Anyone here found themselves trying desperately to get themselves into better Cricket Shape?
Ive found myself going to the gym more, and running as an attempt to get myself back among the runs and wickets next year. I didnt net at all last year as being in America and I put on a lot of weight over there (the sizes of portions are huge) I therefore struggled massively on my return as my pace wasnt there, and my control was totally lacking.
Anyone got a pre season routine going?

In all honesty I don't think I've ever been that fit - I was ok once when I worked as a postman 6 days a week and played cricket too but certainly not like some people on here who run miles, etc.
I did once try a gym but didn't like it much aside from the rowing machine. I do want to get a bit fitter so I'm trying to eat less junk and also walking to work most days (3.5 miles so should help a little). I'll be netting twice a week from feb and also plan to try the odd run when it's not snowing.
Johnny - congrats on winning the M&H gloves on twitter.

I went from 14st 4lb to 13st 2lb around October time. I have put back on most of that though... :-[ The aim is to get down to 12 stone, as I am only 5'8-5'9, and even though I am a large frame, it's no excuse to not lose weight, as it is pretty obvious that I have weight to lose! If I want to keep bowling medium pace, I can't have too much strain on my body and also increase my flexibilty, as I have been riddled with back strains and knee injuries, and have only really played around 5 years of cricket (I'm 20 now), so injuries aren't a good thing.
I was actually on the Insanity fitness program for about a month in October time, and was getting compliments all round, even from my own family (who always poke fun at my size and weight!) about how much better I looked. I gave up on the second month though, as it was just too difficult, so looking to start again tomorrow after my last exam with a fit test. It really does improve your flexibilty incredible amounts, as I could barely touch my toes with my finger tips at the start, but about 3 weeks in, I could put my palms on the floor. Might actually start a mini blog thread with my weight at the start of every week, and results of the fitness test every fortnight. (And pics, assuming people don't mind their eyes being violated.)

Where did you get the insanity work out from? I take it you didnt pay the ridiculous fee?

Actually, I did haha. :-[ The cost isn't that bad for it to be honest, better than any £100 I spent on any cricket bat, and probably the smartest purchase I made in 2012. I noticed very good results in the balance department of batting after a month of use, not sure if it is because I was using my muscles a lot more, or because I lost weight, probably both though! It takes up quite a bit of time though, as the videos are around 40 mins long, increasing to 55-60 in the second month, but you have to recover and make food afterwards, which makes it around 1 and a half to 2 hours some days. :(
I think I paid around £120 for it in the end with the lifetime warranty for the discs. I think a few people have download links etc. but I know my friend used to use Youtube for them, but they got taken down. He actually used Insanity to gain weight, as he is like 6 foot, but couldn't gain weight because of his high metabolism! I haven't looked for any download links, simply because I fear viruses on the computer, but buying it is certainly worth it.

Ive been thinking about it for a while. Theres always places on Ebay for around the £35 mark, but im not sure how genuine they are. Obviously that shouldnt matter too much as long as they play well enough, but I dont really want to take the risk

I do insanity as well good work out but I lost a bit of muscle mass so combine it with kettle bells and works a treat
2nd month is a killer but worth it
Be wary of ones on eBay for low price as I've seen some poor copies that just ruin the experience and you don't get work out chart which helps

I started a change in my diet and doing weights again before Christmas. Wanting to get super fit and motivated again. Wanted to start before Christmas to get it in my head that it wasn't just a new years thing, it was a change for the better long term. A 'lifestyle change' rather than a diet. In 4 weeks I have dropped 5 kgs and the photos of when I started to now are crazy! Have started doing heavier weights now so can't wait for more progress over the next months. I'm not a big guy but did have a bit of a pot belly going on. Progress photos rather than jumping on the scales are a huge motivation

I have started using the myfitnesspal app on my iPhone and have started to see some great results. Sort of just eating the required amount if calories and doing minimal exercise you can still loose weight. But obviously the more exercise you do the quicker you will loose the weight. It does give you a really clear outline in the progress you make and it is really easy to add food as you can just scan it, add the amount and it tells you the calories altermaticly. It's just just a bit annoying when it comes to fresh veg ad fruit as obviously they don't have a barcode, but there is a search bar so it doesn't take that long.
When I first started it was before Christmas and I was a only doing 2 nets a week and 1 swimming season. But am now doin an extra net and a gym session and am begin to see good results. You would be surprised by just eating the right amount of calories what effect it can have.
