Ok, so after my missus brought me some tools off peplow for my birthday this year (I promised her that was all the tools I needed....oops!!) and then me spending quite a few more £££ on sanders, benches, vices etc....I brought some clefts from Matt at H4L (brilliant customer service and products!!) and gave it ago....I've made 6 so far (3 adults and 3 junior bats) and this is number 6.....a custom 2lbs 6oz size 5.5....made for a Devon u/15 start batsmen....
I've decided on concentrate on making the fully customised junior bats as to me they are more rewarding with the work needed.....
Long way to go to til perfect but happy with the progress from bat 1 to bat 6.
Please be gentle........ :(

Awesome stuff as always buddy!!

Dont think you can fault the podshaving from the pictures, think you could make some lovely bats if you got your hands on some top clefts. What grade cleft is this if you dont mind me asking ?
-
great work mate. bat looks really good from the pics
-
Cheers Al....next up is a size 3 for DK's boy!
thedevil - Cheers fella...the cleft is a G1 from Matt @ H4L....I tried a G2 and found it harder to work with but in all honesty I think it's becuase my too;s need sharpened!
sgcricket - Thanks mate, when I can sort using my travisher out then concaving may improve the shape more!
-
Nice work there , how do you finish them by the way? :). Also, for the junior sizes are you just chopping down a full length cleft?
-
Cheers bud...after sanding with several grades I polish with a small amount of wax that was recommended on the forum, I'll get name from tub in morning and post it. For the junior bats I get size 6 clefts from Matt and then trim it down to size (width, length, handle the lot) and then get down to shaping.

Ah right , didn't realise he did smaller clefts. Was it brixwax by any chance? (fine if you can't remember now).

Nice work there buddy. What a fitting tribute to the Bradmanesque sticker you have applied !. Is it Lord Sheraton Beeswax polish you are using ?.
-
Cheers mate....the plan was to have three badges...G1 - The Don G2 - Beefy and Junior - Lil Master
in the end went with just The Don
here is the badge -

Good stuff mate. Let me know if you need anything, I'm always happy to help! Although it looks like your on the right track.

A round bottom plane Ryan ;)
-
The handle or the grip looks a bit different at the base . What tool did you use to shape the shoulders please ?.
-
I'm pretty sure it is The Lord Sheraton wax I use mate....I'm yet to master the spokeshave so I use the drawknife for everything and then use the sander to finish the shoulders
-
Please be gentle........ :(
No need for that mate, sticks look fantastic :)

Checked today and I do have one spare, pm me and I'll sort it out for you. :D

Pretty impressive mate. The only thing I'm concerned about is your use of Bradman's likeness and name on your stickering. I'm pretty sure there's something in place to protect that (some searching yielded this, which specifically mentiones protection of use of the term 'the Don' - http://www.allens.com.au/pubs/ip/ipnov00a.htm). I'm sure you came up with it as a tribute, but I'd hate to hear of anyone getting hit with a lawsuit for something like that.
Other than that, the more traditional look to the bats look great.
-
Cheers bud, I looked online for trademarks but didn't see any registered under The Don or Iconic but that article says otherwise....I'm not selling the bats as such so not sure if it applies but will change The Don I think just in case......shames cos like you said it was created as testimony to the great man!!
-
If I offloaded some pennies on the internet and a bat like that turned up I'd be delighted. Great work! I like the stickering too, nice and subtle....love it!
-
Thanks mate! I wanted the stickering to be basic and classy....unfortunately it looks like I'll need a new bat name though!!
-
As long as you keep the same style of sticker I think you're on to a winner! Show off the wood man! Let it speak! hahaha!! :D
-
love the profile of that first g1 you made for yourself
-
Cracking effort mate. Love the stickers too.
