Title: a very special Vantage bat - Updated pictures!
Post by: scottish_slogger95 on February 05, 2013, 08:37:28 PM
Here's my review for my new Vantage that I fell in love with at the forum net at lords a week or two ago

After thinking I'd never like this bat as it was 2.13 I was proven wrong after picking it up and giving it a waft at the side of the net in Lords. The pick up was insanely good, It honestly feels like a 2.11 in the hands. I was so suprised. This gave me the feeling that I had to take it down with along with the four other bats I had to test during the net. The other four were a : Vatage 2013 newbery tour sort of profile that had a little spine but not much, Hammer Vapen, Dynadrive,Laver & wood special reserve and Vantage t20

Out of all of them the Vantage distinction bat just stuck out like a sore thumb out of the rest due to its sheer power and pick up of the bat. It really was a truly special bat I was playing with

After I came out of my batting session I just had one thing on my mind. I want that bat! I think I may have annoyed mattw a lot by asking him to buy it on the night!

Also I thought that it was impressive that Matt got his bat maker Dan to use a normal cleft for this bat unlike the M&H distinction that is an oversized cleft.

I urge anyone to buy one of these when they are released as they are a truly special pieces of willow. After using vantages bats It's seriously changed my opinion on Vantage they are seriously awesome bats

So after a few weeks of him getting it ready for one of Vantages 2013 bat he finally posted it. Well here it is

Yeh mate we will have to catch up on live over the weekend or next week whatever. Grains look great aswell. How does it perform of the mallet compared to your old H4L

yeah man will do, the vantage clinches the performance title due to having the longer middle and the higher spine at the sweetspot. But its almost new so it still needs to open up and it probably needs a bit more knocking in too

Yeh, to be honest I think I like that profile better than a distinction and tempo as the edges seem a bit bigger whilst maintaining the high spine!

You should get one mate, they really are special bats. Worth every penny.

The edges are a bit bigger but not like a huge difference between the distinction and tempo but you can see the difference (we compared it to a tempo at the forum net)

Whilst it's a beauty, with great rebound, I really didn't like the puck up. Just goes to show we're all different i guess! Hope you score loads of runs with it.

My Tempo is 30mm on the edge and is just under 2'12, I was under the impression this was a similar weight and edge was 28mm?, so very similar. I think a Distinction edge profile is 25mm in most cases. It really depends on the weight of the bat you are comparing it to.

does look like it might have been better made from an overized cleft though?

the facebook pictures give a better look at the profile. Think it works pretty well. May not appear quite as big as the oversized clefts but not everybody can lift 2'12 and a 2'9 version would work pretty well on a standard cleft with perhaps a slightly smaller edge profile. Nice to see batmakers giving a modern twist to a classic profile, going for a more balanced stick ie. more powerful middle but still a decent edge profile

I do recall this bat from the Lords net.

It was beautifully finished and crafted. A great bat.

Pick-up was very nicely balanced.
You've got a belter there.
