Hi gents.
Just wanting peoples 'real world' thoughts on different spikes for pace bowlers? I have always used Asics spikes but considering trying any others if people feel they are decent/better than Asics.
I hit the deck really hard, always leave a big hole in the crease from my front foot even on really hard decks. This has resulted in my current asics having 4 spikes completely ripping out (thread and all). Happy to stick with Asics unless people really reccommend another brand over them. Cheers!

Not a bowler myself, but the opinions of some of my customers on the Nike and Adidas bowling shoes are that they can be quite 'clumpy' or 'bulky'
We don't stock Puma so i cant really give an opinion on them.
It also depends on whether you like high cut or the newer 'mid-cut' style that many manufacturers seem to be favouring.
Asics are the best shoes in my opinion.

I read this earlier in the year

Cheers mate that does help alot. Being an allrounder I always just use a normal cut shoe that I bat and bowl in.
Really thinking I should maybe have a pair for each though. Never tried the higher cut bowling shoes before so might have a look at them.

Interesting. Wonder if thats why Asics fast bowler shoes now say "work with the foot and can reduce the loads that contribute to stress fractures and other foot ailments". EDIT - yeah says Asics actually lol shouldnt skim read :P

They all seem to be moving away from high cut, which is probably in response to scientific research and the demand for as you say, an all rounder shoe.

How about getting some bespoke Caddick-style boots? They were the ones that people like Ambrose and Donald wore but have phased out, partly because of sponsorship.
-
I'm not a bowler personally, but my brother is and he has the Nike bowling boots and says that they give him great support around the ankles and feels very sterdy for bowling in. Also that they working well for feilding in as some bowling boots are a bit heavy for fielding in

This, I use these as a bowler and find they give brilliant support and are very comfortable.
Ideal for batting in too.
The model is the Flywire Opener II.

Maybe keep an eye out for the new stuff due to come out this year from New Balance. Dale Steyn is working with the company to develop boots for bowling in. Saw a video on you tube of his talking about his kit with Ian Healey.

When i was younger and quicker always used hitops. As I've got older it doesn't matter.

New Balance not in UK until 2014

Yer I saw that video to mate he was saying about removing the groves of the bottom of the boots , because these groves make the spikes seem shorter when landing
-
Cheers for the replies guys. Yeah I saw that thing with steyn and his NB shoes. Those old school custom made shoes would be great...if only I lived in the UK. Interesting to watch th cricket I see the base of Siddles Asics and they do in fact have the bottom removed and it is completely flat just like Steyn was talking about. Shame they dont make them like that and available in retail stores.
-
The Asics bowling shoe is fairly flat on the bottom

Cheers those are the ones I will most likely be going with. DO look to be flat dont have those annoying rubber dimples on them.

A guy at my club last year had always used high top shoes but get the speed menace I think. He's had a bad ankle and Achilles for a while and was worried about wearing the lower cut boot, but he actually preferred them to the higher cut boots he used to have!

thinking about buying asics gel advance 4, but im a pace bowler, will they offer much support?
-
Sorry I am coming in late here but I use Puma calibres and i do land fairly heavily so i would recommend them...never had a problem with these.....

Our best pace bowler uses them. I cringe every time i look at him running in, i wouldnt be able to bowl in them. They have two spikes in the heel that arent in line, so i always imagine there will be some s;lip when you plant your foot too.. I would certainly advise the likes of the 200 Not Outs as offering more support if you dont want a full bowling shoe.
