Just thought i would do a quick thread to see people's opinions. Dont really need to mention why just pick first your favourite from each pair. I know you may not have used each brand so just go with the gut feeling.
Just done 5 pairs to keep it simple.
Gray Nicolls vs Gunn & Moore
Salix vs Newbery
Scat vs Laver
H4L vs Willostix
Hunts County vs Kookaburra
-
GM
Salix
Laver
H4L
Kookaburra
-
Gray Nicolls
Not going to answer this one
Tough, but Laver
H4L
Tough one, I think Hunts county edges it for me
-
Go on there here is my worthless opinion.
GM - even though I would love a scoop.
Salix - the sorts top.it.
Scat - prefer the sticker design.
H4L - none contest
Hunts - childhood affection to it.
-
GM
Newbery
Laver
H4L
Kookaburra
-
GM
Salix
Laver - scats are way overpriced
H4L hands down
Kookaburra
-
GN
Salix
Laver
Willostix
Kookaburra
-
GM
Salix
Laver
H4L
Kookaburra
Snap, me too
-
Gray Nicolls.
Newbery.
Screaming Cat.
Hell4Leather.
Hunts County.
-
Some of these are really tough but I'll go:
Gray Nicolls
2 best bats I've owned were a salix pod and newbery uzi. Difficult to split as love both, but giving it to salix as their softs win it for me.
Laver but not used either
Have a willostix stick as current match bat, but have H4L 666 for this season. Not used it yet so will have to give a draw for this one.
kookaburra only as hunts county not what they were
-
GN
Salix
Scat
H4L
Kookaburra
-
Gray Nicolls - just class
Salix - Andrew had the good grace to call me personally and discuss the potential of us stocking Salix in the future. Newbery never replied to our enquiries. I also resent the way Newbery seem to be immune to the stick that GM receive for making bats with a CNC.
Scat vs Laver - Would love a bat made by Julian. I've only recently acquired a L&W. I'm not really in a position to comment on either brand yet. draw
H4L - Never seen any H4L gear in the flesh. Had a number of issues with Willostix though, so H4L wins.
Hunts County vs Kookaburra - Toughie, they are the closest brands geographically to us. Hunts was the brand of my youth but is on the wane as a brand. They are flourishing behind the scenes though, making bats for no end of smaller upstarts, i saw Sabre and Gecko when i was there last, but there's always a new brand every time i visit. Kooks is a brand ive never really used much, and i am not a big fan of the garish in your face decals of recent years. However, the Kahuna gear is just classic. Draw.
-
1. Too close to call - so draw!
2. Salix pips it due to impressive finishing
3. Three years ago, would have been Scat! But JM health has made me say Laver now
4. H4L are just too good!
5. Kookaburra

One question I'd like to know before casting a vote is did JM always source his part makes from India or did he used to press and handle his clefts himself? I read somewhere he used to travel overseas to press his clefts although not even sure if that is true.
-
GM - not a fan of Gray Nicolls
Salix - what a tough choice
Laver
Willostix
Hunts
-
Gray Nicolls vs Gunn & Moore - Neither
Salix vs Newbery - Salix
Scat vs Laver - SCat
H4L vs Willostix - H4L
Hunts County vs Kookaburra - Neither
-
Just to add, I would prefer a Puma to a GM, GN, Kook.
-
Loving the Salix love :D
Quite surprised the amount of people that have picked Hunts County over Kookaburra. Can't say I blame them as I prefer HC myself but just see so many Kook's about thought more would go with kook.
Keep going chaps.
Here is a few more
Puma vs Adidas
SS vs CA
SG vs SF
M&H vs Hawk
-
Puma vs Adidas - Puma (of course)
SS vs CA - SS
SG vs SF - SF
M&H vs Hawk - Hawk
-
neither really but Puma at a push
SS
SG
M&H
-
Puma vs Adidas - Neither. Would use a stump to bat ahead of either of these brands. Some of the top Puma bats are Rob Pack made i believe, but most are not. Softs of both brands (pads especially) are just ghastly.
