Title: Measure your edges...
Post by: tim2000s on January 08, 2013, 07:44:13 PM
Given the odd edges on Paul's A41, has anyone else measured both edges on their bats? If you have, what have you found?

Would be quite an interesting bat to be honest if you could keep the weight down  :D.

Did a quick measurement on three bats. Results are from an MSR, an Instinct and a Dynadrive.

The results are...

33mm and 33mm
34mm and 34mm
36mm and 39mm

All measured at the same distance from the toe per bat. Can you guess which bat is which?

The Dynadrive will be the 36mm and 39mm, not sure on the others.  Interesting - what does this say about GN's bat making?!

slazenger v12 has 37mm edges weight 2.9
Slazenger v1200 40mm edges weight 2.8
Laver and wood reserve 40mm edges weight 2.10

Hades is 32 & 33
Laver is 28 on both
B3 (CNC remember, so should be the same on both), 34 & 35!

And Paul is correct, the Dynadrive has the highest discrepancy.

B3 cnc is not accurate so does not surprise me

I suspect most B3 customers don't notice, but that's not a good sales pitch for B3...

Well as I operate and train people on cnc's which have to be accurate to 0.1-0.2mm at most being a mm out in your case and 25mm out in mine not a great advert

No, I'd agree. I wonder how many others of the B3s are not quite right? Anyone else care to do a measurement?

People trust the sales info so doubt check specs but would be very interesting

Sorry if I've missed this somewhere else but what was B3's attitude about this Buzz?

Do you mean about having an inaccurate CNC machine?

Well my b3 is 100 per cent accurate to he nail of the spec asked and I suspect it may e not down to the Cnc machine but to finishing.

But I know bigger all about Cnc to be honest

Why didmu not get your tape measure out when you was there bud.
You gave them exact measurements and then even went up to collect your bat surely if your giving exact measurements than you would have checked.

Had measurements on computer as I trusted maker as I always do so did not think I'd need to scrutinise the bat

Live and learn

Mids 43mm 2lb 6oz
Chase 26mm 2lb 8oz
Chase 29mm 2lb 7oz
Laver 36mm 2lb 6oz
B3 36mm 2lb 9oz

Arron if your that exact bud I would scrutinise every bat.

I was that exact with a bat that was cnc'd to exact specs etc but maybe I should of done as you said and scrutinised bat there to save issue

I'm kind of with Roco on this one. If you have worked with CNC systems on in manufacturing, there is such a close tolerance on CNC machining that to have any kind of noticable gap between what you send as the model and what you receive is not at all what you'd expect.

As he says, you live and learn.

What I found interesting in doing this exercise is that none of my bats have the particularly giant edges of many of the "big edge" bats, but equally, most are not terribly heavily concaved either...

CNC's can go out of alignment over time, but should be recalibrated regularly to correct them. Some kind of quality control system should feed back how accurately the machine is working to allow it to be tweaked if it goes out of tolerance.

Maybe B3 should start a non-conformance bucket for bats machined out of tolerance! :D

Exactly

I test at least once a week on tools bed plus parallel alignment so its bob on

Roco, have you not thought about returning the bat? May be a good test to see what there customer service is like.

Well talked to them about it but after a few mails with them they seemed offended I questioned there product and rather than help me they tried to convince me they were right but after awhile they offered to make a new one but after the hassle I just decided to sell (at a loss) and live and learn

How do you get on with your Legacy, Tushar?

It was heavier than i usually use and obviously pick-up wasn't the lightest (was still a good pick up the bat but too much for me) so i ended up selling it on ebay...i think i got my money back...had only tried it in one net and when i did make contact it flew but again i couldn't even reach half the stuff...i think getting it in an ounce lighter than i usually use would've worked well..
