This bat is the one Dean had in the for sale section a while back. He had a few sticks in his bag for us all to have a go with at the Shrewsbury net, so I decided to take a punt on this butterfly bat that was rejected by Mr Fisher. Mr Fisher was mad for rejecting this, it's an absolute cannon lol.
Used this in 3/4 nets now and it's sounding very nice.
I was a bit dubious of what it would be like when I bought it, admittedly I normally like a clean blade with around 8-10 grains. But this has really changed my mind on blemished/stained bats. It's not all about the grains and clean blades if you want something to perform. I think this is only going to get better. Goes extremely well in the nets as I say, forgiving middle, and a nice pick up
Weight is 2'9 3/4,
Mid middle does extend quite low which the profile doesn't suggest.
36mm edge at the highest point 56/57mm spine
5/6 grains with a big ass butterfly stain around the middle of the blade, and one on the back of the toe.
Was finished extremely well too, even though it had been floating around in Dean's bag for a while.
Will definitely be in the bag for match days next year.
Apologies the pictures aren't the best

Haven't got a white snake grip dude, and having a shock absorba on it doesn't feel right for some reason!
It is a gun though lol, need to thank Dean for it, so thought I'd give a little review.

Looking forward to using this again tonight, top stick and will be difficult to choose what I'm going to use next year with this beauty and the H4L.
Not to mention the copy of the H4L off Ryan

Ivegot a Butterfly Hellfire and that goes like stink as well!
-
JS Wright have some interesting things to say about butterfly marks - all good.
-
They do go extremely well, and it shouldn't really come as a surprise given that butterfly stains have superior strength. Mines a worldy lol
-
my last 4 bats have been butterfly willow tuff as old boots one of them is 4 years old ;)
-
I had a gm apex with a large butterfly stain just below the middle and it flew in that area. The willow was much harder and it sounded a bit odd when it hit there but it really went.

Here is warsops opinion of butterfly bats;
'The Butterfly is only available in adult sizes and is made from a special type of timber found in about 1% of cleft supplied. There are distinctive 'Butterfly' Markings on the blade. The timber is more suitable for the harder hitting player, i.e. offering a more resilient timber. A traditional shape with warsops famous red and black transfers and special Butterfly Logo. As with all our bats, it is made from Grade A Timber providing top quality bats for all levels of cricket'

we dont grade it as A . also hes bit hard to start with but onces they get going they sounnd and go sweet

I think the warsop grading relates to the mcc rules. All their bats can be used in proper cricket!

We use A ie for bats pros would use but with bats with the tsi its B even thow the tsi makes no diffents to how the bat plays

Right, but a grade a bat isn't necessarily one made of grade 1 willow. Ot just means a pro can use it.
-
Reading this thread has opened my eyes to butterfly stains. My GM Epic has a butterfly stain and was worried about the performance.
Are there any downsides to butterfly stains except the asthetics?
-
Just looks diffent and its bit stronger in my eyes

Grade A bat is surely just the rules that are made for the international/professional players bats that most bat company's abide by? As Dean said there bats are Grade A, which refers to the point that his pro's use the bats. The only bat's that are Grade B are the ones with the TSI in.
Adidas sticker there low end bats with a Grade A sticker, and I'm in no doubt they aren't grade one willow.
Either way this bat's a cannon, it does sound a bit hard but it flies, and hopefully as it opens up it'll get better

Grade A, B and C is different from Grade 1, 2 and 3
Grade A etc refers to the laws of cricket and what bats are allowable at what levels
G1, 2, 3 etc refers to the cleanliness of the willow cleft face as frequently initially shown Wrights grading
-
I know that Buzz, that's what I was trying to say in my post, but you've hit the nail straight on the head with that lol.

True.. Now... But in the past grade A referred to the quality of the willow and as The_Bird was quoting off Warsops website they say "Grade A Timber" which to me means they are referring to the willow grading.

I think the point we were making is that the statement on Warsop's site is dumb as it doesn't tie in with either the MCC or Wright's definition.
-
You see - when a butterfly flaps its wings, it really does start a hurricane!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
I think Tim has a Butterfly tramp stamp ;) :D

Nice information, the FAQ section answers most of the question raised,
