I just received my new Salix stick.
I'm about to prepair it, but does it need oiling ? I reckon that they have used there bat wax on the bat.

When we knock in Salix bats we usually will put a coat of oil on them, just to be on the safe side, but you could get away with not doing it because they wax all their bats before sending them out to the shops, and that's one of the reasons why the finishing is so beautiful!
Out of interest, which one did you get? I use a Praestantia Performance and it's been, by far, the best bat I've ever had before...
-
Salix Falx grade one. haven't knocked it in yet, but it feels like pinging extremly well
-
It depends, I would recommend scuffing it! As beautiful as the finish is on Salix bats, it is in the end a bat to be used, so the looks aren't guaranteed to be as nice after a few innings! You're safe in terms of performance though! 8)
If you're going to scuff it, I would recommend scuffing it before you knock it in! No need to oil, but it does save quite a few complications with scuffing the bat before, as it's a dent-free surface, so is much easier to put an anti-scuff on! Also means that knocking in takes slightly less time, and you can use it in the nets with old balls sooner!
I think they are waxed with a special wax compound which allows linseed oil to penetrate that layer and get into the wood, so it would be best to oil it if you're not going to scuff it!
Hope this helps

Thanks mate, i think I will go with oil and knock in only. Maybe put some tape on the edges.
I use to put scuff sheet on my bats, so with this bat, i'll try without scuff sheet and see how it goes.

I'm looking at getting a custom made bat made for next season (as I live in Perth I'll go visit the Bradbury factory), and I'm absolutely in love with the Salix Torque shape. Does anyone on here own one? If so, can they post a few pics, etc, and also give me a description of pick-up, weight, etc? I love the no concaving profile at the pack, and it also looks like it has thick edges and a reasonably high sweet spot.
-
I've got one will put some up later
-
sorry about quality but should give you idea
mine is 2lb 9 grade one
38mm edges
and i love it

Looks nice - interesting that it's slightly concave though - the Torques are usually convex. But maybe to get the weight down to 2.9, they needed to concave it slightly. From what I've seen, Torques are generally 2.10+
-
perhaps a little but since i have previously used ss bats this is by no means as concaved as they are
-
Cheers for that fromthehip, looks a beauty! Yeah Paul I saw your review of the Torque on YouTube and that is what's got me interested in that bat shape. Not a fan of concaving at all, although those pics show very minimal signs of it, which I could live with. You said for a 2.11 that it picked up well. I usually use 2.9 but if its a 2.10 that is well balances and picks up nicely then I'd go with it.

lovely bit of willow there !
-
I have a Salix Wasp and it is a very nice bat, I got it from Paul @ IJC And feels very responsive from the middle

Must mention this is the performance which is G2

"Must mention this is the performance which is G2"
it looks grade 1 to me ? ?? doesnt it have some knots ?
-
has one slight blemish just under the sticker on the edge. Here is the pic that Paul sent me when it was in his shop

looks lovely i dont mind a blemish! althought that POD Grade 1 is a bit dreamy !
-
I was looking at that one also. Paul gave me the advice that he thought the wasp tapped up better than the Pod, It is very unlike a shop to offer the cheaper bat which is why I give Paul a good review on his service.
-
i havent had a salix that didnt tap up well, but i agree you do get some exceptional ones! i have a dreamy Pod performance it has that "soft trampoline" feel !
-
This is my first bat with a flat face and I do not actually feel that different when using it.
-
I have a Pod Players which plays beautifully and it only just starting to get going. And same with a Strike Players. But also have a Preastantia grade 1 that is absolutely crazy responsive!! My admiration for the performance increases the more I use one!!

When I was at their workshop picking out these bats, there were the odd one or two that didn't tap up amazingly well - still good but not exceptional - the Torques, I think, were very slightly harder pressed. But generally speaking, they are one of the most consistent brands out there in terms of performance and, of course, the ones we left with were the ones I was most impressed with...
Glad you're enjoying the bat, Matt - those Wasps really are impressive in my opinion, especially given the price compared to the other bats in the range...

I have to agree with you about the Torque pressing, its a realy Jekyll and Hyde bat when it comes to rebound and pick-up. To be honest I wasn't a big fan of the pick-up when swinging it around at home and rebound was good but nothing better than what I already have, it has had some knocking in now and used it in the nets on Saturday, completely different bat, picked-up better than it felt originally and impact with ball felt really really good, would recommend the torque to anyone thinking about it but be mindful that it does need some TLC before you use it, not too much work but work nonetheless
P.s. everything gets compared to my RPC and Torque matched it in nets if not better, which is a very very very big statement coming from me :)

sounds like a couple of very special bats !

RPC is very special to me, I have a bad habbit of giving away my gear to the one I love as friends, so believe it or not I gave it to a friend who I think will score hundreds of runs with it this season, it hurts a lot and I miss it already.
Salix is going to be a monster i feel so I am really looking forward to it, Salix is the reason I was able to let go of RPC and partly because I have an LE on the way as well ;)

I think they give the bats a bit of character - they also make them easier to identify if some light fingered person 'borrows' them...
Now there's an idea - a good reason for taking pics of your bat(s).

i totally agree, i can usually pick out my bats from the other bits of rubbish though, mine are the ones that are looked after ! ;-)

Mine tend to look 'as new' due to lack of contact with the ball... :(

I picked up a Falx Performance over the winter, very pleased indeed with it. Winter nets have started to open it up nicely, and it was a pretty good performer to begin with! Looks pretty good too, as you can see from my previous post:

Nice grains with a distinctive bit of colour. Best finished bat I've had by miles too.
