Hey guys, I figured, since I have broken my main resolution of the year, no dining at fast food chains for a year except Subway, (To be fair, I did have a rough exam and just wanted to drown my sorrows in fried chicken) I decided I may as well do a mini-blog which I update maybe once a week or so. I am mainly doing this to lose weight and improve my fitness levels for the cricket season. I actually started this about 3-4 months ago, but gave up after the first month, and I lost just short of a stone in weight and ended up around 13st 2lb. I was just a little over 14 stone before, so was very impressed by how much better I looked and felt. Since then, I have put on around 2-3kg, so I am a little disappointed in myself, but with so little cricket going on (Club Winter nets start in February this year) and exams flying about, I couldn't really find the time to keep fit! Now that it is the start of the new semester and year with exams out the way until May, I reckon now is the best time to start again!
So here are the results of my fit test. I am pretty disappointed by the results, and actually had to go to the bathroom just after the 7th exercise and ended up throwing up and lying on the floor in comatose state for about 5 minutes! :-[ But this is the 3rd time I have ever thrown up as a result of exercise, and the second time I have done so in this fit test! (The other time was just after a Cross Country race) I think I managed to hold out until after the 8th exercise in the other fit test!
Switch Kicks - Around 99 proper ones
Power Squats - Around 65-68 (Writing is a little messy, so could be either...)
Power Knees - 87
Power Jumps - 28
Globe Jumps - 8
Suicides - 11
Jack Push-ups - 17
Plank Obliques - 35, but I think realistically, I would have gotten around the 25 mark...
All in all, disappointed, but happy that these are the results. Shows that I can't expect just to be ready straight off, and I will push harder to get into shape before the cricket season. These were the results of my first official fit test a few months ago...
Switch Kicks – 107
Power Jacks – 54
Power Knees – 65
Power Jumps – 30
Globe Jumps – 8
Suicides – 13
Push-up Jacks – 30
Plank Oblique – 30
Bearing in mind that I had actually done the fit test once before this, along with the power, plyometric and max recovery videos, and the cricket season was just ending, I guess the results show that I have lost a little bit of my endurance, but that is to be expected with so little exercise recently and also the fact I am still recovering from a virus.
Oh, and pictures and weights! I will conduct this like a scientific experiment, so I will have to wear the same kind of clothes, (underwear, socks, tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt) while weighing myself, and will do this once a week before the workout. I even went into John Lewis and bought a set of digital bathroom scales! Did not realise how much stuff they sell in there, but despite this, no decent cricket gear...
Apologies in advance for the potentially scarring pictures, but I am doing this on this forum in particular as I spend quite a lot of my time on it now, so if I do it this way, then I have no excuse not to do insanity really! I believe that fitness is a big thing in pretty much every sport you do, so if you are someone who doesn't mind working your body to the limit around 5 times a week for about 40 minutes each time (Or throwing up once every so often!), then keep checking this blog to see if it would be worth your time. :) After the first month of doing insanity, I definitely felt a big improvement in my balance while batting, and felt really confident in the university nets! 8) It also helps your flexibility, as I could barely touch my toes at the start, but could put my palms to the floor with ease after the first 3 weeks. :)

I hope this is of some use to people! I bought the DVD set, and it is worth every penny if you can bring yourself to do it!
PS. The video will be uploaded onto youtube, and I am trolled by my brother for a chunk of the video... >:(

