Title: Your Best Bat?
Post by: Cover_Drive on December 18, 2012, 06:44:37 AM
Inspired by Dave's Laver & Wood topic.

Whilst ALL of us have more than one bat, but which bat was ultimately your best one? Doesn't have to be one which scored you most runs but one which overall had been your best bat till date. Bat with which you felt most confident. Bat which you hold and say, "this is immaculate stick"

So I will begin, for me it is, Screaming Cat Series 1 (replacing Gray Nicolls Powerbow 3 Star from 2009)

Why is it Screaming Cat Series 1? Because everything of this seem to be quintessential. The shape is of perfect shape, profile is brilliant, ping is unassailable and so on.

Picture of the bat;

It would be great if profile pictures can be shared along the description.

Cheers

Don't have a picture but a 2006 GM Purist 808, 2lb 10, 2 grips, 11 dead straight, even grains. Perfect

Dave laver PB was up there, but it was never actually mine. So, a very very close second was my old fusion g1 which eventually gave up on me :(

Don't have a picture but it was my old 2lb 10oz Hunts County Insignia 5 Crown. Lovely bat until it split from the toe up the blade :(

For me it has to be this one - back in the days when I could still wield such a mighty weapon. My word it could hit the ball a long way.

GM Purist Original from about ten years back for me. Only lasted about 18mths before breaking horribly but the pick up and performance was pretty much perfection in my opinion.

Best bat I've owned is probably the 1st one I made, my Wright Cricket thunderstick although I may rename it to boomstick, as it goes boom and the ball goes flying!  Although for bats I've bought, my GN Nitro Extreme is the best.  3lb of sheer, unadulterated violence dispatching the ball to all parts (although the user is often to blame for the failures!)

I don't have pictures but I'd have to say My old Symonds Tusker or Newbery TT SPS. I've not had my hattori long but it's looking like this could overtake the other 2

I think the best I've had has been my old B52XL - the grains were a bit all over the shop but it went well from day one and just kept getting better.  There are a few bits of it missing now though...

Match bat for next year is a hot competition.  Mt new Tempo is the current favourite, though there are a few other contenders waiting to stake a claim in the nets!

Do you still have your Symonds Tusker? If so, a few pics wouldn't go a miss, whatever the condition! One of my favourite bats of all time!

Oops! Just re-read what you said! Lol! Sorry! I got over-excited at seeing a Tusker again!

They still make them in Oz for around $400. The one I used was an old club bat that I got my first 50 with so I bought it off the club for £20 in 1995

My best bat is now a wreck! It lasted just over a season but ever since any bat I buy has to be a replica of it! No one has managed to get it perfect yet though. Pretty soon I will be putting the skills to good use to see if I can get a perfect replica made up!

sadly I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect replica!

Best bat used in games has been the 2012 Match bat, Kookaburra Kahuna 1000. My new training bat however (that I am testing out for 2013's Match bat) is even better by miles, and the kookaburra pinged like a dream!

Thank you mate! I had always thought that website looked a bit iffy though? Lots of spelling mistakes, not updated in ages etc....do you know if it's on the level or not?

No idea to be honest and that is the first time I have heard Symonds being made again

Pedals, if you can a get a contact at Robinsons you might get a result.

They were making them a couple of years ago and selling them thru Quantum Cricket. I had one and it was pretty good. I might be interested myself to be honest.

Cheers Fattus, I'll have a snoop about....Robinsons have a pretty good rep I think so maybe that would be the place to go! I'll keep you informed!  ;)

For me, it's a close call between my GN Nitro 5 star and Talisman Perfect storm I got from Roco. It's a long handle/ short blade jobby. 20 odd grains crazy ping.

Hoping I can get my Hattori to open up too, not feeli g it at the moment

Had loads of bats over the years slazenger and GM when i was a lad and then made for me by local bat makers chrlie french (which was terrible), kippax, warrior x2 including a huge think 3lb+ railroad sleeper with massive edges but got a GN legend when they were first released a couple of seasons ago, it just pings off the middle (although cant believe the 2013 price!).

Have just removed a anti scuff and edge tape, given her a little sand down and oil ready for reapplying a face before the season starts.
