Owais Shah - Completly overrated
Jimmy Ormond- Not his fault there wasn't really anyone else to pick
-
Ormond survives for his shirp to Mark Waugh...and for the fact that Smith, Igglesden, McCague, Brown and Giddins were all worse!
-
how about: pattison who played one test for england?
and the tall mohammed irfan who played one odi for pakistan last time they were in england
-
I reckon Pattinson mighthave done alright in more suitable conditions!
-
Owais Shah - Completly overrated
Jimmy Ormond- Not his fault there wasn't really anyone else to pick
Shah got 80 odd in his first test match - scrub that. Fat Jimmy has to be in the mix for sure but didn't he come up :-
Ormond was involved in a notable piece of sledging; when, in a Test match against Australia in 2001, Mark Waugh asked him, "Mate, what are you doing out here? There's no way you're good enough to play for England." Ormond replied "Maybe not, but at least I'm the best player in my own family", a reference to Waugh's brother Steve, who was the captain of the Australian team.[1]
He only averaged 92 with the ball and had a personality, got to be worse cricketers than Jimmy.
-
11 year old me got to see my first test matches during the '93 Ashes, but gutted with some of the selection that went on...
Lathwell?
McCague?
Igglesden?
At leat some of the other unheard of's came good in the end (Thorpe and Hussain)
Chris Schofield might well get in a worst XI
-
can't think of a full team yet
but there would be big competition in the spin bowling stakes as well as the numerous aussie and south african no hopers in recent years we should think about chris schofield or alex loudon
-
Min Patelmight keep him out...
-
Which keeper
Blakey or Paul downtown or Kamran Akmaal
Alan wells
-
Gavin Hamilton need I say more?
-
http://www.espncricinfo.com/england/content/player/20051.html
Ian Salisbury must be up there
-
Right lets start at the beginning opening bats
Mine are
Latherwell
And Clayton lambert
-
Chris Adams
Ian Salisbury - anybody that can take 1 or 2 wickets on turners in Pakistan and get outbowled by Giles deserves an automatic inclusion. That said he actually batted ok!
-
floyd riefer as skipper for me
with gavin tongue
and lionel baker as seam options
-
Which keeper
Blakey or Paul downtown or Kamran Akmaal
Alan wells
Downton's career was ruined by an eye injury so no. Blakey must be a better keeper than Akmal. Akmal is the worst keeper I've ever seen in International Cricket.
-
Uzman Afzaal
-
he got a 50 in test cricket, must rule him out.
Leibenberg - to be a walking wicket against the England attack of thr 90s takes some doing.
-