Very good thread Chad, it will certainly motivate few lads (me especially).
I don't have any sort workout plan but I try to do something everyday, I'm keen on strengthening my core as in November after 10 minutes of batting it would become unbearable! So I began doing crunches, I would do it 3-5 times a week and would do close to 100 crunches (whenever I worked out) alongside 3x 30 seconds planks and lateral planks.
Now I am able to do 60 seconds plank followed by two 30 seconds one and aim to do 100 push-ups a day (albeit I haven't been achieving that task! Have peaked up to 75 mark!)[/I] along at least 120 crunches. Along 30 squats (thrice a week).
Now I am able to bat for 60 minutes against bowling machine with ease!
Over the course of past four-five months I have drastically lost lots of weight, I weighed myself in morning and I was around 172 lbs, and I vividly remember in summer I was close to 190 lbs mark. My pants waist has decreased as well! But that is not solely due to this, its also due to my illness.
I don't have any sort of workout plan so I'm not too organized, but I will become more vigilant.
My goal is to start running and get rid of the body fat around my abdomen region. My BMI is just under 25 which is good but its on borderline so I would like to further lower it by 10% at least..
Diet plays a major role too! I remember Alez Ariza saying on Twitter its 70% diet! Whilst living in an Asian family its extremely difficult to have a healthy diet but I try my utmost best to do it.
I would always have high protein breakfast (boiled eggs) and sometimes I will add whole wheat bread for fibre intake. Then for snack I would eat nuts, almonds, baby carrots etc. I also drink lots of water, it is only drink alongside milk which I drink. I literally don't drink anything else whatsoever. On weekends I give myself a treat with Galaxy bar! Its something I relish since childhood.
APologies for a rough post, wrote from my iPhone.

CD you should try using resistance bands they are a relly good tool for beginners and you can do so many exercises with them. and you can do them almost everywhere (easy to do in house)

Haha; they are prestigious to me as they are not available in Canada.

Nice little write up. :D
My wife and I are doing Insanity together and are into week two. Only down side for us is that we cant do it every day so its going to take a little longer than it should. On the plus side thou the OH is part of the England Karate squad and trains really hard for that and I hit the gym 3 days a week for a run or cross trainer followed by some Calisthenics.
Chad I think your fit test results are pretty good. My first fit test ended with me not doing the Plank Obliques due to not knowing if I was going to pass out or throw up.
Great workout.... :D
-
Great thread mate. I started a proper diet and back in the gym just before Chrissy. Have managed to shed my gut already and now starting to build a bit of muscle. Putting it on a forum and having a good support network is half the battle to pull through when you feel like giving up :)
Goodluck buddy will be good to see progress pics as I know mine are what helps to keep on going :)

Hey CD, that's great! The key thing is to keep it regular, and stay disciplined. As you have found, it does yield a very noticeable improvement in your batting, but also in your concentration, as you aren't getting tired quite nearly so easily! I think when I used to play rugby, I used to be able to do around 80 push-ups in around 50 seconds, but now I can barely manage at a rate of one per second! It was because I regularly trained in that area, and doing exercise regularly is important, especially during the off-season!

Thanks! It is definitely much better to do it with someone else, I had a good friend of mine I was doing the workouts with, but he's off to India for a while for some medical experience! :-[ I think that your wife will find that Insanity might improve her karate skills! Maybe improve her punching speeds with the end of the Plyometric workout. :D
Well, I did both! Well, was still conscious, but was on the floor for a good 5 minutes. That's why my plank obliques were relatively good, as I had some time to recover!

Thanks mate, I put this up here so that I would definitely go through with the workouts, as I don't want to be a laughing stock, so have to show some improvements after 2 weeks! :P I hope that it does encourage other members to try work on their fitness, not necessarily with Insanity, but some exercise everyday! It really does make a difference to your game!

Chad my friend! How you doing! Just thought I'd say I had my first gym session with a pt today and it absolutely killed me and I gotta go again tomorrow :( best bit of advise just push yourself don't stay in your comfort zone but you should know that :) anyway feel free to text me!

So, I did the Plyometric workout today, and safe to say that it is one of the tougher workouts of this month. I was really struggling, and it shows how much fitness can deteriorate over the off-season! I could barely walk in the morning as well, and as a result, missed a day of university. :(
Anyways, here's pictures of the post-workout meal/dinner. Yes, I had oven baked battered fish, 4 of them... But I hacked away the batter and tried to drain whatever oil I could with a kitchen towel. It's surprising, to say the least, how little fish is actually in these! :-[

Yes, that's batter/breadcrumbs from 4 fish...

