Well while all our pommy mates are holed up inside hiding from the cold reminiscing on the summer that was, I think it's only fair to share how our season in the golden sunshine is progressing. Good summer so far, sun has been shining and not a sign of rain!
I've managed to get 6 games in so far, my tally looks a little like this:
- 6 innings, 280 runs @ 66. HS 69*
- 48.3 overs, 10 wickets for 130 runs. BB 4/20
How is this summer shaping up for everyone else??
-
Nice work mate. Are you down in NSW now?
Make my comeback game from my broken foot this week. Am bloody pumped to finally get back out there :D
-
Yeah buddy in NSW now.
Mate I bet you are!! You have been out of action for a while now...hopefully you get your season underway with a bang!
-
Too poor to even talk about it so far... Haha

Sounds like a plan ;)

I reckon swinging a 2.8 pound bradman replica after years of swinging a 4 pound buffed and stickered part-made would (No Swearing Please) with anyone's timing.
-
We should all catch up and have an Aussie forum net one day...or just a few beers whatever suits :)
-
Erm have batted once and got 4 then got caught, and have bowled 10 odd overs for about 30 runs with 1 wicket :)
-
Been a bit all over the place playing different games for different clubs at different levels but so far weather has been nice which is all I can ask for! First week was called off but lets face it, the chances of playing in October in Vic are very minimal...always seems to rain.
Managed to make a few runs but also a 2 (run out >:() and a duck drag it down..
-
Played a few games all of them injured, then it got a lot worse and i have missed 7 weeks :(, but get back to it next week :D. sort of ruined quite a bit of my season
-
Played on a wet green track today, got sent in and it was moving all over the shop, we got to 190...I was out caught for 99...gutted! Didn't know I was on 99 and was batting with our number 11 so was chasing twos not singles! Oh well....we rolled them for 60 picked up a cheeky wicket our opener picked up 7!! Good win anyway
-
Wet green wickets in Australia???!! You must be lying!! We are to believe in England that its constant 50+degrees heat and rock hard roads to bat on ;)
P.s well Batted buddy
-
Bowled them out for 301 today off 77 overs. Long day in the field, we were playing on a road with a super fast outfield.
-
First game back for me today. Was supposed to be last week, but the rain ruined that, and almost ruined today as well. We ended up getting on for a 35 over a side game (usually 40 over's each for one day games) and would have been the only grounds to get on in grade cricket today (Our field and another one in the same complex).
We batted first and we were all out for 193 off 32.5 overs. I top scored with 44 off 40 odd balls (all the top 7, bar 1 who got a duck, got starts but no one went on with it). Could have more but we lost our last 6 wickets for 40 or so, so bit of a collapse in the search of quick runs. The field was a little bit wet but the it ran surprisingly quickly.
We ended up rolling them for 82 in the 23rd over, so a very solid win for us and with some bonus points too, which is excellent considering all the other games would have been drawn so split points for them.
Best part of the day by a long way was that my foot held up really well, a little bit stiff now, but overall I am very happy :D

Unlucky! But 99 is still a bloody good score

I only read this post because I thought it sais Anne Summers!
Sorry, and carry on! :-)

Thanks to the clinic I finally started to get on with my Laver/Bradman replica today... Finally finding my timing for a quickfire 61..
Have to add that the bat performed spectacularly.
-
Good to hear mate! My laver just keeps getting better, got more runs yesterday, 80 not out. Got rep today so hopefully get a few more. Nearly cracked 500 runs in 8 knocks now (all games including rep) just waiting for a lean spell to come!

Where I came from this is how it was! Down here in NSW it's alot colder, and playing on uncovered pitches doesn't help much either!
-
Lost by 11 runs on Saturday chasing 301. Made 16 before trying to smash a leg spinner over cover point. Didn't quite work out funnily enough!
-
Unlucky buddy! Where do you play your cricket?
We won both games on the weekend, local grade and rep. Won easily on Saturday posting 201 from 40 overs (40 over one dayer) and restricted them to 100. I managed 80* in that one.
Rep on sunday we rolled them for 112 on what I thought was a decent wicket, then we managed to get the runs I think 6 or 7 down. I managed another cheeky red-inker 40* coming in at 3. Am somehow managing to average something like 97 this season (4 not outs help!!!) which is decent batting at 3 or opening every week!
-
Took a 3fer at the weekend which was good, then got a golden duck, we had won the game by that point so didn't matter to much, still can't get my head around Australian rules of cricket
-

No good about the quacker mate!!!
And if its any conselation, I couldn't get my head around the English rules of cricket when I spent a season there last year! Winning draws, losing draws....blah!! Are you playing two day or one day cricket over in the west mate??
-
One day mate, 45 overs. We can skittle a side for 84 which we done at weekend, and then get it and keep batting, what's the point I wanna get on the beers

why do you keep batting? do both teams have to bat the full overs or get bowled out?
there were a couple of run chases I was involved with last summer when I would have liked to keep batting when we had chased down the runs! must be even more demoralising if you are fielding.
-
Can't say I've played with those rules anywhere over here...is it for bonus points on the run you score/wickets you take?
-
I haven't played those rules either. Once you reach the score that's it, end of game.
2 day games there is the second innings, so even if there is no hope of changing the result, if there is still time left, you still go out. It can be helpful though, as you get points per wicket you take (0.25) and per run you make (0.01), so it can make a difference come finals time.

