This will be interesting to know as every bat for sale lately from sponsors seems to be around 2-8 with the magic 40mm edges.
If you could vote and post with what your using please
I currently use around 2-11 to 2-12 but I am hoping my new bat arrives around 2-9.
-
Used to use 2.11/2.12 when I was younger, I'm more of a 2.8/2.9 man these days. Don't really mind the edge or spine height.
-
I prefer 2.10-2.11 but closer to 2.11 the better...although i can use much heavier as well but ideal as asked for is 2.11
-
If it picks up right im not too fussed by weight, but most of my bats are 2'9
I used to use bats that were a little heavier, but due to now playing at a higher level than ever before and facing the odd pretty tasty bowler, i cant really have a big heavy club as some of the bouncers are not pleasant!
-
Around 2.11-2.12. I would love to go a little lower, for better batspeed, but I don't really face anyone that troubles me too much in terms of pace! :-[ (Also, a lot of my bats I have already bought at that weight, so best not change my mind now! :D)
-
Use bats around 2.8/2.9. Just find anything too heavy slows my shots down too much.
However as I use harrow length bats the profile is often bigger for that weight.
-
Always opted out for 2.9-2.11ish, however, have got two bats now which are 2.6/2.7 naked and think thats ideal.
-
2.7. 2.8 at the very most.
Cant get the bat up fast enough for pull shots if its too heavy.
-
2lb14-3lb 1" long blade took me a while to find this but suits me perfect
-
2.9 to 2.10 with a good pick up
-
Always used a 2lb 14 bat until Bulldog. Now use 2lb 11.
-
I had an ex Gloucester player in the shop yesterday for some bats. Wanted 2lb 7 like his GN's so weighed his GN's and they were 2lb 11 !!
-
Tim Hancock??
-
2lb9-10oz fully dressed
-
I currently use a bat around 2.8 but my next bat will be a little heavier, somewhere between 2.9 - 2.10

Does that mean his GN's had excellent pick up?
Back to my original preferred weight of 2lb9oz
-
It means that people have a set weight in their mind that they must use when in reality the balance and pick up is more important.
-
Although my current bat weight is 2.6 which is ideal for my skinny arms :)
But i guess i my next bat will be 2.8/2.9 ofcourse in harrow length ;)

Well my theory about weight is simple 2.6/2.7 or 2.7/2.8 .. pick up should be ultra light and nice balence ofcourse 8)

I would suggest this is due to most companies giving the weight before grips and stickers. The amount of guys I know that think they are using a 2.9 when it is at least 2.11
I like 2.9 finished 2.95 including scuff sheet

A lad at our club asked for 2.6oz and thought that's what it was. I weighed it after refurbing it for him and it was 2.9oz.
Think a lot of people pick the bat up first and say "i like this one" and the sales man says "what do you normally use?" And then just agree for the sale.
Thing is, if it picks up perfect it doesn't matter as much about the weight.

I suppose its easier when you know a brand thats basically stickerless ;)
Im a 2.9 finished man as well. Theres still plenty of power in the stick and the timing should be there! 2.8 is a really nice weight as well, I played with the award winning SAF 2.8 from a while back and it just felt perfect in the hands
-
I have found the pick up and decent balancing the scales and be knocked up by 3oz
I like lout pick ups and if a weight is lost desirable for me is around 2lb 6-7oz but I can go up to 2lb 9oz if it a decent pick up.
I more fussy about the size I hate massive looking bats in my hand sounds odd it I prefer a more slimline profile because some just feel odd like my mids which is 2lb 6oz gripped and 43mm edges but looks and feel odd because in my eyes it looks too big
-
Going a bit lighter
2.8
-
anything between 2.9 - 2.12 really, although I like to choose on pick-up and feel rather than dead weight tbh.
-
I've been 2.9 in 2011 (GN Ignite) and 2.9 in 2012 (Kooka Kahuna) but this year I'm 2.10 with Blueroom as it felt the best.
-
Last season I was 2.8, this season I've gone to 2.9 and actually feel a lot happier!
-
To be honest, I'll use anything... My current match bat (Hunts County) is 2'13.5 but it picks up a dream, picks up so well for its weight, but my spare is a GN which weighs 2'10. I also bought a SAF over winter which weighs 2'11-2'12, not actually properly checked yet, but for me it's about pick-up. the GN picks up the best, the SAF and the Hunts are similar (but the SAF is a lower middle, so that explains the slightly heavier pick-up by comparison!)
-
3lb, I used 2,12 the other season and I'm a lot happier with the heavier weight, it feels like I'm not as early on the ball anymore and to be honest my Redback picks up well so I don't notice the difference. I never know how the odd ounce makes much difference.
-
i dont know :( i use owt
-
mine is 2.9 to 2.10 - that option is missing :)
-
Used to be close to 3lb (when I was young ;) ), now its more 2.10-11
-
Started at 2.11lbs when I was a strapping God - down to a measly 2.8lbs now I am a 17st Gaylord!
-
Mine is a fully dressed 2'8, maybe up to 2'85 at the most. I have tried other weights and even bats that pick up well but pick up does not compensate for that extra bit of weight that makes the difference between middling the ball or being a bit too late on the shot.
-
I've been enjoying using very light 2-6/2-7 bats, but recently bought a 2-9 which turns out to have a better pick up than the two lighter ones that I have. A, to see if I can actually use one in the popular weight range and b, to see if I get more value for my shots - such as they are...
-
3lb, every time!!!!
-
Using 2 bats which are 2'10. Haven't weighed them with a second grip on though (which they both have) so probably nearer 2'11. Getting a net bat which is just over 2'11 soon too.
They both pick up around 2'8/2'9 though. Amazing what you can do with wood these days!
-
Although in this, weight is not everything. Pick up and balnce can lead you to use a weight you don't think you would use.
-
Spoken like a true batsmen bruce
-
2.8 fully dressed.
2.6 naked.
I am a cutter and hooker...so a light bat is a must.
-
How's you season going Vic ?
-
Just weight mine not one is above 2lb 8oz gripped and ready to go
My b3 started out at 2lb 9oz and a half
-
Interesting debate but I think as suggested a couple of times, the pickup and feel is more important than the dead weight. But similarly these preferences are probably as individual as each of us.
I have bats of varying sizes and pick ups and having grown up with quickish bowlers on bouncy wickets some shots (for example the hook and pull) are so instinctive that I often don’t even remember the shot after playing it. Usually the adrenalin kicking in I guess.
-
Have always used 2'8 or 2'9 but just ordered a 2'12 from Redback which I can't wait to get my hands on.
-
I have always looked for 2.8 / 2.9 bats but used a heavier 2.11 M&H Solution last summer and scored the most runs ever in a season.
Mind you I had my highest score in September when I used my son's 2.65 blank BAS which he picked up from Asad at Uzi sports. Cracking bat.
Experience has taught me not to get too hung up about bat weights - use it perhaps to narrow the field but ultimately I use pick up and feel to guide me to a decision.
-

Just fair mate.
Getting to 30 a lot, but not going on with for a big score.
Still plenty of games to go though!
-
My option isn't there - 2lb 7.5os'z - 2lb 8.5oz's
-
Interesting that 50% of the votes are for the 2.8-2.9 range, but, from what I've found, most suppliers and makers of bats have the most bats in the 2.10-2.11 range.
-
I like a heavier bat as is disguises my poor timing well!