Hey Morgan! Not doing bad, had a rough patch during exams, but all up and ready to get fit for cricket. 8) I agree, you have to push to your limit, as that's when you get the best results. Also helps as it makes you more able to dig deeper, especially when you need that extra strength to do things like stop a four or run that extra single. :D Shall drop you a text soon!

Chad, why didn't you just buy fresh fish and freeze it? It doesn't cost any more? And as long as you give it a chance to defrost, you can grill it or oven cook it wrapped in foil, sprinkled with salt and pepper.... And as it hasn't been fried it is much healthier!

Haha I haven't bought any food at the moment! This was what was in the fridge, and it was going off today, so figured I may as well eat it. :-[ I had actually bought it for the brothers to eat, but they were too lazy just to chuck it in the oven for 12 minutes, so I just decided to eat it. I will probably be buying fresh fish tomorrow though. 8) Can't beat a good bit of fish! :D

Insanity Fit Test Day 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al2MAvge4y8#ws)
Just the video for the fit test... Laugh all you want... :-[
-
How are you going with this Chad. I too am doing insanity. I've just started week 4. Although still finding each workout hard I am def feeling fitter and stronger. The day I manage to do the pure cardio workout with no breaks will be amazing!
-
Good effort,
Do you ever get knee pain?
-
I've not noticed any knee pain. I've even had ACL reconstruction in my left knee a few years back but that is fine. 1 thing the instructor keeps on about is never sacrifice good form, and to rest when needed to keep good form. I think if you stick to that then you won't get knee pain.
-
Well I'm into week 3 of insanity and things are really hotting up now, all the major aches and pains are a thing of the past and body movement is fantastic as well as my flexibility :D
I have lost no weight what so ever but I have lost 3 inches around my waist and I now also have a 4 pack.
As for my diet
Monday to Friday its 3 weetbix in the morning with 2 tea spoons of sugar and for lunch at work is 2 apples and a banana washed down with a protein shake. http://www.discount-supplements.co.uk/sports-supplements-whey-protein-optimum-health-ultimate-whey-protein-2-25kg (http://www.discount-supplements.co.uk/sports-supplements-whey-protein-optimum-health-ultimate-whey-protein-2-25kg)
Dinner is what ever the wife has cooked which is always healthy.
As for weekends its what ever is going with a shake thrown in as a meal replacement. As for the larger I have cut it down to a pint a week at the most..
So far so good.. will stick post my fit test results later today..
-
I'm on day 40 and lost a stone feeling fitter cut out all sugar and minimise on the apples as they have lots of natural sugar go for a salad for lunch and you'll see the weight drop

What's in a name, I who guess a set of wings and a fair disdain for 'hats'........
A simple and small change of diet and when you eat can have a really large effect.
Don't kill yourself Chad.

Whats the deal with this Insanity workout then?
I'm just in the middle of downloading it all, to give it a shot because I'm heavier than I've ever been and been promised a batting promotion if I can drop some serious weight.
From what I know, its 60 day program yes?
different workout every day? or?
any info would be good

Hey man, it is a 63 day program, and there are about 10 different discs, and you do one of them everyday, so you end up doing each about six times each. Try keep to the diet program and the exercise one for maximum results, I saw great results even when following the diet plan loosely! The rest is pretty self explanatory, and you can find a 63 day calendar online somewhere I'm sure, which tells you what to do on what day. :)
Hope this helps!
PS. I have been very bad with my Insanity workout and diet. Just so easy to fall out of it if you don't have someone working alongside you, and when you have been buried with work! I will be starting month 2 tomorrow, as I want to trim a lot before my 21st, which is exactly 4 weeks from today! :-[
-
Thanks mate, hopefully I will have someone doing it with me so we can help each other
The download I am using has a calender and journal included, probably have to find the diet plan somewhere else unless its with the download somewhere

It probably is mate! If not, drop me a PM and I'll let you know what's in it etc. Basically, it just gives you meals you could try and the calorific content of the meal. I normally improvise on these meals, or look at what they all have in common, so I know what I should eat and what to avoid. :) It also gives a list of foods that are good, and ones that should be eaten in moderation and others which should be avoided!

