Im looking for a new bag for the 2013 season and i cant decide which bag to purchase. I know both of these bags are great, i would like some opinions, thanks.
-
Aero bag is brilliant, can't find fault in it.
The removable bags are a great touch, as are the compartments inside which can be removed if you prefer having one big 'hole' inside your bag to chuck all your stuff into.
-
Actually i would recommend against the tour...i got mine mid-season and just noticed yesterday that there is a massive rip on the top...does not stand up well either...i know i have lots of kit in there but thats why i got this tour bag as its massive but not designed well enough to actually stay standing with all that kit..
bat pocket is not padded and small, you can barely fit 1 bat, its not the width but the length that is barely long enough for a bat so if you have a bat cover you are in for a real struggle to fit the bat in there...
-
which tour?
-
Sorry I meant Newbery Tour :-[
-
Used my tour all last season and is fantastic big but manageable and suits me fine
-
no problem with my aero, def reccomend
-
AERO, has to be. Best bag in the world, ever - indeed, probably the single best bit of cricketing kit ever!
-
Please can someone (other than wicket keepers who are expempt) explain why there is a need to take the kitchen sink to matches? I seem to manage with a small duffle bag and have done for years!!
-
I totally agree! I bought a Tour bag, and instantly realise I hate it and donated it to the club, just too big to be managable. I like the idea of a smallish Wheelie bag!

Because we're not as great as you? ;)
Or because I tend to take my gear for the weekend, which includes two matches, coaching etc?

:o 8) :D
it is hard being me. With all this adulation I need to get some tendulkar style endorcements
Or because I tend to take my gear for the weekend, which includes two matches, coaching etc?
that is a reasonable enough excuse - although I would have a second bag with my sunday stuff in, but I can see some logic.
-
Same as manoramic, I pack it on a friday night for coaching, and 2 x matches.
Throw in various sets of whites, training wear. jeans etc for after and soon mounts up
make sure I always drive though so no issue with transport. Does annoy me when people who dont drive come with tanks for bags...
-
I just like to put all my stuff in so out of way in house as much as anything
It's either in my tour bag or my net/indoor bag so no need to hunt for stuff and keeps wife happy
-
im with buzz if i wasnt a keeper id have a small bag..
changing rooms are small enough with out people with massive bags!
love my newbery tour.. only down side is i wish it had bat pockets like the ayrtek rather than one big compartment

I agree with this point of view. I don't think you need a huge bag and even for a weekend, i don't understand why you wouldn't swap whites on the morning? Much smaller bag needed, more space in changing room and cars, and frankly, more than two bats for a match is indulgent ;)
-
Very interesting point this is, after years of lugging around a huge bag I am going to try to use a duffle this season and cut the kit I take to a game to the bare minimum. Pads, gloves, spikes, box, thighpads, lid, whites and a couple of bats (I often lend one out!) All in the name of trying to make me focus on the game and NOT on the kit I am using in it!
I've got decent kit, anyone who spends time on here will have, so knowing that, I am going to try and focus on the game itself. Might not make any difference but it's worth a try. Remove all distractions and focus!
.....I'll get my coat....... :D

I got the ayrtek bag for Xmas and it looks like it will be an awesome prezzie. I couldn't close my old bag now I've got a ayrtek helmet as well so it would have meant 2 bags.
My kit list:
1x set pads
1x gloves
2x bats (pretty much just because it has 2 bat pockets)
1x thigh pad (aero stripper so takes a bit more room)
1x trainers
1x spikes
1x helmet
Whites
Some bandages/supports.
Sunglasses
Hat
Various small collected detritus already :-[
It feels like I'm not having to squash everything in and risking damage (esp due to spikes).
It also stands up in a corner so win in the changing room and at home with SWMBO.

This is what I don't understand. Why do you need a massive bag for that? The Salix Pod Pro at 86cm long x 36cm high x 33cm wide easily holds that plus a whole lot more (read towel, wash kit, lunch and a couple of jumpers) (Volume= 0.102 cubic metres). You'll have enough space in the Ayrtek, which is 97cm x 46cm x 36cm, for a small wicketkeeper (Volume= 0.161 cubic metres).
Or to put it another way, the increase in volume going from a Salix Pod Pro to a Ayrtek stand up size is a little more than 50%. I hope you are the one driving!

In response to Tim's post there, I am inclined to agree, as the Salix Pod Pro can fit an awful lot in despite not being one of the larger, stand-up type bags. I am, however, also guilty of big bag syndrome! I think I just wrongly assumed I needed a bigger bag (as I have every piece of protective gear under the sun including chest guard, strippers, arm guard etc + oversized pads too), and I've been punished for that decision as the aero bag I have is absolutely terrible. I am sure the Salix Pod Pro would have served me better...

What is so bad about the aero?

Very true. I keep all my gear in a holdall at home and only take what I need for match day. less to lookafter and easy to manage .

You're brilliant review of the Tour on youtube is shortly going to cost me £80...
Cheers 'mate' ;)

It's awkward, doesn't stand up properly, and very flimsy too. It's lasted me all of half a season. I still use it but it's probably better off in the rubbish bin (or a big skip!) now! AVOID.

Cheers for that, mate. The review would have been better if I had loaded it with gear though, just to properly demonstrate the space. Glad you liked it though...

I can recommend Salix, I have the Pod1 and it is really well made, good strong material, and strong zips. It is big but it stands up which helps.
I take 2 bats, my pads, lid, strippers, 2 pairs of gloves, box, spikes, trainers, kit and towel etc. Etc.
-
I've always had big bags. Why?
A) I take too much kit to matches (2 bats, pads, 3x gloves, 2x shoes, box, lid, strippers, 2x trousers, 2x shirts, 2x jumper, many caps, accessories, training kit [eg hoody, shorts, track suit bottoms], wash bag, towel, magazines, gripping cone, sunglasses + large case with spare lenses) - I've probably missed somethings
B) I like to keep my kit organised (I methodically pack my kit EVERY Saturday morning) and I don't like squashing stuff in
C) I keep all my gear packed away at home and a big bag holds it all
-
what bag would that be johnny?
and i would be carting around 2 bats, pads, gloves, inners, spikes, trainers, box, 2 lids, aero strippers, training kit, pants, white shirt, jumper, underlayer, caps, rags, towel, gripping cones, balls, nerf ball (haha)
need a large bag!!
-
To add to this, anyone seen the GN Legend bag for this year? Not sure if you have done a review Paul? Looks like a contender for the big bag brigade aka keepers...

Sorry for the slow reply - I have a Hunts County Almighty. Prior to that I've had 2 Aero tour bags, but they both fell apart
-
And yet I have an Aero Tour bag which takes a battering for the best part of 2 years, and is still going strong with no problems!

No, haven't stocked that one before, hence no review. If we stocked all the big bags, we'd have no room in our shop to put the bats, or anything else for that matter! Nightmare to store and display...
