Title: Bat Grips - A minor detail?
Post by: tom_hhcc on January 13, 2013, 02:26:01 PM
Hi Guys,

This is my first post on the forum and it may not be the most groundbreaking topic, but I have just been shopping around for some bat grips, and wondered if any of you guys put a lot of thought into what grip you have, whether you found some are better than others, or whether you just shove any old grip on and get on with it!

Thanks!

Tom

definately!
Not much worse than a bad grip.
I personally love the octopus grip and haven't changed that for a long time, superstition or just preference I'm not sure, but there you go!

In my case, I prefer thinner round handles, and therefore I tend to go for a pretty bog standard chevron grip, with not too many "ups and downs" like the spiral/coil grips which I find a little thick, or the octupus grip which has a bit too much "give" in it for my liking.

Scale/half moon grips are nice, but not sure whether they damage the gloves more.

There are a lot of grips these days, I think it's about finding what works for you. There getting pricey though!

I have used the octopus grip in the past like SelectCricket and found it quite comfortable.
I tend to double up grips, but with my new bat's handle being a lot thinner than my last ones, I may have to triple up (well wouldn't that be some inns!)
So perhaps the chevron like grip may do the trick there!

yes retailers/suppliers have cottoned onto the fact they can charge a few extra £££ per grip and make a tidy profit.

Don't get me started on this!!!

all the fun grips have disappeared - the stripey ones, the chequered ones and the multi-coloured ones. It's a crying shame I tell you!!!!!

Where do you play Tom?

I can only use spirals as rougher grips hurt the corner of my palm- anyone else have this problem?

FattusCattus - I play for Horton House in Northamptonshire - Yourself?

Some cracking photos on that link uknsaunders! Wish they were in that detail on some of the websites I have been looking at!

I borrowed a friends bat for the back end of the season which has spirals and it was more comfy than I thought it would be having not used one before. However cannot say I have had pain through the rougher grips, although I have always worn inners when I bat which probably helps with protection from that.

I have found a soft matrix grip to by my favourite, with half an octopus grip under the bottom hand.
that sort of set up may help you.

I'm a big fan of the spiral. Usually have the bog-standard grip that comes with the bat then add a spiral on top. Find them comfier and easier to grip like that.

I've a weird set up as some know

Octopus
Half spiral
Quarter octopus
Spiral

Gives a really thick handle especially on bottom hand but works for me but always has to be spiral on top

I'm a recent convert to the latex octopus grip. Thin, very grippy and layered up I can get just the right thickness. I used to be all about GM Shockabsorbers but you can't layer them up as they're too thick and they're a bitch to get on.

The octopus grips do trash your gloves though but I like the excuse to buy more...

I use GM Control grips as they feel the most comfortable in my hands.

I play for Brixworth, i think there are a few lads from Stoney on here too, if you play in the ones be sure to say hello - if you ask for the biggest  in the side, people will point you in my direction! :-), Jarv knows me, I'm Ross, AKA "Gibbon"

I prefer the spiral but got for the octopus as they are easier to put on. I go for the easy way of life.
