anybody else find this a little stupid? yes warne probably took it to another level with what happened but surely samuels should be banned or atleast receive more than a slapped wrist for grabbing hold of the batsman and stopping him taking a run earlier in the game? thats the reason warne got fired up.

saying he couldnt afford to set a bad example to the kids in the crowd yet he grabs a players shirt to stop him going for a second. double standards i think

Samuels had a misdemeanor which he deserved to be punished for  (shirt grab) but warne took it way too far. Also samuels isn't a "legend" or as big a public figure as warne therefore would ingluence fewer kids. Do think samels got off easy though after bat chucking, was totally out of order.

I felt exactly the same John. Sure Warney went over the top, but Samuels should have been reprimanded for holding Hussey back. This kind of poor sportsmanship totally contradicts the spirit of the game. And I can't believe the reporter failed to question Samuels on his incident with Hussey either. Pretty pathetic journalism as well actually...

yeah, i think both were in the wrong. you can understand why warne reacted in the heat of the game. yes he took it too far but would that have ever happened if samuels hadnt tried to give hussey a hug? probably not.

I found it amusing when Shane Warne took the "revenge" in second innings and it was wholly absurd especially considering the fact he is over 40 and has played cricket at highest level for most of his life. At that age I would have expected better from him, I doubt a high-school kid would even do such after a brief respite from initial altercation.

While on other hand I was bemused as I read through that article, I mean what the heck is Samuels trying to depict?! I agree, he certainly deserved a harsher punishment. Sameuls was lucky that the bat did not make any contact with any player, it would have made things disgusting had it struck anyone.

I'd understand if he had done it straight after the incident but he had a huuuge amount of time tp cool down. The fact that it wasn't in the heat of the moment leads me to believe it was planned. Hadn't he reacted i'm sure samuels would've been punished more harshly. He hid behind the drama surrounding warne. Warne also tried to deny throwing the ball at samuels...

To be honest i think both of them got off lightly, fact that marlon  fractured his eye socket was probably karma!

Marlon Samuels was never short of confidence, the chap's a high class player, but a legend? Most certainly not.

Ridiculous. I don't condone Warne's actions for one second, but you should never hold a batsman back from running between the wickets (given that batsmen can be given out for obstructing the field, surely there has to be some penalty against members of the fielding side impeding a batsman...) and then to throw his bat like he did, even if provoked, has to attract some form of sanction.

Basically it's two egotistical clowns going at each other so no surprises what happened in the end.

For a man who has only had one above average year in international cricket Samuels really does have a bit of an attitude on him.

Warne needs to give up and retire once and for all. Samuels is treading a thin line after serving a 2 year ban and don't 100% understand how he got away with what he did more or less scott free. Although i would say his year was more than a little above average!  Athletes get away with a lot if you ask me, we're just lucky samuels isn't the fighting type or thing's could've gotten ugly. I'd give it 1 punch!

Agreed! Samuels has got a very high opinion of himself for a man who up until 18 months ago had achieved nothing in the game apart from being intensely disliked by most people. I always remember an interview he gave to Mark Nicholas during the last Windies tour over here when he found some form. I'll never forget how arrogant he came across as. The fact that Malinga pinned him made me smile at the time and makes me smile now. (glad he wasn't seriously hurt though)

Both he and Warne should have been punished identically though......
