Title: Knocking in. Protection or performance
Post by: Steveo1000 on January 22, 2013, 06:32:26 PM: Does anyone know if knocking a bat in actually improves the performance of that bat. Or does it just protect it from damage?
Do the pro's have their bats knocked in before using them?

Post by: Chad on January 22, 2013, 06:37:48 PM: Knocking in makes a thin veneer of harder wood on the surface of the face with 'springy' less compressed wood behind it, which allows for more of a 'trampoline' or 'springboard' effect. I think that it both improves the performance and lifespan of the bat. I know that most professionals don't have time to knock their bats in, but I'm not sure if they are pressed in a way which allows them to use it straight away, or if they are knocked in professionally. :-[

Whenever ive had a bat back from a refurb I found the rebound weaker and have knocked it in again ... but thats just me!
