Title: Now and then, have i managed not to get any worse.
Post by: Kulli on January 24, 2013, 07:15:16 AM
Same time of year, same nets, I've tried to work on a few things over the last 12 months but only having 2 hours of a 1 lane net once a week all summer makes it a little harder than normal.

Any comments on differences or just technical deficiencies in general are very welcome.

Having watched it a few times i don't think much has changed. I switched to a lighter bat (2'7 from 2'9) as I felt going from soft wickets to concrete ones meant i got caught out by back of a length balls a little too often.

I found with the lighter bat that I was a bit inclined to let the bottom hand dominate, and i also feel that I lack a bit of power on the drive at times.

I  think I've also managed to stop doing that little press to the ground after playing a forward defence, rather than just holding the position i hit the ball in.

And here's 2015's edition, as always any technical pointers much appreciated, also feel free to laugh at them trying to coach me to pull in the final bag or so, as shot I've never played before and which feels terribly unnatural to me.

The only things I've noticed is that right before the point of delivery I seem to be falling slightly over to the offside with my head (any ideas why and simples ways to correct this appreciated) and that i don't get my foot over to the offside far enough when driving the wide ones.

EDIT - after som tips from @WalkingWicket37  I have made this one easier to watch, and embed. Clips aren't all in sync as i did it while 'working' but you'll get the gist.

EDIT - ok seem to have lost the abaility to embed the video.

Have managed to pick up a go pro, worth adding to this thread or am I talking to myself?  :(

Add some stuff!
As aesthetically pleasing as it is to watch myself heave everything to cow corner, it's nice to watch others batting too!  :D

The indoor nets are in Tveita (fairly central in Oslo) and were put up in an old printworks a little over a year ago, one of the few positive things we actually managed to get completed when I was on the board. They're pretty standard nets by UK standards but a godsend when before all we had was local school halls that banned people from using proper cricket balls because they broke everything.

@jblowe your brother doesn't happen to be looking for a (new) club does he?  ;)

@DorsetDan Unsurprisingly they nets are hugely popular with local clubs - some teams have a training slot 10-12pm midweek! - but if your ever able to pop up to Oslo on a Thursday evening your welcome to join us.

I will ask him, but he is my older brother, pushing 60
was a good player in his day, opened the batting for Bath Uni and Aylesbury, netted with Somerset when they had Richards, Botham and Garner

you are very modest jblowe, some of us at nets could see technically you are, or certainly have been,  a very good player in your heyday.

Lovely laver and wood too.
