Title: Bag help
Post by: Leddster138 on November 12, 2012, 11:00:57 AM
I've finally given in on the bag front. I've been using a D&R coffin for two years now and whilst it is practically bombproof, towards the end of the summer it was getting a little frustrating carrying it around and getting lifts with it. So I've had a quick look around at next years bags and narrowed it down to two.

Gunn & Moore Original Duplex Wheelie Cricket Bag 2013

Aero Stand Up Wheelie Cricket Bag 2012/13

Both look great but I as wondering if anyone had either of these before. I've read there are a few problems with wear and tear on both but I'm hoping next years models will have sorted this out.

Thoughts? Any alternatives for 2013

Massive fan of my aero, but again if your getting lifts it probs a pain. Both are big bags though...

I had an original duplex wheelie, the bat cave rubs your bats and scratches them!
Although the 2013 bag does look sweeeeeet!

Thanks guys, at this rate I'll probably buy a car just to accomodate a good bag!

I really like both, I think the GM looks better but I do like some of the reviews I've seen on Aero plus it's a touch smaller.

They both accomodate want I'd like in a bag - place for spikes, place for helmet, room for whites, able to stand, boot sized, wheels.

What might swing it is the words "Bat Cave" printed on the side of the GM!!

When I had a gm the bat cave sanded my bats but I do use big bats

At the moment I'm loving my Newbury tour lovely bag which fits everything nice

I'd recommend the revolution duffle bag personally. I have one and its a good size with two straps to put the bag over your shoulder.

I recommend the kookaburra pro 1000 wheelie mate, I often get a lift and it accommodates that very well. It has a bat cave which holds 3 bats with a top bit where I keep my keeping stuff and a bottom tier where I keep my batting pads and 3x gloves. The bag also has a spikes and helmet cavity which is really great and fits everything in comfortably. Prior to the kook I had the newbery sps bag and I've got to say the kook bag is the best bag I've ever had and I've looked into both aero and gm duplex before purchasing the kook!

Tom, How did you get on with that underlay you bought from me for the bat protection?

To be honest Id recommend that you keep your kit in the coffin at home and take everything you want to take to the game in a duffle , you can fit quite a lot in most of them.

Salix pro bag is IMO the best very safe double bat compartment, huge internal all the pockets etc you need and excellent build quality, i have used mine for what 2 full seasons and still in great nick. I drive a fiesta to matches most weekends and fits fine plus you can fins these for about £50 online

As a lift provider with a large car, I'd make two observations:

1. If you want to take all your kit to games, which requires a big bag, buy your own car.
2. If you want lifts, buy a smaller bag and be selective.

I can get five people and 3 duffles + two Salix Pod Pro bags in the boot. I can't fit a coffin or Newbery Tour sized bag and four other bags. Don't be so selfish!

With my kit I have the largest possible bag for my car - Audi Estate and the Aero Tour bag fits across with no room the spare each end!
If I changed my car, I'd need to change my bag as it's like the Tardis!
But at least I can fit a number of kit bags in the car for others, although as Tim says, if the person doesn't drive then better to have a smaller bag!

I have a Citroen Picasso.  If I take the parcel Shelf off the boot, I can get my M+H Double Decker, a Normal sized wheelie bag and a Duffle in the boot, and usually another across the backseat, depending how many passengers I've got.  I have gone to games where I had pretty much a whole team's kit in the car as everyone else seems to drive little cars...

When it gets to festival season in the summer, I usually have a roofbox on for a few weeks, so that also helps with luggage carrying!

I get lifts to most away games so my Shamrock duffle works a treat.  2 bats (could possibly get another in), pads, 2 pairs of gloves, lid, boots and whites.  I suppose the only issue is that it isn't compartmentalised, but it is a duffle!

I got a kookaburra duffle at the start of last season for about £10 of the internet as I get lifts to every single away game. and its big enough to fit in 2 bats, pads, 2 gloves, thigh pad set, helmet, clothes, boots, bag of balls and whatever small things you want to take go easily in the big front pocket. To be honest I used exactly the same kit as I would have if Id used my massive bag and I annoyed people a whole lot less than I would have done using the bigger bag.  :)
