Title: My Red Ink
Post by: alba caerulea on December 10, 2012, 01:42:28 PM
I put a post in Items Wanted a couple of months back for a higher middled bat.

Choosing from all the offers was difficult but I went with John from Red Ink. I was very impressed with his work I had seen on the forum and his were one of the few smaller bat-makers whose stickers I really liked. He offered me a custom shaped bat for a very reasonable price. I went for a grade 2 in the end which I am already beginning to question as I think I will be keeping this bat for a long while - not my wisest decision in retrospect!

John was very patient as I was away from home alot after the intial contact and very poor with comms! He gave me a choice of some clefts via a picture. Shape wise, we settled on something based on the M&H Amplus, after responses from a few people on here that it was one of the better highish middled bats

This bat weighs a fraction over 2.11 with its grip, stickers, hammer edge and toe-guard

Apologies for the quality of the pictures but they do their intended job

This bats weighs almost the same as my Blank Bat ( http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=15725.0 ) but the pick up is a whole lot better as you would expect. This bat is very well made and the finishing is top drawer. I have to say I am very happy with the bat and the service as a whole. I found John enthusiastic without being pushy which was perfect for someone as slack with comunication as myself! I have no hesitation in recommending him to someone looking for a new bat. He also refurbed my BB which came back looking brand new, again the finishing was exceptional and I don't think I need to look any further than him for my refurbs in future

thanks for the feedback James. glad you are happy with the bat.  your communication wasnt that bad! i think people tend to forget most of us have lives off of this forum so sometimes its not easy to reply straight away. enjoy the knocking in and keep me posted on how she goes!

Gutted that Bude got relegated always a lovely ground up there, but glad we wont be going to the most souless place in Cornwall next year. I also envy you Ladock guys playing at Boconnoc next year, best teas in the land!

The most bizarre ground you will ever play at, hidden in the middle of nowhere and its a rectangle shape ground. fielding at cover on one side you are saving one on the boundary!

Good teas but I eat well every day. For my cricket I would actually like to bat on something that bounces above knee high. As a batsman I'm glad they went down, and the same goes for Bugle, the ball won't be getting high at either

Tintagel was very nice when we went there this year in a Village Cup game, racked up about 280 I think and skittled them

Yeah decent track and outfield was lightening. I imagine it can be quite chilly if you play them in April and its windy though so take a jumper!

Bizarre in that ive nearly ran a 5 there and hit a six that hasn't got over waist height, at the same ground.

That would be my perfect profile on a bat, very good for the bouncy wickets here in Perth. The number of grains on that are very ample for a G2, reasonably straight, I'd say the slight discolouring would be why it was not rated a G1? Either way, looks a belter and hopefully you score bootloads of runs with it!!

Had a good net session today against the bowling machine and very impressed with this bat. First time i've really used it so I didn't go mad but even push shots were travelling

Very good performance and the pick up was excellent as expected, Good work John!

I'm not sure nearly is good enough lol. You either have lighting reactions or its not quite opened up fully yet lol

This is fully knocked in and flying now, handed out some treatment today at nets

Very nice indeed on the pull, picks up like a feather. Very happy I listened to the advice and went for this shape and John has done an excellent job in pulling it off
