Title: Knocking in. Protection or performance
Post by: Steveo1000 on January 22, 2013, 06:32:26 PM
Does anyone know if knocking a bat in actually improves the performance of that bat. Or does it just protect it from damage?
Do the pro's have their bats knocked in before using them?

Knocking in makes a thin veneer of harder wood on the surface of the face with 'springy' less compressed wood behind it, which allows for more of a 'trampoline' or 'springboard' effect. I think that it both improves the performance and lifespan of the bat. I know that most professionals don't have time to knock their bats in, but I'm not sure if they are pressed in a way which allows them to use it straight away, or if they are knocked in professionally. :-[

as far as I've been told it both improves performance compared to a non knocked bat and it helps to preserve the bat.
