After watching cricket am last year and that shot at the pro's there was a lad on it who could bowl decently with both hands, so in a game could you bowl with both hands? As in bowl left arm spin to a right handed batter but then switch to right arm spin to a left handed batter?
-
as long as you told the umpire (who in turn would tell the batsmen) you are changing then yeah. Don't see why not. I think that's the issue currently. The fact a bowler has to tell the batsmen what he is doing BUT the batsmen changing hands/feet means the field etc is all negated as it's usually set to a right hander/left hander etc. I'm all for switch hits etc but I personally think changing from left to right handed should be banned.. unless you choose to do it BEFORE the bowler runs in and tell the umpire etc.. same as a bowler has too.. Means the bowler can change from over to around etc and the field can move..
The last bit is just my opinion though.

Yeah, you can, as long as you clearly explain to the umpire. I did it several years ago. Right arm medium then switched to left arm spin.

what about mid over?

again, you'd need to tell the umpire who would tell the batsmen. (I think/would assume). Just like suddenly deciding to go around the wicket.. you have to tell the umpire who then tells the batsmen etc.

Guy at our club has learned to bowl passable left arm spin over the last few seasons. Last year he took a wickets with both right arm seam and left arm doin in the same over the cheeky monkey. Obviously he did inform the umpire :)

Hate to bat against someone who not only varied their arm but also their bowling style completely.

That's exactly what I did. Normally a right arm very medium, 2 overs for 22 third over left arm spin wicket maiden. Poor fella batting, he was on 94 at the time.

haha, gutted! Do you feel guilty for people if they get out late 80's/90's?? Generally I tend too (still try and get them out) but always feel a bit crap about it. I always end up thinking, I'd rather have got the other lad out as 100's are not regular things for us mere mortals so it would make their season.
Closest I come to it was 89* when I opened in the last sunday game of 2012 league. We'd messed around giving everyone 4 overs so they scored 300 odd and when we got to the last man I just said 'stay in and I'll get my ton within 12 balls'.. he lasted 2 balls before trying to slog it... I wasn't happy with him, although I suppose I can only blame myself as I was batting slowly and could have taken more risks earlier but considering the other end was regularly falling it didn't seem worth it.. gutted though.

Nah, not really. I'm not much more than a fill in bowler so my wickets are rarer than 100s

Think it depends on the situation. If its a decent lad who has played well I don't begrudge them making it to 3 figures. One friendly I played a few years back for a mates side we were getting destroyed by a far better team. The oppo skip was a cocky guy around 20 and was taking the attack to pieces, giving it mouth as he did and asking where he should hit his next boundary. I'm generally fairly quiet on the pitch but my celebrations having bowled him for 99 were anything but :D

Yeah that's fair enough. I have and will never understand the types to lord it over people like that. Ok, so your better than the guys bowling at you, no need to rub it in. In fact if you are that good you should be helping them when your at the non strikers end by telling them what they are doing wrong! My personal opinion is that when I get to 100 in a friendly game I'll retire and come back in at the end if needed. Friendlies are supposed to be just that, a friendly and you want all 22 players to do something. Just my opinion though, league games are different as you bat to win but friendlies.. pfft, tbh I barely care about who wins and loses. I want one team to score 250 all out off 44.5 overs and the second team to score either 249 -9 off 44.5 overs OR 251-9 of 44.5 overs (depending if I want to win or not :) )

i love getting wickets when they are in 80's/90's they probably got a few runs from my bowling so might aswell make them feel like crap

It's been done in a Test match! In the late 70s Graham Gooch was bowling in a game that was heading for a draw and he decided to impersonate other bowlers. As part of this, he switched to bowling left arm.

I think that's an excellent point about switching hands to bat the other way round!

I reckon there is a rule change around the corner on this one. They will probably allow a "switch" hit ie, hands crossed but if a batsman goes from say left handed to right (like warner) it will/should be deemed a no-ball.

if its a no ball id do it every ball get an extra ball and 1 run?
but am sure u mean a dead ball lol

A guy in our side, our opening bowler, has a 'trick' ball he uses occasionally in friendlies. He's a right armer and runs in normally but for this special ball he doesn't swap the ball into his right hand in his run up. As his leading arm comes down he releases the ball from that hand. So not only does he bowl with his wrong hand but also off the wrong foot too. He's very accurate with it but it's never taken a wicket! Not sure what he'd do if it did get someone out though....!

Yes, wrote that bit without thinking. I suppose we all allowed to write something dumb every once in a while. Bit of a clanger.....

I assume that gets no balled?

He only does it in friendlies so a blind eye is turned to it, at least it has been so far! I'm sure if he took a wicket with it then it would be though....he's not the type to claim it. Just think it's a pretty good skill to have... :)

I've bowled that ball loads of times in the nets Luke, never a game though.
My 'trick' ball in matches is to run in and bowl without my front arm

We should be encouraging innovation in the game. Switch hitting for batsmen should be allowed, but leg and off stump should be as in his normal stance. Also, a bowler doesn't have to tell the batsman he's going to bowl a slower ball or a wrong un!
