Title: Sponsorships
Post by: Hammer Cricket on January 10, 2013, 04:09:08 PM
Every day i get sponsorship requests from all over the world from people ranging from every skill and age group..\

I was wondering if there is actually anyone on this forum that is 100% fully sponsored...if you are...what level of sponsorship and who is it...( good opportunity to plug your sponsor here..)

Im not talking discounted gear from a sponsor...im talking absolute 100% free gear..

I doubt there is anyone 100% sponsored!  I know from my days as a junior that even the lads who were on the county's radar were lucky to get better than a cheap deal - indeed, the only one who I could say definitely got his gear for nowt happened to be the son of a rather famour England all rounder!

from asking around ive found that as a junior if you play for county you will get in the region of a 20-35% discount, never more, if you are in the england academy it will probably be higher but exact figures im not aware off

Even county 2nd 11 players struggle to get full sponsorships.  When i was 14 and we got into the north of england you got an instant 50% sponsorship of gray nicolls which you could either take or decline
The highest i ever got was 60% with kookaburra which was for last year and this year, though i never used the offer

Use it before you lose it.

They are scrapping the current setup and bringing in a new, strict set of criteria to get a discount deal. All existing agreements will be honoured until their expiry though.

Ive always said, right i'll buy some kook gear, but then i come on the forum and see some bats on here and get sidetracked haha.   The pads don't really fit my calfs that well either.
Im not gonna reapply anyway, i like using different brands too much!

I sent a cheeky email to one of the forum sponsors last season as there website has a sponsorship "button" on it and got 20% off the kit I ordered, not sure if it really counts as as far as I'm concerned you don't pay when someone sponsors you!

We offer local 'sponsorship' deals on our own Lion brand to players in minor counties teams, most of them are discounts as described above, but we did give gear 100% free to one player recently. That was very much the exception to the rule though.

We will consider anyone on the discount scheme though, its best to get in contact with us.

The amount of younger players I've met who give it the big one about their 'sponsorship package' and on closer examination it turns out they've got 20% off RRP is amazing! That's not sponsorship that's a decent deal on gear!

I do play with a guy who's sponsored by Salix though....properly sponsored.

I'm available for 100% free kit. I won't score many runs, but in the Fattus style, I will parade about the boundary fully dressed in your gear for the entire innings whilst waiting to bat and waving your wood around my head, and with my 6'5 frame you'll have a magnificent advertising hoarding to boot...!

In todays age, 20% off RRP is a terrible deal tbh.

£600 RRP for a Legend
Minus 20% equals £480
We sell it for £425

Whether it's 20% or 50% it's still not sponsorship.
Title: Re: Sponsorships
Post by: Hammer Cricket on January 10, 2013, 06:50:07 PM
i think the whole RRP this is retarded.....my bats are worth $499....i sell them for $499....end of story...

why discount your brand and devalue it at the same time....its makes it easy for consumers to put retailers against each other buy having to price match...just makes my life difficult to be honest...all the GN bats are the same as an example...there should be a fixed price for gear...let the consumer pick the gear based on customer service rather than who is willing to take the biggest hit on price...

that is maybe for a different thread though....back to sponsorship talk please  8)

I would think brands do it because it gives them higher margins than selling to retail, and gets their bats in the hands of younger players who hopefully become advocates of the brand.

I use far too much of a variety of brands to be sponsored! :-[

I think I have only seen one person sponsored fully, and that is by Legget and Coe. The rest are Juniors who have been given decent discounts, but I think that one of them who captained one of the Scotland youth squads may be fully sponsored by Salix. Will ask him when I next see him!

It is illegal to fix prices for retailers, you can only set a RRP.

OK, but RRP is always insanely high...
Title: Re: Sponsorships
Post by: Tom on January 10, 2013, 07:03:18 PM
Manufacturers set RRP based on the cost and trade price of an item, it is the retailers who choose to sell lower and make it look artificially inflated. One retailer does it and unfortunately the rest have to follow.

Can the flat discounting of 20% straight off RRP continue to be viable? We've already seen Romida hit problems with huge debts. Perhaps one for another thread...

Ooooooh - get the run-machine! How's that forward-defensive coming along?

Need to bloomin' well get on with it to get a decent sponsirship deal. Major brands like Kicking Horse, Winfield and Lion Revolution don't give deals out to pedestrians

Robin is the chairman and captain f the club we play for.

Lost count of the times I said I was happy to pro for a large dominos after I regularly out scored our rather costly pro in 2012.

Cricket for pizza is my dream deal.
