Title: Greatest ever T20 side
Post by: SOULMAN1012 on December 09, 2012, 09:32:06 PM
Just been watching a bit of the big bash today and got me thinking, what would be the greatest T20 side if our could pick 11 players from any country????

Sorry for any spelling errors in names (tried to not oick any Sri Lankan
Mine is

Chris Gayle
Marcus Trescothick
KP
Ricky Pointing
Luke Wright
AB Devillers
Kieron Pollard
Shane Warne
Brett Lee
Alphonso Thomas
Murilia

That is what i have just come up with, i may have missed some players but i reckon that side would win 90% plus of games

Narine? Warne's lost abit of his x factor. Shane watson definitely, malinga over lee if he's up to it and david warner has shined in domestic t20, tough to call!

sorry if there is already a list and teams can be past or present players, when he was playing warn would have walked into anyside in any format.  Didnt really think Kallis was as good in T20 as other formats and i woule personally thave Tres over warner as both similar players

Gilchrist should have found his way in i must admit

Anyway hopfully a thread that will get the grey matter working ready for monday and another week closer to the new season :D

If you are picking in their pomp, there's so many to choose from and in the end it will more than likely be personal preference.  It's a shame that this format didn't come round a bit sooner as I would have loved to have seen the likes of Michael Bevan and Darren Lehmann playing this when they were at the top of their game.

I wouldn't even know where to start to pick a team...

An all time team is an interesting ask.  I think possibly the following:
Adam Gilchrist
Chris Gayle
Tillakeratne Dilshan
Viv Richards
Garry Sobers
Imran Khan
Ian Botham
Wasim Akram
Michael Holding
Waqar Younis
Shane Warne

better than Wasim and Waqar?  I'm not sure about that - and his Montyesque fielding counted against him as well for me.

Interesting that noone has named Brian Lara or Javed Miandad in heir sides.  Lara is an odd one - a great player, but I'm not sure his style would have worked in the shortest form, whereas Miandad was a master at manipulating the field who might have fitted well into the game...

Or Tendulkar, Ganguly, Jayasuria, Kalu, Aravinda Da Silva. All would've flourished in modern t20

I remember watching vids etc and his Yorkers were unreal coming from 12ft high and rarely missing

I could hide him at fine leg

Just watched a documentry on sky that i recorded on Don Bradman, i may have to stick him in the side with a modern day bat. I reckon that would have been a great site to see. If he could avg 99 with what they used then, what would he avg now a days!

Not so sure about Da Silva.  He's a bit like Inzamam and Jayasuriya.  He'll get you runs but always the potential for a run-out.

Ganguly has struggled with his strike rate in t20 cricket but he is a bit old!

Hafeez
Watson
McCullum
Morgan
Kohli
Samuels
Pollard

he can pick the ball out of the high, hard to reach places when Gilbert Jessop starts peppering the top tier of Eden gardens... ;)

Grace would have the umpires on his side so he'd be the most important inclusion!!

I think one player who probably won't make a list of 'the greats' but would have shone in T20 had he been around to play in it would have been Lance Klusener
