OK so there are plenty of threads out there where we can all show off our shiny matchday willow, but personally, those blades never ever get near accompanying me to nets. I don't fancy losing one of them to a yorker bowled by our opening bowler using a sports direct special ball.
I thought we could all share the bats we take to nets, i have seen plenty of members mention their net bat, i'm intrigued to see exactly what everyone uses, and how it compares to their match bat?
Currently i am using this lump of dirt i got on ebay for £40. It had Malik stickers and side stamps, all of which have been removed, i chose it because of the shape mainly, it's a similar profile to my match bats (if anything, my match bats are more concaved than this) and weighs 2'9 which is the weight i tend to use. It performs OK, not world beating but good enough for nets. Most importantly, if it snaps in two at nets tomorrow i wont be too bothered.

This is what I used in my last two nets, so I would say my existing net bat is, custom Gray Nicolls Oblivion LE weighs 2.10 sourced from UziSports.

Haven't started winter nets officially but had some 1to1 coaching at old trafford, this will probably be my net bat (was my previous match bat).

2011 Net bat was a GN Ignite 5 Star 2lb 9oz.
2012 Net bat was a Kookaburra Kahuna 600, 2lb 9oz
This year I currently am using a Bulldog Pedigree Plus and a Blueroom New Wave MP+1.
I'll wack a picture of the Kook up later. It's on the forum previously in 'your kit' sections anyway.

My net bat this is year is this lovely Vulcan i picked up from Dean via the sale section a few months back. As you can see from my first net of the year i manages to use most of the bat except the middle lol.

I've never had a net bat.
I guess this season as I have two H4L's it could be either, but probably this one.....

It's going so well it's heading toward the #1 slot for our first match.
-
ftr, this is my eldest son's net bat.
Am MSR bought for a whole £25!
It's pretty hard pressed but picks up well and go's ok also.
I'm tempted to get one myself.

Cd what on earth happened to your toe guard.
Toe guards are a waste of time IMO, much prefer to use Shoe Goo or some other such adhesive paste/gel. Easier to apply and don't have to worry about it peeling off, last coat I put on my bats was about 3 years ago and still works a treat...

it's around 35mm at the largest point.
I gave Steve at MSR a very short brief, and he sent this one over. Delighted and great service.

Thats what i was thinking. I use a lump of horrible old filth as i'd hate to lose something as nice as the bats being posted here.

For a very long time (2-3 years?!)that icon 909+ functioned as a net bat and match bat! It's seen it's scars but i've touched it up. 'Tis a big piece of willow at 2'14 and developed a big ol' crack through the toe.

But I have to admire you jake as if I Watson your position I would find myself with 30-40 odd net bats as I don't know how you don't just pick up all those lovely sticks in your shop and start pinging them in your own net.

Ha, sometimes i do. But at least in my net i can set the length.
It's club nets with terrible non bowlers (like me) lobbing cheap rock hard balls down at you that scare me. I just would not dream of taking any sort of remotely valuable bat to club nets.
-
I only have one bat at the moment. Due to a couple of factors; 1) I have no money and 2) The Third XI has become defunct in our league so I'll only be playing 2/3 games if I'm lucky next year, so there is no need for me to have more than one bat at the moment

doesn't sound good! Where do you play Matt?

Matt that's awful :(

Get yourself a new club ASAP! Get playing and buying lots of shiny new kit :)
-

Trick is to use the middle ;)
-
doesn't sound good! Where do you play Matt?
Middleton, in the CLL (Central Lancashire League). They play most Saturdays and Sundays so they have very few free days to fit 3rd XI in... So more and more teams were dropping out of it and eventually it got to 3 teams in the league so they pulled the plug

I would, but I live on the boundary and I love the club (even though I disagree sometimes with how it's ran). I suppose it may work as a motivator to try and make it into the 2nd XI
-
Well, sort of as expected, my net bat let go on me in spectacular fashion today.
I really went at a full delivery, misjudged it slightly (i was in full slog mode and was running at everything) and over-ran it, turning it into a yorker. Handle and a section of shoulder cracked and disintegrated in a cloud of filler (typical of cheap bats, they always have terrible handles full of filler)
I'm pleased as punch though. It's a minor excuse to go hunting for a cheap replacement (i love shopping) and also means one of my treasured match bats didn't meet it's maker prematurely.

RIP ;) (Rest In Pieces)

Cost me £34, stripped the stickers off it and made it look decent

Is anyone considering elevating their net bat to match bat status ? . I have GM purist academy 909 net bat which is the best profile I have ever used and cannot think using anything else for matches . Thanks for the bat Chad.

I would make this my net bat this season no problem, just don't have any matching pads at present which is why at the moment it's not my match bat. Oh and the £000 worth of Salix bats as well lol
-
Am I the only one who has a few bats but I use my main bat as my net bat as well
Bar he rain
-
On occasions I use my main bat in the nets but not indoor nets as the floor is to hard and bounce tends to be quite low. I will use at outdoor nets at my club as they are new and very good quality nets so no problem using my match bat then.
-
(http://C:\Users\prussell\Pictures\untitled.png) here is my new net bat :D and match bat and everything else! :D
-
I take the opportunity to try out some bats in the nets!
If I didn't do that, then how would I know how well they are likely to perform, plus I have a few that I need to play in. But if I were to use a bat just for nets, it would likely be a slightly heavier bat....maybe 3 or 4 ounces heavier than my match bat!
-
Borrowing my friend's bat because he hates it and I don't want to break mine.
8 grains
2.10
25mm edges
53mm spine

would i ! ;)
just ordered a MSR net bat off Steve seems like a really nice guy and ideal to use that for the quicks ;-)
-
dug out an old bat for tonights netting its an old gunn & moore (not sure what as the stickers came off a long time ago) that has been brought to life many times and is held together with lots of wood glue and a protective face, but was happy that the old belter went well its also a bat that has been used lots on astroturf and in wet weather think it has more cracks than grains
one ill never be able to let go
-
Decided to get a bit arty......
It's the duck and run. Same middle as my Newbury, my H4L is a slightly lower middle (has a broken handle atm :( ) and the Laver has a slightly higher middle.