Totally agree Kamran Akmal is a joke cricketer! How about Mark (Mike?) Lathwell??
-
You could make a team from the 90's section here;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_England_Test_cricketers#The_1990s
Aftab Habib
Warren Hegg
Simon Brown
KP would add Nick Knight :D :D
-
Owais Shah - Completly overrated Jimmy Ormond- Not his fault there wasn't really anyone else to pick
Disagree here. Owais Shah is a very talented batsman. In a decade when England are struggling to find a middle order that can play spin he should have played many more Test matches in the sub continent. Abysmal runner and poor fielder granted but so was Inzamam and he didn't have a bad Test career
-
amjad khan: 1 test wicket at 122.
respect for someone that average to play in a test, what a hero
-
Jason Gallian?
Chris Lewis?
Hahahahaha! Just seen the shoe in for captain! Dermot Reeve!
-
Did Dermot play test cricket. I imagine Adam Hollioake would be a candidate.
Must be some pretty awful Windies players to add in over the last 20 years?
-
Phil Simmons - club cricketer
Junior Murray
-
Found this
After Bob Willis claimed that Paul Harris was the worst bowler ever to play a test, it got me thinking about who is the worst Test XI that England have had in the last 30 years or so? Also open it up to other Test nations.
For England and just off the top of my head I would go with,
1 - Bill Athey (23 tests - 991 runs at 22.97)
2 - Geoff Cook (7 tests - 203 runs at 15.61)
3 - Rob Bailey (4 tests - 119 runs at 14.87)
4 - Chris Adams (5 tests - 104 runs at 13.00)
5 - Matthew Maynard (4 tests - 87 runs at 10.87)
6 - Chris Cowdrey (6 tests - 101 runs at 14.42 / 4 wickets at 77.25)
7 - Robert Blakey (2 tests - 7 runs at 1.75 / 2 ct)
8 - Gareth Batty (7 tests - 11 wickets at 66.63)
9 - Saj Mahmood (8 tests - 20 wickets at 38.10)
10 - Martin McCague (3 tests - 6 wickets at 65.00)
11 - Alan Igglesdon (3 tests - 6 wickets at 54.83)
Edit : Cowdrey as captain, Blakey as wicket keeper, McCague and Mahmood opening the bowling and Cowdrey offering the 5th bowling option.
Also considered were
Slack (3 tests - 81 runs at 13.50)
Gallian (3 tests - 74 runs at 12.33)
Afzaal (3 tests - 83 runs at 16.60)
Fairbrother (10 tests - 219 runs at 15.64)
Ramprakash (52 tests - 2350 at 27.32) - Mainly because he had the talent to average 45 plus at test level
Aftab Habib (2 tests - 27 runs at 8.66)
Hick (65 tests - 3383 at 31.32) - Again, like Ramps he under acheived
Jones (34 tests - 1172 runs at 23.91 / 128 ct 5 st)
Hamilton (1 test - 0 runs / 0 wickets)
Lewis (32 tests - 1105 runs at 23.02 / 93 wickets at 37.52) - Should have been a world class all-rounder.
A Hollioake (4 tests - 65 runs at 10.83 / 2 wickets at 33.50)
B Hollioake (2 tests - 44 runs at 11.00 / 4 wickets at 49.75)
Croft (21 tests - 49 wickets at 37.24)
Illingworth (9 tests - 19 wickets at 32.36)
Salisbury (15 tests - 20 wickets at 76.95)
Giles (54 tests - 143 wickets at 40.60) - Never looked like taking wickets, even when he was taking wickets.
Greg Thomas (5 tests - 10 wickets at 50.39)
Jarvis (9 tests - 21 wickets at 45.95)
Ormond (2 tests - 2 wickets at 92.50)
Patel (2 tests - 1 wicket at 180.00)
Radford (3 tests - 4 wickets at 87.75)
I challenge anyone, English or not to find a team that wouldn't comfortably beat my worst XI.
-
Devon Smith
Xavier Marshall
Imran Tahir
-
He was a very good cricketer PV SImmonds in the LAncashire league a top pro
-
Let's see what the Kiwi's can bring to the party:-

-
Didn't Bill Athey get a ton in Australia?
Chris Matthews a poor mans Brucie Reid!

