Hi.
I am almost certainly going to buy a Masuri Wicket Keeping Helmet soon.
I need a new batting helmet too.
Will the Masuri WK helmet be suitable for batting in too? Would save me having to buy 2 helmets.
Have any of you done this and how have you found it? As the differences I imagine with peak and back are quite subtle?
Ta.

I don't understand if you need to bat in one as well you wouldn't get a normal masuri and use that for keeping and batting personally
-
May well be worth a read....

The grill isn't any different, at least, my Masuri keeping lid isn't, and i've batted in it before with no problems.

I kept in my Ayrtek (even got sledged by the batsman for it) One helmet two uses
-
So did Sangakkara, Luke Sutton and Johnny Bairstow :)
increased vision from feedback apparently from the peak shape
-
Not kept in my Ayrtek yet, still getting used to the fit, but i'm sure it would work very well

Thank you. That was most useful. Will definately get one to double up as both my keeping and batting lid.

My question about this one would be that if the peak length is reduced, how does that affect the strength of the peak and specifically, its ability to stop the ball forcing between the peak and grill when batting?

Mate i keep with the masuri wicketkeepers helmet and also bat in it with no problems, i think the shortened peak also helps when batting too!
-
I keep in it a lot as I mostly stand up, and only bat in a lid occasionally so just use a keeping helmet for both. Depends how much you bat in it I suppose but I don't see it as an issue and also can't be arsed carrying two around
-
Dont they have a cut out on the back of the helmet, which would mean that if you turn your back and head on the delivery you could get a nice hit on the back of the head

Wen we had Sangakkara wearing the helmet he wanted it sweeping lower to cover more of his neck not less of it for the exact reason mentioned above.
-
Why would you turn your back on a ball?
-
I think what Ayrtek and possibly Sangakara meant was the moment when you'd sighted the ball but had to take the evasive action and then you don't know where its gone.
I'm sure we all do it sub conciously on occasions but doubt whether anyone in their right mind would turn their back on the ball unless fielding close in.
We are always thinking watch the ball aren't we.
Still reckon the Ayrtek is the best lid to keep in (if I have to wear a lid) :)

Of course you can bat in one. No major difference, just a shortened peak. Neck cut out doesn't effect batting. Get one of these, it'll last you years
-
you should get it and then get this as well,

then just change the shell for batting and keeping
-
What does this helmet weigh? Is it a steel grille?
-
After starting this thread and reading everyone's views, I bought a Masuri WK Helmet.
Used it all season for keeping and batting.
It's superb for both jobs. Comfortable. The shorter peak and scooped back help when keeping, and do not affect batting at all.
The grille is steel.
Highly recommended.
Much better than those ghastly Aero Face Masks - bought one last year, used it for 5 minutes and got rid of it!
