Title: IPL 2013
Post by: The_Bird on February 04, 2013, 01:30:16 AM
So many aussies involved this year i count 13!!  Ponting and Clarke both bought and quite a few unsold. Finch, Bollinger, Wade, Paine all passed up and no place for any english player either although Owais Shah is bound to be carrying drinks for somebody.

He's a decent T20 cricketer, if a bit inconsistent. Can certainly hit a ball, and the IPL seems to pay overs for all-rounders.

That's just the auction I bet a few English lads have been retained like kp owais and Morgan

Oh yeah, Morgan has been carrying drinks for the last few years also, KP must've been retained as no mention of him.

he set the record for the fastest ever half-century in Australian interstate one day cricket, getting 50 runs off 19 balls. but looks like he comes off every now and then instead of warranting that sort of price. However this is the IPL where common sense goes out the window. Lets remember Dan Christian was bought for 900,000 dollars a few years back and could barely muster a run.

I'd take £50,000 + to carry drinks

Yeah good if you can get it. Another year of carrying drinks won't do Morgans England career very much good tho.

I suppose being around great players means he can learn as netting with the best players they might pass on tips etc

From what I've seen he's quite a swinger but can come off very good on his good days. Also seems to have a slightly big ego  ;).

The self proclaimed X-Factor in the Australia team!  >:(

So many second rate aussies in the IPL is ridiculous, Maxwell, Faulkner, Richardson, I think the teams must see the nationality and presume they are half decent because the aussies dominated for so long.

I think it's more down to volume of Aussie coaches so they pick there own

And the fact the Aussie season finishes just as the IPL starts

True a player available for whole tournament is more attractive than a player who can only play part of it as that is why Gayle was not picked up before then after the argument with West Indies rcb picked him up as he was available for more of tournament

I think Morgan has turned down the IPL this year to focus on FC cricket.

For anybody who's interested to see the IPL auction here it is in all it's glory. Very odd...

I d like to know how they justify the pricing.  MAxwell is hardly a world class player.  I would have thought a more established player would command a heftier price tag?  Any thoughts??

Does Maxwell's new franchise have anything to do with Shane Warne?

It was the same with Dan Christian a few years ago, I think he was even more than Maxwell and hadn't even played international cricket yet

IPL seems to be the place where fringe players can really make a name for themselves the likes of Sunil Narine were huge in the last edition. Looking forward to seeing the next big thing make an impression this year.

IPL is more glamour and entertaintment than cricket. So the prices depend on the players viewership, althought Maxwell is not a world class player still he is good allrounder. But i doubt he can justify the price :)

He was playing Southern league cricket last year, It baffles me how he is now getting paid this much!
