Title: Farewell to the Blacksmith...

Sad to think what he might have done for England had the selectors taken the same "oh well, he's fat" approach that they have with Fat Sammy...

Blackdog.... a very good player and a top bloke too! I wonder if he'll be turning out in the Somerset league of WEPL now for Ilton where he's an honorary vice president.

He might find a 2020 contract elsewhere u never know.some counties like kent need players but dont have big budgets for players.with his shape he was never going to play much for England- he likes a pint.
U just got to ask why rob key has only played a handfull of tests.the best opener in the country after tres in his prime and didnt toe the line.
Im not a kent supporter either!

Key's fitness must have been a factor in his non-selection for england, agree that on his day he is international standard but consistency another weakness

To be fair I think Key peaked at the wrong time - didn't he play in the 2004 series v West Indies, but then where would you have had him in the 05 Ashes team?

Blackie is asking where the story has come from on twitter as he said Durham haven't commented and neither has he!

Key hit 200 against the windies in 2004.
As for the 2005 ashes i would of batted him 3.hes one on the best allround openers in the game-admittedly past his best now.
He likes a fag and a pint and quite right fitness was a problem.
There have been recent test players carrying some weight-patel,flintoff,key,croft etc.
He's one for you:jessie ryder-i cant believe there are any NZ fans that do not want this guy in the test side-and he's carrying some timber.
Likes a drink too!!
Hope he gets a recall against us-sky sports reckons he is close to re selection

Ridiculous - he should be on most county's shopping lists once he's over the surgery.

He's a maverick, but he's a talent.

I'd sign him for Chertsey in a heatbeat - we've ot lots of beer and fags!
