones...

Depends on the track ie low bounce then a lower middle bat. How fast the bowlers ie faster bowlers then a lighter bat also the stage of the game. Saying that though i probably used the same bat in 15 of the 20 innings i had last season because it felt the nicest and i had confidence in it.

CF Premier Cru or Chase FLC. Same as Buzz, I just decide which I most like the feel of at the time....got a few others but they'll all be going in the next few months. Need to use a bat to it's full potential instead of chopping and changing every 5 mins!

Why these two in particular? Both are 'ready' whereas all my other bats need either more knocking in or more playing in. Couldn't say for sure they're the best bats I have although the CF is the actual one that did so well in both the Southern and Northern Batoffs.

Helios Atlas, almost every other bat I have used in a match I have shifted.

It is a little heavier than what I used to use, but at the pace I play against, this is actually not too bad
Responsiveness is EXCEPTIONAL
Large hitting area, and a thick strong toe
I can focus more on timing rather than trying to hit the ball hard

I use whatever bat I feel like in the nets, but used to use the bat I normally used for games the most in the nets, while swapping for another bat at least once each net session.

I go with what feels good at the time. Start with the icon, h4l felt better in nets so I went back to that. However, moved onto lower decks and decided the icon's toe was bigger, so went back to that. Don't like to move between bats too often but when they all weigh much the same and pickup is similar it's less of an issue.

Used the SAF Hades all last season & will continue to do so, although will have a replica which may be used for nets as the original is awesome.

My Hades, after I got it, and before that, my instinct. The reason for both they just feel right!

I have one bat, but right now I wouldn't want to use anything else. No pro bat, £500 bat or whatever will make any addition to my game over my £100 Icon.

Middle is where I hit the ball most (not because of my ability, just the most common hit section of the bat)
Pick up is awesome, as is the balance
Weight is right
Handle feels right
Looks good too

The part made i finished off. The handle feels beautiful in my hands and it picks up like a dream! I also wouldn't want to let something i've put a lot of time and effort into making go to waste...

whatever I feel most confident with basically.  If I'm at our main ground, something like my Black Cat or H4L which are balanced all rounders, if we're stuck on the Green then the big Newbery comes out.  And for CS games, it has to be the new Distinction to give me that fraction of a second!

After a few less than satisfying knocks with a very cheap, very heavy bat that I couldn't get on with, I put my hand in my pocket for a much better grade, much lighter bat. In all honesty, in the season we've just had weather wise I don't think it is anywhere near played in, but it does feel as though it is getting there. But, like a lot of guys on here you start to think, I wonder if 'brand x' is all it's cracked up to be? And towards the end of the season I made another purchase and paid for it to be knocked in. I haven't used it yet, but I'm hoping to give it a gentle introduction in off season nets, and also to continue playing in my current bat too, so that next season I will have a first choice, and a 'spare' that I'm happy with, should anything untoward happen.

I use RPC as its the best performing bat (In my head) I have in all aspects bar one, it is slightly bottom heavy. Feel of the bat and rebound is the best i have had (again mentally thats what i feel/think)..

Had an interesting experience over last 2-3 weeks: Took Screaming cat out to bat and was caught at deep mid-wicket boundary (that was the first time i had used that bat) and thought that came into my head was it was a perfect connection, sounded sweet but did not go the distance, i should have used my RPC, well next week i used the RPC and got out the exact same way (it was near identical everthing) and thought i had was I played a bad shot as I know this bat could have cleared any boundary...

A lot of it is mental, what you feel most confident using. I must have had 2-3 good innings with RPC this season but its that confidence in the bat from good memories that stops me from using anything else / makes it seem better i guess..

Depends which feels best in the hands the morning of the match for me, Might sound weird but if i know we are facing a couple of decent quicks i will normaly start with a light 2lb 7oz willostix then may change to my normal 2lb 9ox M&H but this doesn't happen to often

Tried hitting the ball away from the bloke out there? :-P

I use a 2.8 mongoose Cor3. Nice large middle and bat with glasses and no lid so its aptly mobile for the inevitable short stuff.

Very occasionally use a goose mmi, would love to use it more, but its a pretty situation specific bat & it seems to take me a while to get my technique sorted with it.

I use a 2.13 Shark Great White and a 2.10 Newbery GT Players. I've yet to use the GT as it's just arrived from Paul @IJC but the reason I bought it was a had a GT SPS a few seasons back which I sold and shouldn't have.

The Shark I have now was a replacement for last one and is a good 3oz heavier than what I would normally use but if feels great in the hands and picks up very well due to the high middle (although i'm still deciding if it's a touch heavy and to have some weight taken off).

I expect the Shark to continue be my main bat as the ball just flies of the face and the middle is pretty much the bottom 2/3 of the blade. I normally bat around no. 5-7 so it's pack enough punch if I have to go in towards the end of the innings and just about light enough for the more 'deft' touches.

The GT I see myself using if I end up opening or batting at 3 which does happen from time to time, especially if I drop down a team. Both bats are very responsive and have similar placed middles, the Shark has no concaving which I prefer.
