Seeing as Buzz is asking for pictures of new bats, I thought I'd put up a few pictures of the results of my visit to IJC on Friday. I also purchased a V1200 bag, of which I'll try and review later in the week

The bat weighs in at 2.9lbs, although the pick up on it is between 2.7 and 2.8. Edges measure 40mm, with the spine height about 50mm. There are a few blemishes on it, but nothing that should take away from the performance of the bat, especially as it taps up beautifully on the mallet.

Looks nice but think they should make the stickers in the scoops tie in a bit better as cheapens the overall look....the old ones used to be painted :(
-
I forgot to add in needs a little more knocking in, which makes the ping even more impressive!

I'm inclined to agree with you on that Tom, but as long as it goes well I'll let GN off!
-
GN have done the retro bats really well. I got the scoop and would love a Dynadrive. The stickers could have been done better though agreed.

I'm by no means a batsman as I've averaged between 18 and 25 for the last few seasons but wondering why we all bother buying top bats like this. We all do it, myself included. Looking at Charlie's scores for the season was it worth the outlay when a 10 quid sports direct Kashmir bat would have scored the same number of runs. In no way a complaint, just a query.

It's all about looking good getting out...

I think this bat will make all the difference next season Mr Death...!

I had a crap season last season true (as admitted elsewhere on this forum), buts that was more down to me making changes to my technique and getting zero consistency due to the weather, not too sure what that has to do with me buying kit tho?
-
I am thinking about removing the stickers and painting the scoops, true retro style...
-
Top idea. The chequered band of stickers are a big miss too.

This is one of the most bizarre comments I have ever seen on this forum. For so many reasons... Charlie, you've done well to keep a cool head after reading this - I certainly wouldn't have done!

The fact that more time has been spent commenting on these stickers than any other feature of the Dynadrive on here worries me a little. Yes, they're not the most perfectly applied bat stickers in the world, but let's face it, not that many bat stickers are. I don't understand why this keeps getting mentioned as the main talking point every time the Dynadrive comes up...

Haha!!! Why buy a car when you can save yaself a few quid and get a bike....or a skateboard! Will still get you from A to B at a fraction of the cost :)
-
The stickers on my own Dynadrive are immaculate, but I agree there are some ropey ones out there
-
Are the scoops in all dynadrives the exact same length and depth? so the scoop in 2.11 vs 2.9 vs 2.14 are they all exactly the same?
-
No issues with mine either.

This is where the retro thing becomes hardest. Due to the way they are designed to produce an emotional response, any deviation from the original that doesn't justify itself causes concern. Oddly sized scoops are less obvious when painted, but when standard sized stickers are applied become very obvious. Likewise with the new V12, they haven't pretended it is truly retro...

Cheers Paul, I'm not overly fussed I know that I'm a lot better than my scores from last season suggest as do my teammates. I felt in a lot better nick towards the end of the season, and have gone well so far in the odd net that I have had in the off season. I've got some one 2 one coaching in the new year which should iron out a few other discrepancies in my game. If I'm fair I probably put too much pressure on myself last season considering it was only my second season back playing after a number of years out of the game.

I think this is where Slazenger and GN have been quite clever though, both the V12 and the Dynadrive were around when I was a teenager, and were really desirable bats due to the pros using them back then. By re-releasing them 20 years on they've effectively tapped into the market of people who saw their school day heroes using them. Obviously with the advances in the game the bats aren't the same, but the name still carries the same magic.

Being someone who had both a V12 and a Dynadrive and the club bag had the Scoop, I got the idea behind the release, but the delivery of the V12 was very disappointing. It didn't have the shape which was what the V12 was all about, and the stickers are akin to the V Classic. However lovely the V12 is, it isn't a V12 for me (and neither is the V1200 a V1200!).
Both the Scoop and the Dynadrive are much more what they were supposed to be (in that they are essentially the classic bats made using modern techniques), even if GN have gone for stickers rather than paint....

I know what you mean about the V12 Tim, I had one at school and was really excited when I saw they were re-releasing it, but disappointed with what I saw. However the one I saw at Paul's was a lovely bat and looks like an absolute gun, but in my eyes it's not a V12!

All Emperors need lovely clothes, realistically for most people branding is key. Whatever people say!
