We all do it... Look forward to playing away somewhere that has memorable cricket teas.
But who has the best and why?
Also who has the worst and why? Be interesting if some of us think the same, or you think another forum members club fits either of these
-
We played a game where the opposition's skipper was an owner of a Domnios franchise so the tea was just a load of Domnios pizza. We didn't move to well in the field after that. :D
-
We play a team on a Sunday in London, name is something to do with Ford cos it was a Ford factory team or something.
Their teas include a couple of bags of crisps, enough sandwiches for about 12 people whove just eaten a roast dinner, and a chocolate roll or 2.
Legendary among my team
-
This is something that I am very serious and passionate about.
Nothing worse than slogging around in the field on a 35 degree day and coming off at tea to find 10 sandwiches and some warm watermelon/oranges.
-
Best I had was sleaford. Sandwiches, pork pie, sausage roll, hot onion barges, samosas and spring rolls, cocktail sausages, quiche, pizza crisps chips, cakes bought and home made. Enough to feed a nation of cricketers.
Only thing missing was chicken dippers and pink wafers, our team goes nuts for pink wafers.
-
My fav so far: icecream with topping, pilelets with whipped cream and strawberries, hot dogs, chocolate cake, lemon cake, muffins, roast chicken and avacodo sandwiches. Bunch of other stuff aswell.
Unfortunately i wasn't able to pig out, was in the middle of a grueling innings :(
-
The best ones I've had have all been village clubs who do it the old fashioned way - Bledlow, Duncombe Park, WGP. Worst, there are many in the Home Counties - Maidenhead & Bray's were a disgrace a few years back, and the "big" clubs like BA and Slough tend to produce pretty average offerings (ie nothing you'd want to eat)
-
We had 22 prepack sandwiches from the local tesco express and a 12 pack multipack of crisps once which was pretty shocking! That guy will never be allowed to forget it
-
My old club used to put on a great spread! They got a bit of a reputation for amazing lunches, he's a picture of a few of them. If you ever get a chance to play for Alveley CC in the worcs league, then do it - just for the lunches and bathams on the bar.

If anyone is in the Dorset leagues and has to play Poole, at Poole Park, Fear not as Subway is just across the road!
The teas there are dreadful, The players know they are awful!
If you play their 4ths though, you are in for a treat! One of their players is a baker!
-
Hope I don't get slapped down for this, but if you are south-london based and do have trouble sorting that essential centrepiece of any cricket tea - the cake - these girls are worth contacting. I highly recommend the Red Velvet. They would probably be able to do an entire tea as well, but I can only vouch for the cakes - as can my waisteline. :(

-
Bit different!
-
How could you possibly get slapped down for recommending a place to buy cakes??!! :o :D
they look good!
-
No doubt - just not sure how many clubs can afford to buy in teas that way!!!

I know - I just posted it in case a team found themselves in a bit of a pickle (did you see what I did there?) and needed to 'buy one in' in an emergency.

Best teas;
Army home ground at Aldershot.
Guards cricket, Burton Court.
-
Actualy, I forgot one of my favourites - Buzz's own Bank Of England and their full cream teas! ;)

what :o :o :o :o :o - our teas are the worst in the league by miles!!!!!!

Our teas at Cheam are horrendous, the best locally are either Beddington or Banstead

Prior to commencement of the game each player has to pay around 6.30 GBP ($10 CAD) which is ball fee and lunch fee. However, you can't opt out for latter one.
It depends on the day but last season I just played four games so my current club would order Biryani (on home games), Somosas (intra-club Twenty20 games) and pizza on away games. I'm cautious over what I eat as a Muslim so I do refrain from most of appetite when I'm not convinced with it being Halal.
-
what :o :o :o :o :o - our teas are the worst in the league by miles!!!!!!
least they're a bit different!
-
Each member of our team takes it in turn to make the teas each week. We are told to spend 30 pounds and the club pays back on the saturday. Last season I went all out when it was my turn and spent well over 60 pounds (including duck pancakes and hoisin sauce!). We were playing gloucester pakistanis and i was gutted to find out that they were on ramadam!!! 60+ quid on food for 11 players!

I can't even remember having teas when we played there 2 years ago! Can't have been anything special
-
Bournemouth Cricket Club teas, in the Dorset League, on the 2nd pitch are out of this world!
-
Once in a junior game, they had almost forgot about our teas and on that day there was three sandwiches per team. Of which I had a fifth of a sandwich, great considering we all had to pay £3.00 for our teas >:(

Wow, That Indian food being served by Tushar club is very tempting.

We spend about $300 per match to feed people...sometimes its local businesses othertimes its teammates in need of cash who can also cook very well that take that money and provide food, snacks(fruit & granola) and water for both teams...makes for a nice meal...