Interested to know how this is going chad!
-
I'm on my recovery week, having done 4 weeks, I have lost nearly a stone in weight as well. I haven't followed the diet plan as I had a cholesterol check which was a bit high, so I've cut out cakes, biscuits, pies etc and have lived on chicken, tuna, some pasta and fruit, fruit by the shed load, feel so f......g fit.
Loving Shaun T even though I know whats to come for the next 4 weeks.
Started off at 13 and a half stone, now 12 and a half aiming for 11 and a half possibly eleven for a visit to the Tour de France in July.
It is hard work with a full time job and the Mrs moans about the sweat on the carpet but she loves the new me.
Next up is the Asylum, check that out its insaner :)

How much does this workout cost guys and how long should each session take?
-
Due to start this next week with the missus... Going to be a case of very early mornings i fear.
-
I paid £99 for that you get the DVDs, eating guide, wall chart (to log your progress) and nutrition guide.
I think Argos are flogging it as well for around £80.
Best £99 I've ever spent.
Theres going to be some ripped fit cricketers out there
-
Sorry I haven't really kept this updated! I had a lapse in everything I did after the first week of this, it just seemed so much harder without someone to do it with you as a partner... So I restarted again just this Monday, and so far, have missed Plyo, Power and Cardio Recovery, so it doesn't look good! However, I have a little more of a spring in my step again since I received my Laver today. :D I'll show you guys the results in 2 months time. 8) The fit test absolutely destroyed me the other night! Thank goodness I didn't throw up halfway haha!
How much does this workout cost guys and how long should each session take?
It is worth every penny if you have the devotion to it. I sort of was devoted, maybe not too great on the diet, but the workout I didn't miss one for a whole month, and I went from 14 stone down to 13 stone and 4 pounds. 8) Each workout can take from 40-60 minutes generally!

Been super inactive lately due to school, but just wanted to know how this was going and how the progress has been chad! (If this zombie thread revival is in any way against any rules i'm happy for this post to be deleted).

I let myself go for a bit, and now I'm sitting at over 14 stone! I'm back at where I was last year, but I'm currently on day 3! :-[ Good thing is, my fitness levels aren't too low, bad thing is, I'm severely overweight at the moment! :( The problem lies with starting and stopping, I think getting yourself a partner to do it alongside is much better, as I've been trying to do it myself, but it just isn't the same. If you're both on the same day, and do it together, then it's much easier to get through!
-
I was in the exact same spot as you a few years ago. The best thing to get exercise done is to wake up early,e.g. if you normally wake up at 7 wake up at 6. This way you can't miss a session, ever, as long as you don't say "i will do it later"-never happens. Heve to be tough on yourself
-
These things are always better done in pairs or groups. Much easier to stick to when it's not just yourself you are letting down.

Were you doing it with your brother before? Personally I think that rather than judging yourself on weight to judge yourself on fitness instead. Weight is but a number and never tells the whole story :) I myself am 18 and a little over 14 stone which makes me statistically overweight. I'm also fitter than most people on my team so largely disregard my scale weight. Anyway good luck chad, hope it goes better this time.

Has anyone tried keeping up with Shaun T yet?
-
thinking of doing this to loose a bit of beer gut and improve stamina / flexability and general fitness. Seen it for £37 here http://www.followdvd.co.uk/goods-2048-Insanity+60-Day+Total+Body+Conditioning+Workout+Program+DVD+Boxset.html (http://www.followdvd.co.uk/goods-2048-Insanity+60-Day+Total+Body+Conditioning+Workout+Program+DVD+Boxset.html) is this the proper version / complete set? Only the offer seems too good to be true?
