Hey guys, just thinking if getting a bat made in mid feb so I can put a nice bit of thought into it! My Main question on my mind is why do some bats have flat face with square edges and then some rounded? What difference does this actually make to the bat? Hope this makes sense! Haha
Thanks, Morgan

flat faced bats make the edges look larger - i guess if you round them off they loose a little bit of that look. i always round of the edges slightly. square edges you run the risk of more damage if you get a thick edge. rounded them off can help stop the damage. some brands round them off, others like bradbury dont. guess it all comes down to preference.

So it is just purely for cosmetics? :)

yes with a little bit of protection aswell. Alot of people will round the edges on their bats when they buy them anyway. I spoke to Paul Bradbury about it at the trade show a couple of years ago. alot of retailers were asking him to round the sharp edges on his bats. he told me that the retailers were worried about returns but he hadnt really seen any issues with it. told them to either round it themselves or the customer would most likely do it if they were worried. obviously not quite in those words but atleast its repeatable lol

There is a variety of internet documentation suggesting that a Flat face may make you able to place the ball better and provide more power in your shots due to better angles. If you are good enough to notice this yuou are probably playing ECB Premier Level or above...

Nope this is from Andy @ SAFbats:
As a quick aside a flat roller pressing should give you a more uniform pressing hence the other benefit!

Just to clarify are we talking about a flat faced bat with square edges vs a flat faced bat with round edges or flat face vs round face? the way i read id was rounded refered to the edges and not the face?

Yeah I'm talking about flat face with edges vs flat face with rounded :)