Thats a very good gesture.
Might pick it up this year.

Hear hear, they do a cracking tea! Owmby also do a wonderful tea, very fatty though : pizzas, hot dogs, cocktail sausages (actual sausages, not tiny ones!), chicken nuggets + dippers, everything!

Shoab68 let me refer you to our teas, you do not have to travel to North America, just Oxford.

300$ is a huge amount of money for a match tea. You guys are real food lovers. Nice gesture to give money for mates in need, Good work Tushar. Being an Indian, I really love the pic of that pure Indian veg food.
-
The teas at Thorpe Hesley in Rotherham were amazing. I hated batting first then having to keep with 2 ton of scones in my gut!
-
Lucky enough to get the best tea every home game in the leagues by a distance. Canners will be having a dabble this year, weather permitting
-
Tush, do you have lots of spectators to feed too?
-
Tush, do you have lots of spectators to feed too?
No mate just the players and if visiting team brings their WAGS we feed them as well. $300 is basically divided into $80 for drinks (mostly water bottles) & snacks (Apples, Bananas, granola bars) and $220 for about 30-35 meals including players from both teams, umps and any accompanying guests with the visiting team.
Although the pic i posted was from a 3 day 5 team tourament so our food budget & quantity was much higher for that.

That would be Ford sports, we play them and had a similar disappointing experience. In their defence they are stuck with having to use the general bar staff for their teas and were most apologetic, they didn't particuly enjoy the teas themselves.
-
Ah yes they're the ones. They never look happy with it either, I wouldn't be if it was my club!
-
I'm a big fan of the Teas at Upminster CC, although any tea that has pizza and pasta is fine with me.
The worst teas I've had were at the already mentioned Ford Sports and Barking CC.
Barking is particularly entertaining because if you don't like Egg and Chilli or mystery paste sandwiches then you ain't eating.

Upminster teas aint shabby. We used to play Eton Manor in the Sunday league before we pulled out, they were shocking!! All the sarnies had mould on them, frozen pizza not even seen the oven and raw.
-
This reminds me of a match about 10 years ago where we were at home. The guy nominated to do the tea did some usual fare - ham sarnies, sausage rolls, pepperoni pizza, beefy pasta - all well and good until we told him the oppo were vegetarians and the only non-meat options were tea and orange squash. He hastily ran home to knock up something and came back with the only vegetarian items he could find. The visitors weren't impressed with his pickled onion and tomato sauce sarnies.
-
When I played in one of the Middlesex league, the most loathed away fixture was North London Muslims. Most teams played in North West London, they played in Hackney, the pitch was hard to find and the teas were apparently crap and they took the mickey over what they charged for the teas
-
I wouldnt say it was the worst tea, but playing against Ilford a few years ago, it must of been around 90 degree's and they served up a madras curry. At least a few of us got runs
-

Maybe that's their tactic. Make the opposition incapable of playing so they win??

Nah, they normally just bring in a decent international or ex pro. At our place we just put too much out and hope to field first.
-
in the cambridgeshire league the eaton socon cc were very nice -the worst saffron walden 2nds cc big club that only care about there 1st team
my team weston colville cc do good teas that include chilli , curries and spaghetti bolognese

Barking we got a full blown home made curry and rice with Naan bread. I think the 2s later in the year got a plate of very average cakes and sandwiches so maybe it depends who's in the team as to whos Mrs does the food

Played at w'stow many times over the years. Last time we played there one of our players hit a six on to the roof of the houses opposite. Owner was far from impressed and called the police as he claimed it hit his head.

Thats happened twice in the 18 years i've been at the club, first time someone claimed it hit a roof tile which fell near him and wanted compensation the second time was the incident you mentioned. Both were told politely and formally where to go. We've been at Buck Walk for 102 years so they knew what was there when they moved in to the house.
Most of the residents are fine but the odd few do like a moan - they moan the conifer trees block out the light so they get the council to force us to trim them down by 15ft and then moan when the balls occasionaly clear the trees. :D
The one time i remember seeing your lot at our place was when i got back from a 4th XI game to catch the end of a 1s game between our clubs, Chris Drum was bowling possible the quickest deliveries i've ever seen in club cricket

I remember that game well. I opened up with Chris Drum that game and it was a lively track. Always had fond memories playing at the stow.
-
Yeah the old track was "interesting" in those days
-
Worst is star cc in Tottenham, £55 n not even a cup of tea or a seat! Soggy sandwiches n only curry as the other option!
Best Hawridge and Cholsbury just a phenomenal spread!

Best tea I've had was at the north Middlesex ground "The Pavilion"....