Liam Plunkett should be somewhere near that team
-
Suruj Ragoonath
Leon Garrick
Daren Ganga (captain)
Runako Morton
Keith Arthurton
Lincoln Roberts
David Williams (wk)
Rawle Lewis
Adam Sanford
Colin Stuart
Patterson Thompson
A West Indies eleven
Bruce Reid ah the 9 ft giant
-
At least let his career finish first
Haha ok i will wait a few more months or matches, whichever happens first ;)
-
Mark Illott
Steve Watkin
Neil Mallender
Brad Williams
Jason Krezja.
Most Kiwis
Lee Germon?
-
Apart from Vettori, McCullum, Taylor and Williamson, the rest of the Kiwi team seems to be a bunch of guys not big enough to play rugby so they get made to play Cricket!
-
Stuart Broad
-
Stuart Broad
While we're at it, Tim Bresnan
-
Mark Illott
Steve Watkin
Neil Mallender
Brad Williams
Jason Krezja.
Most Kiwis
Lee Germon?
Wasn't Lee Germon the guy who captained NZ in his first test. They had to play him as a batter, as they already had a better keeper or something like that.
Mallender use to win games at Headingley. England went through a phase of playing a specialist Trundler on greentops in an attempt to win test matches. I think Windies/Pakistan came a cropper, or that might of been Pringle.
Ronnie Irani - that's somebody who couldn't make the grade.
-
Mike Watkinson bowling off-spin. Then again he did save a test match with the bat at Trent Bridge - ruled out.
David Capel?
-
Tim Ambrose and Geraint Jones weren't really up to scratch as keepers. Especially at a time when Read and Foster were both better options. Although, the same could of been said of Matt Prior, but he's been very impressive in his work ethic regarding improving his keeping.
-
Jason Krezja is an all-time great compared to Michael Beer
-
Mohammad Sami lol
-
i refer people back to Mick Lewis as a one day bowler!
i actually think the west indies team that lost to bangladesh in 2009 could be the worst 11 ever fielded
richards
phillips
dowlin
ryan hinds
floyd riefer
d bernard
sammy (decent)
chadwick walton
r austin
nikita miller
tino best (decent)
-
Xavier Doherty
-
Let's get a team together:-
Tim Curtis
Leidenburg
Chris Adams
Gavin Hamilton
Kamran Akmal
David Capel
Adam Hollioake (c)
Ian Salisbury
Mick Lewis
Jimmy Ormond
Xahvier Doherty
-
Andy Lloyd was worse than Curtis
-
Doherty is the worst I have ever seen reds
No room there for lambert or latherwell
Curtis can not be named he used df
-
Who was the idiot who used to bowl in a hat for Australia
Greg ?
-
Lathwell did alright, chucked in very young (Gooch dropped himself down the order - despite playing amazing knocks in the series) against a fine, fine attack. Just shot mentally by it all.
-
Ritchie the racist, Dave?
-
surely bryce mcgain is a far worse spinner than doherty!
-
Andy Lloyd was worse than Curtis
no he wasn't. He made a couple of decent scores prior to being hit by a Marshall Bouncer. Curtis never looked up to the job from ball one, as good a servant as he was in the county game.
-
Nope I have seen Mcgain play for Victoria he took a 5 for
Seen Doherty and he looks like a boy who told his mum he was going for a loaf of bread.
Nope not Richie can not remember his name he was a off spinner
-
Matthews?
McGain was a solid FC bowler.
-
he was probably a better bowler but his test record is something to behold
18 overs 2 maidens 0-149
-
Greg Matthews was the offie. He was rubbish but could bat. Scored a test hundred against England, which rules him out.
-
That him mate
Greg Matthews but he wore a hat to bowl
Chris Martin just because he would still bat number 11 in any under 9
And unfortunately injury robbed the fastest white bowler in the last 40 years and possibly ever
-
I think if the player has:-
A test 50 or higher or averaging double figures
A bowling average below 50
You might as well rule them out unless they did something incredibly bad. They've showed some ability, however limited :-(
-

Chris Martin can bowl and field. Being rubbish at 1 thing you not supposed to do anyway doesn't count.
-
John Stephenson
Iain Greig...
Dick Blakey to keep wickets?
Captain would have to be Chris Cowdrey, the only specialist fielder to skipper England.
-

What if the qualifiying avergae came in the discipline he wasn't picked for?
e.g. Schofield has a test 50
-
Was amazed at that fact he batted at 11 for lancashire under 15
-
Jonathan bleeding Agnew
-
chris Kugglejin for new zealand
2 tests 7 runs at 1.75
1 wicket at 67
and his middle names is Mary
-
Actually cannot believe we have all forgotten Shane Muller - the man so bad his own star player sledged him!
-
SreeSanth, i dont care what his stats say the guy is one of the worst...
-
