Title: Cricket balls
Post by: thedon on October 30, 2012, 09:18:36 AM
Has anyone used any of the following mens cricket balls?

If so are they any good?
I did order the ca league balls a few years ago, but their sales team couldnt tell me if the woodworms are of similar quality.

the danger with all these balls is whether they are bat breakers or not. Recent experience of JJB/Sports direct balls are they tend to go very quickly soft more often than not.

If you want a decent £5-6 ball and are willing to order a fair few, Raje Sports in Dewsbury makes proper match balls on a budget. I've seen Raje busy rejecting readers and dukes league balls before due to imperfections. He knows his stuff.

You cant go wrong with woodworm balls as I know the manufacturer of them in Pakistan. I got balls made by them before and they are top quality.

don't think he ever had a working website lol

We had a few of his balls last year and they swung a bit, had a good seam and weren't over lacquered. Hold there shape well and the match used ones soon get nicked for decent net balls. If Simmy/Liam come on this thread I'm sure they'll agree.

We also had some Shamrock balls as well and they were pretty good, if a bit more. 2012 I brought a cheap batch of Kooks on sale in JJB and tbh they weren't great. Issues with shape and lacquer cracking.

I have to say that Asad gave us a cricket ball to try for our 1st XI, and after using it, then bowlers were raving about these balls and amazing at how well they were still performing...even after 45 overs!!!!
The Captain has insisted he wants 24 more of them!
And we have ordered another 12 of the 'cheaper' ones for the 2nd XI.

We've used loads of them, for nets and T20 matches, and no problems with the bats, I would say they are a great cheap ball.

Having said that we don't have anyone who is really rapid.