I play 2nd XI C Turf in the Eastern Cricket Association down in Melbourne, decent enough standard for me!
Yeah, same here, we don't bat on either. Get the runs end of game. But you can go for outright I think and bowl a side out twice for under your score.
-
We have played a 5 games, with 3 wins, 1 loss and a draw. Weather was average to start the season in Vic but not a surprise apparently. We played against the team that beat us in the GF last season and they rolled us for 61, then batted all their 45 overs for 250. It was not the best way to spend a hot day.
-
I am quitely glad that tomorrow's weather is not coming two days later. 38 degrees, you have got to be kidding me.

I feel so sorry for you, one can only imagine what it would be like to be too hot to play cricket!!

Who do you play for in the ECA Tugga?

Just about at the halfway point of the Aussie Summer, with one more weekend till we knock off for christmas. Hows everyones seasons shaping up?
Our team is sitting well second on the ladder hopefully a good second half will see us playing finals.
Decent season keeps on going for myself, have only played five 1st grade games but have managed to chalk up 323 runs @ 107.66.
For all games im sitting on 570 runs @ 81 in 11 innings and have gotten 14 wickets @ 13. Will hopefully crack the 500 first grade runs and 1000 total runs for the season, fingers crossed!
Get to play against a touring Kiwi team first weekend of the new year so something to look forward to there!
Hope everyone else is having a cracker season so far!

You really need to come and play in a decent comp in Newcastle mate haha
-
Yeah your probably right!
-
Good to see you scoring plenty though

going into the year i was a specialist batsmen at the age of 14 because I couldn't bowl for (No Swearing Please). I was playing in our 3rds first game of the year and the captain gives me the ball and I had no idea of what I was going to bowl, the year before I started bowling leg spin but it didn't pan out that well but it was still heaps better than my slow pace so i decided to bowl leg spin and ended up with 2-20 off 8. I went home that day actually impressed with my bowling so i kept on practising and i was bowling so well I almost made the leagues rep side haha. Im still learning and I do get hit around but oh well.
Im still doing well with the bat, never made a 50 before this year and I now have 3 next to my name so I guess that good and my stats halfway through the year look something like this
Batting:
18 matches, 15 innings, 3 Not outs, 3 50s, 356 runs @ 33.7
Bowling:
18 matches, 75 overs, 3 maidens, 440 runs :S, Econ 5.87, Wickets 24 @ 18.33

Diddums :( We're about to have our fifth 40+ day here in the west, with a couple more forecast for Sunday and Monday. It's been a joke. Glad we're on a break for the holiday period, but we did have a couple of stinkers (40 and 43) fall on match days last season. No doubt we'll get another one or two this.

Hi Guys,
First time posting in here, great to see so many like-minded people who love their cricket, but also their equipment, and I'm a bit of a cricket bat junkie! I grew up in Melbourne but for the last 3 and a half years have lived in Perth and play for Western Suburbs CC in the WASTCA comp. To be honest I haven't found the heat too bad, it's only when travelling out to places like High Wycombe and Swan Valley where you feel it more as there is no sea breeze, and if there is an easterly coming from the desert, it makes it far more uncomfortable. Thankfully our home ground is close enough to the coast that the Freo Doctor cools things down nicely.
Been a tough year for our club, 1s yet to win a game and are just above the relegation area, my team in 3rd Grade (2nd XI) won our first game but lost every game after that. My season very frustrating, opening bat, scores of 26, 26, 28, 17 and 23, got a start every game and found a way to get myself out...
-
Got pumped by a touring kiwi side today, meant to be the south island rep colts team or something like that! Had a keeper that was very sharp behind the stumps. I was shocked to wield the only laver from both teams!
-
@ Jenko do you play grade cricket as in sydney grade or similar or inter district grade?

Nah mate I'm out in the sticks, play in the hunter valley. Sydney is 2.5hours away. Wish I could play Sydney grade cricket....haven't played good grade cricket since I was 16/17/18 in Brisbane and then premier league in England 2 years ago.

Bloody hot day today. Day meant for batting, and luckily we won the toss.
Myself and another bloke opening. The other bloke couldn't run as he hurt his knee in the warm up, but that didn't stop him getting to 112 (12 4's and 8 6's) by the 30th over. He got his hundred and got out before I even got to 50, lol. It was also a bit hard with the runs for me, as there were 2's and 3''s that turned into 1's as he just couldn't take off.
Made my way to the 57th or 58th over and sitting on 98 (11 4's, 3 2's and 48 singles), I play around a straight one and am out LBW. It would have been nice to get the century, but can't be too disappointed though as I edged one straight to the keeper off the spinner when I was on 30 odd, but he didn't give it (The keeper was the only one who went up, but he still wasn't sure). By the time I got out we were 2/288 and declared in the 61st over on 3/303
Sent them in late in the day and have them 3 for not many off 20 or so overs.

It's a nice feeling when you know you've hit it and nobody goes up. Speaking from a batsman's point of view haha

It definitely is. I did feel a little bit bad about it as I am an honest person, but you do get some shocking calls, so you gotta take the good with the bad.
