Thought I'd post some pictures of a couple of bats I've been working on last sunday. Both are similar profiles with one having a higher middle.
Both bats will be 2.9oz dressed

We're down the pecking order now tommo as these pros take priority I hear ;)
-
Exactly, sorry guys :D
I'm aiming to get most of them shaped this weekend (hopefully finished), as well as pick up more willow, finish my refurbs/ repairs as well as make a new sanding drum.
Busy week ahead.
-
Looking amazing Ryan! I've gotta learn podshave like this! I will hopefully have time over the Summer to tidy out our garage and try shaping some bats! 8)

He knows I'm pulling his leg haha, I'm in no rush I seem to have acquired to much willow again -.-
-
Nothing wrong with a little willow wilkie. More coming tomorrow...not enough time in the day lol
-
Is it strange I spend more time looking at the tools on your bench than the bat? Everyone else always looks cleaner and more organised than me.
Nice looking bat by the way. I always find it amazing how when you finally grip the bat it makes the profile look different again somehow.
-
I see two bats?
-
I think you can say "made" Ryan!

I'm the same, love my tools and have a thing for old fashioned wooden planes :(

Cheers mate, only thing I don't or can't do is pressing...hopefully that will change in the next year or so. Need to make more space and save some cash first.
-
Looking forward to that mate, you can become a clef supplier then!
-
Lovely bats Ryan some real beauties in there!
-
Cheers guys. This one is just about finished. Current 2.9oz but needs sanding etc. Should be around 2.9/2.9.5oz gripped.

Lovely Ryan just lovely some right makers knocking around for sure
How long does the whole process of making one bay take you
-
It all depends as I've got the splice them, fit the handles, leave the glue to set then come back to them and shape, sand, finish and then sticker etc. But maybe 3/4 hours a bat. But I like to take my time and get them perfect.
-
That one looks rather tasty mate :)
-
Mate they look stunning it all all bodes why pay 300 plus when we have such makers on here top mate really top stuff
-
That's a gorgeous shape Ryan. Cannot wait to see mine now! The 24th is going to take ages to come around :(! I'll have a nice little softpocket ready for her!

yes mate shame to hide the hard work you have put in when splicing and handling them in the first place...less is more ;)
-
Superb work again you tap dancing genius! Like those stickers too!
-
Love the current stickers , simply elegant !.
-
Stickers and bat look quality. What weight was the finished bat?
And, more importantly, how big are the edges? ;)

It ended up being 2.9.10oz so basically 2.10oz finished. I think the edges were 35mm and spine 55mm. It's quite thick at the toe and shoulders too.
Picks up lovely though.
-
Whats the going rate for one of your bats Ryan? :)
-
Thought I'd update with a couple of pictures finished.

Great profile! well done mate.
Is it a higher middle bat?
-
Yes, the guy I've made it for wanted a mid, middle round about 180-200mm so that's what he's got.
-
a rough panoramic pic of ryans work shop lol
i moved my photo position so it went a bit wrong

whats wrong with a big body and tiny head? :D
-
received 2 bats from Ryan earlier in the week and very impressed with both. They need knocking in yet but they both feel great tapping up a ball and off the mallet.
I sent up my match bat for Ryan to make a copy of an the end result is very good. Couple of pics below of it.

-
Looks a cracker Tom! Still waiting for mine, but I know he's a busy man with lots of sticks to make, so I told him to leave mine till the important ones are out of the way
-
yeah great shape, told ryan looks werent of concern to me cosmetically on a bat when it comes to my own sticks as its not like im trying to sell them!
going to get it knocked in and ease it into action towards the end of our indoor nets with any luck as we have 6 weeks left still.
-
Thanks for adding the pictures tom.
-
thats ok mate, will get the other ones sorted out when i get time as got to sticker it up and stamp it yet!! Busy week on the work front
-
Look forward to seeing them both stickered up.
-
looks lovely finished that scat copy! tom work pal :D
-
Both of these bats look brilliant. Props to your skills!

That's a really useful visual indication. I favour a 2.9, but I've picked up a cheap 2.12 just to see what difference it makes - judging by this photo, quite a lot.
Looking back through the thread your work is amazing. What was your background, if you don't mind me asking.
Cheers.

I think seeing 2oz of willow shavings might be useful for people to understand what has to be removed from a bat to make something go from 2lbs 10 to 2lbs 8
this is a great help for people, I think
-
good idea buzz!
might be hard to do tho.. unless we get a box get the weight of it set it to 0 and then put the shavings in lol
-
Maybe measure it in square cm (or ft!) of Laver Carpet?!
-

Here you go, 2oz. Just shows how much willow it physically is.

-
Hope you remembered to tare the scales ;)

Also finished this one off today. Anyone want to guess the weight?

2'6-2'7 ?
-
Is that a laver copy looks like a laver toe Ryan
Or is it the camera angle and a whale fin toe
-

Think it's the camera angle Dave.
-
2'6-2'7 ?
Nope, lighter!
-
I guess as it hasn't been binded, gripped or stickered about 2.3-2.4 with a finished weight of 2.8-2.9
-
Can we have a toe upwards shot
-
I only took that one, I'll post some more pictures tomorrow.
-

It's quite clear from the picture that its no binded, gripped, stickered etc.
Binding/ gripping and stickers only add around 2/3oz depending on grip style.
-
2 3 :S ?
-
(http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Kelsallcustombats/IMG-20130228-WA0002_zpsc7327489.jpg)

WOW that looks huge for the weight, whats the size of the edge and spine profile as a rough estimate for its size ?
-
holy (No Swearing Please) thats incredible for the weight!
-
30mm edges and 50mm spine.
It was a very lightweight cleft to start with btw.
-
P.s it should be 2.7oz once dressed and gripped.
-
how much concaving ? it doesnt look to clear from the picture :)
-
Like I said earlier I'll post some "toe up" pictures tomorrow.
-
oh yeah sorry , missed that
-
