Title: Red Ink Middling bat
Post by: Chad on January 09, 2013, 06:42:37 PM
Hey, just a review of a middling bat I got off John. First of all, I want to say that John was brilliant with his communication, and would recommend him to anyone who likes to be kept updated in proceedings and likes their questions answered quickly. :)

Specs:
Width - 82-83mm (a little over 3 and 1/4 inches)
Edges - 42mm for both (None of this E41 edge nonsense! :P) and 20mm and 22.5mm at the shoulder
Middle position - 7 and a half inches from the toe, as requested
Weight - 2lb 10.95oz
Bow - Very little to none
Handle - Oval (Might be semi-oval, not sure. Would be nice if someone could tell me the difference!)

Overall extremely happy with this middling bat. The finishing is really very nice, and I was really very surprised! I didn't expect it to be quite as nice as it turned out, the grains are nice and clean and it was stickered up as well! (Stickers look amazing IMO) I haven't used it yet, but it will be fun hitting a few balls with it in the nets, and it sounds superb off the mallet. Might be tempted to use it in a game! 8)

There are a few very small splinters which have been taken from the back, and there are a few bumps at the toe of the bat at the back (possibly from when John was taking weight off at the toe with a drawknife) and the slightly thicker shoulder, but I'm just picking at things. I am very happy with my purchase, so much so that I have asked John to make me a full sized bat. 8)

That does look excellent! I would also agree with the comments on Johns communication, hoping my Red Ink will arrive tomorrow, Johns has been nothing but helpful throughout the whole process.  :D

Looks a cracker.

After something similar for club nets - can you say how much it cost?

Cheers

Ive got a couple of clefts left that i can use to make middling bats. they can be made to a variety of weights to suit your match bat. Get your hands on one for pre season nets. £45 posted in the UK!
