correct to have those results in a year.

Looking alot better Simmy, but make sure you dont keep falling over to the off side when playing through the leg side. A massive problem i have had in the past. Aim to hit the ball straighter through the V and throw your head towards the ball, basically the rest will follow.

Just my opinion for what its worth as I used to have the same issue

I've seen alot of Simdog and that looks miles better. Just need to avoid getting caught on the walk but it's a promising start. You might even be able to play off your legs soon  :)

Improvement!

But I would say its due to mental discipline more than a technical one - given a few balls its hard to tell - but your making contact with more ball that are straight/leg side - good stuff

Well done.

You're doing what I call playing on the diagonal, missing out on the leg side is a clear sign of this.

Don't know what you've been working on, but it looks like your standing out side leg now? - this opens up the offside - it wont help on the leg side, in fact it can make it worst...

Few things to think about..., and as you're no spring chicken [:-)], I'll try and link tactics to technique too.

Maybe think about setting up to be strong on the off side, and give up some of the leg side, guess that you're going to be playing at a standard where the bowlers are unlikely to be able to bowl consistently at your legs, even if they work you out - so you might score more runs over the longer period...

Linked to the above, you don't hit any thing straight, not even on the off side - this is also why you find it hard to hit through leg side, you hands, head and body and feet are going side ways - have a look at where you back foot ends up - its often out side leg stump, or more leg side than where it started, that because you are shaping to hit through the covers. You need to try and come back toward the bowler, forward, but also at the bowler.

Maybe go back to middle and work on keeping the back foot fixed, just behind the popping crease - it will move a bit naturally, so don't fixate on this, but from this set up look at playing much straighter - you'll still be able to get your hands through at balls on the off side, but you might be able to open up the v a bit - I would say go for a checked drive, as straight as possible, look for "firmness", not power, control the shot with the arm and shoulders, don't try to smash it and swing your whole body at the ball..... and remember, if the ball goes square, that's fine too, its a win win.

but well done mate, and keep sticking at it.

It hard to explain this all in words only... there are a few other things, but I've lost interest now, I'm not your personal bloody coach mate!!!

Good work, keep it up.

think you must use the same balls as us, those yellow ones are horrible! floaty buggers!

I too struggle off my pads so I empathize with you, just keep working at it and it comes, when you start getting frustrated then stop and go to a more comfortable shot, then go back. That helped me after a few strops in nets last year, cool off and get the confidence flowing then go back.

had another look and your head is falling over when the ball is on your pads, that to me is the main reason you are missing the legside shots. When it's slightly straighter you head is already in line with the ball. Have a look at 24 or 32/33 seconds for an example. Instinct is telling you to plonk your front foot across the stumps and crouch when actually you need to keep both where they are and if anything move your back foot across to open up the legside. Not the best example but these videos give you an idea:-

Looks good simmy. I would just try opening up the front foot slightly so your toe is pointing to cover rather than point. This should help you hit the leg stump ball straighter. Just practice hitting that leg stump ball through mid on.

cheers for all that mate...

the bit about being stronger on my offside.. this is the whole reason i am doing this as i hit pretty much everything through the offiside and everything on my legs i miss out on .

i do hit 90% of my runs over the top of cover or mid off

and ur right i do try and generate to much power in my whole body rather than letting the power coming through my arms..

i found alot of my cover drives where i was hitting the ball my bottom right arm is locked in a straight position instead of keeping them in a V :)

plently of things to work on

maybe its just me, but in that 1st video she is moving her foot before the ball is even bowled? I've always been told to play each ball as its own but she seems to be falling into the trap of knowing exactly where the balls going coz its the machine. doesn't that defeat the purpose a bit?

yeh i thought the same thing, she's set in position already, all thats missing is the swing of the bat
defeats the object, if it was that easy in a game, you'd score millions

KP does this to an extent. Watch a side on shot of him batting in the past 18 months or so, the toes on his front are pointing at the bowler before release, i tried this with terrible results a few weeks back on the machine, gave me no chance to do anything with the short ball, then again, KP is better than me :)

I think its more the fact she's basically already set to play the drive, front foot planted and ready
whereas KP may be slightly different, thats probably his trigger, looking to be positive and get forward

True, I tend to dig a shorter one in during a coaching session if I spot someone doing this. Couple of BOLA balls in the nads or ribs cuts this behaviour out!

I did think KP as soon as I watched the video though.