SS vs CA - SS. My vast experience of repairing dozens of almost new CA bats tells me they don't last very long
SG vs SF - SG and SF softs are comparable with the very best. Not seen/used an SG bat but the SF bats we have in stock are absolute weapons!
M&H vs Hawk - Had a brief love affair with all the tan leather M&H softs, inc wk gear. Has to be M&H despite the high prices.
-
Adidas v Puma- The puma bionic i have is the best bat ive ever owned, though the adidas pads i have are also the best pads ive ever owned so draw
SS v CA- SS
SG v SF- Loved my sg i had
M&H v Hawk - Used both brands, love them both, draw
-

Here is a few more
Puma vs Adidas
SS vs CA
SG vs SF
M&H vs Hawk
Puma, CA, SF & undecided but most likely M&H
-
To do the whole lot i would say,
Gray nicholls
Newbury loved my uncles mjolnir players
Has to be a draw as i would love one of each between Scat and Laver
H4L for me
Kookaburra has to be solely for one bat The Bubble, please please bring this monster back
Puma instead of Adidas
SS
Close as i would like to try an SG bat
and MandH
-
GN, Salix/Newberry(cant decide), Laver, H4L, Kookaburra, Puma but not a fan of either, SS, SG, MandH.
-
Dam I forgot about the bubble..great bat.
Right onto the next lot.
Adidas - my fav sports brand in general. The copious trainers I have says it all. But puma have the better cricket gear.
SS - bit of Ton branding.
SG - tight one.
M&H - ultimate class
-
GN
Salix
Laver + Scat = draw never had either!
H4L
Kookaburra
-
Gray Nicolls
Salix
Scat
H4L
Kookaburra
-
Puma
CA
SF
M&H
-
Gray Nicolls - Never got on with GMs
Salix - Just beautiful
Laver - Simply prefer them to the SCATs
H4L - English made, and lovely bats, although the Willostix Spitfire is also a beauty
Hunts County - As long as it was made by Tony for me
Puma - as long as it was made by RP for me!
CA - While the SS I've used was brilliant, the CA 5000 I inherited from a friend is hands down amazing...
SG - Then I've covered both Kook and SG with the one selection
M&H - always liked the S6
-
GM
Salix
Laver
H4L
Kookaburra Hunts County
puma (robert Pack)
SS (one of the pro issue bats... mmm very special)
SG (hunts replace Kook and to get the SG stuff...)
M&H
-
GM
Salix
Laver - scats are way overpriced
H4L hands down
Kookaburra
Puma-following general consensus of: as long as it was made by RP
SS
SG-same as kookaburra really
M&H-although very pricey they are top bats
-
GM
Newbery
Laver
H4L
Hunts Conty
-
Gray Nics
Newbery
Either one of Scat or Laver
H4L
Kooks
Puma
SS
SG
M and H
-
GN
Salix better finish more personal touches
Neither both overpriced and no better than you can get for a 1/3 of the price
H4l based on reviews not many bad ones at all
Hunts because I have had one made there and was a belter
Neither not a fan of either
Ss all day long big fan of the special bats were getting at the minute and quality softs not used many ca not owned one either poor softs though compaired to ss
Equal kit looks identical but not overly keen on some sg shapes I have seen
Hawk used a few in the main decent
-
Gray Nics - had them as a kid and not a huge fan of GM (played with both)
Salix - simply ooze class (never used Salix or Newbury)
Laver - see above re; class, scat stickers are a bit too garish for me (wish I had used them)
Don't know much about either, draw
Kookaburra all the way, played with both
Puma (RP only though)
SS
SG
Hawk
-
Gray Nicolls vs Gunn & Moore - Not an easy one for me, the only GM i had snapped after 5 games and I've never used a GN.
Salix vs Newbery - Salix, love their softs and bats.
Scat vs Laver - SCAT , never used on but i wasn't a massive fan of the LW i had, was a little too hard.
H4L vs Willostix - H4L, Matt's pressing is top notch so that's an easy one.
Hunts County vs Kookaburra - Kook, loved hunts of old but think most are imported now. Kook bats are good but the softs and bag i had fell to pieces
