Title: New Zealand Cricket and Ross Taylor
Post by: Buzz on December 08, 2012, 08:56:43 AM
has anyone else been following what has happened to Ross Taylor?

in Sri Lanka the coach tells him he is a (No Swearing Please) skipper so he goes out and play one of the most astonishing games as captain, scoring 142 and 75 with the kiwis winning, then gets dumped as captain in return. if cook had played like that his reception would be slightly different!

the coach just wants his mate brendon as captain.

a total disgrace that anyone could be treated like that.

Here here Buzz, one of the better International captains, and their only world class batsman!

My view was that it would make them easier to beat next summer if he wasn't there!

I read somewhere they want to reduce his workload and have split captains for each of the forms ala Eng, Aus, SA etc. but Taylor said I want to do all three or none at all. So subsequently his hand was forced. Shambles all round

any bets on him jacking in international cricket for a while and taking up a well paid county stint come t20 specialist?

Yeah I read he was removed after refusing to accept split captaincy. The bosses felt he hasn't been a great one day captain, but wanted to keep him as test captain, he refused so they replaced him in all 3 formats.

Now he's on a break from cricket, hopefully his break lasts long enough to see him miss the England games, he's class.

Could be a great signing for a county side!

But also a massive shame for New Zealand cricket, I think the England vs New Zealand series would be far better to watch if he was playing.

New Zealand have few enough players of even aproaching Test class (I make four - Taylor, Vettori, McCullum as a keeper batsman but not as a front line batsman and Martin) without giving arguably their very best away.

Bracewell looks like a proper cricketer and hopefully Jesse Ryder starts making some friends with NZC or it could be very one sided series. McCullum's appointment surprises me as I thought Williamson would've been a fresh start.

Jesse Ryder is a much better bat than Brendan McCullum. Unfortunately he can't seem to behave himself. Without him and Taylor NZs middle order looks very weak

you'll notice I only referenced McCullum on the proviso that he play as a keeper...

He hasn't kept for a while and certainly won't now he's captain. NZ need a strong leader and quickly, good chance for McCullum to be that man. His first job is to get the best eleven players all available for selection because they don't have a huge amount of depth. I suppose with S.A next they have absolutely nothing to lose

Self respect?

Their Test status?

Obviously I'm only kidding, but with Vettori, Taylor and Ryder missing, there could be some serious records set by the Yarpies!

Could SA even afford to rest a few? Kallis will surely get a rest after limping through the last test and De villiers, Amla, Steyn, Morkel have all had huge workloads this year.

I think if they were worried about self respect they would have managed this captaincy decision better

Sacking their best player as captain because he wanted more responsibility reeks of foul play

Smart money will be on a S.A clean sweep for sure

wierd how Harry Potter was allowed almost unlimited responsibility immediately beforehand...

it is the new coach, I think he may not be all that.

the kiwis were doing ok under Taylor and wright, but the new guy comes in and the results plummet.

you have to support the skipper.

at the very least, if he is also your best player, you need to keep him a little bit on side...

Have to admit that I've never heard of this Hesson character before.

You'd think that Ross Taylor might have the support of a few of the other players

they are probably worried about going the same way - lets face it, there is very little money in New Zealand cricket without an international contract and very little job security...

I am from New Zealand and what I can see from this is Hesson the coach and his relationship with Brendon McCullum as Hesson was the former Otago coach the province in which Brendon McCullum plays for in NZ.He (Hesson ) comes in with very little experience in international cricket only coaching Kenya and decides to change things ie captain and wants to split captancy which as mentioned before Taylor does not want and is understandable he is NZ best player but my problem is not this idea its the way its been covered by NZ cricket and Hesson are not telling the truth , Taylor is upfront about it coming onto to Radio sport and telling how he expected to be cut by hesson in the first 12 moths of hesson taking the role coaching of NZ while hesson comes out saying it was not my idea to cut taylor .So what needs to be done Hesson and Taylor need to get over this and talk over the captaincy role for NZ going forward  if they talk it over Taylor will become captain in all 3 forms for NZ and McCullum vice although that seems a long way away for NZ . I dont think Hesson will last very long in the coaches role .
