Title: Willostix Spitfire
Post by: ItsJustCricket on November 09, 2012, 03:55:28 PM
As they weren't at the Lord's show, I was particularly intrigued to see the new offering from Willostix, and have just had the great pleasure of witnessing their brand new bat for 2013 - the Spitfire Classic.

I've taken some photos but don't wish to show them publicly yet, but if anyone's curious, I'm happy to email them over.

Needless to say, she's a beaut - with similar laser engraving to the Anaconda Classic, and Willostix's first English made bat.  We will definitely be stocking them, and should have (at least) one in within a fortnight...

Did you see any profile shots, Tom? Surprised these have made it out, as they prefer a more discreet approach for the time being at least...

Oh my...  The spitfire is one of my favourite planes...  I might have to buy one and never use it.  Just hang it spine out, so I can see the spit!

Not really, slight concaving and huge edges! Even bowed profile/spine though, very nice...

No, it only comes in SH unfortunately, Iain! They said they could do LH/LB on request though.

Yes, there's the option to have personalised laser etching on the edge, which is a really nice touch.  Far less embarrassing than having your name written on your bat in marker pen, like it was for me at school!  :-[

I shouldn't really be saying this, Iain, but 4 new bats on top of what you've already got is bordering on the ridiculous! But each to their own!  8)

I've seen these too, really nice looking bats, Andy already has one reserved for me

The pics were retweeted by Matt Coles who uses willostix, I checked they were happy with them being out there and they was. Paul, redders did say he was going to get me some pics to put out for all is enthusiasts but he never got them over to me. I'd assume they wouldn't have an issue with you posting unless they explicitly said so

Cheers, Ian - Andy said he'd rather just wait until they've got their stock photos in and post those instead.  I'd rather not take the risk of posting my photos publicly (which are pretty awful, to be honest), so am happy to wait.  They just want it to be launched in the best light.  He specifically asked us to do a YouTube review of it as soon as we get them, though, which was nice!  :)

Looks very nice and I bet it will play well. Only problem I and lots of people have had with Willostix is that they break to often and tend to have weak toes. Hopefully they have worked on that for the new range.

I believe this has been something that theyve looked into. To be fair to them their customer service is pretty decent and have always tried to rectify issues pretty quickly

Customer service has indeed always been good when I have dealt with them just annoying when it happens. Really glad they have looked into it as there brand and bats are good. There softs have been excellent last 2 years that I have used them especially the stick pads and gloves.

This is another bat to their range.  They are keeping everything else except the Slugger.

It's slight concaving, huge edges, medium positioned middle.  Weight range 2.7-2.11

Ooooh.
If this Newbery issue doesn't resolve itself, I will probably pick one of these up... They look amazing! Best looking bat on the market in its own way, and I think psychologically its a good thing to be playing with the Spitfire... Best of British and all that...
Why not rename the Slugger the Lancaster or Vulcan and keep this awesome theme going?

Anyone know if Willostix could produce a different shape with those stickers?

I'm sure they could, but I think they'd rather wait and see how it goes this year first...

Another thing about the Spitfire - they are also doing a grade 1 version that has stickers instead of laser engraving.  Pretty cool, 50s style stickers they are too...

Thanks about youtube, but I think what we recorded at salix today makes everything else we've done distinctly average...

These are lovely in the flesh. They pick up really well, and using Paul's mallet, feel great too. With a quick look over them, I reckon people will start to think about where they come from, but they are certainly made in England, and while they are £269.99, I'd say they are just as nice, if not nicer than the V12s.

Personally, I think this little touch makes them worth the outlay ;)
