Title: Halo headband
Post by: fasteddie on February 18, 2013, 02:15:55 PM
Ok, so I am a kit monster and can't resist that new bit of gucci, shiny, kit for my bag.

When I saw a mention of this I just had to go out and get one. But 1 wasn't going to suffice, so I got two.

I bought a red tie headband and a white superwide pull over headband.

Am going to try them tonight at the Forum net at Lords, no-one laugh ok!

Actually as a glasses wearer who sweats like the accused, I need something like this to stop my gegs getting soaked.

I'll do a review (for anyone who gives a damn) tomorrow.

Has anyone else got one of these or am I (once again) ploughing a lonely furrow?

You've talked me into it Matt - I've been looking for something like these to keep my unfashionably long locks out of my eyes!

I've got a couple! The best purchase I made before the start of last season. They fit nicely under a helmet as they are so thin, they divert the sweat away from your eyes and they are extremely comfortable. For me they are easily the best headbands on the market. Let us know how you get on..... :)

Don't know about headbands, but tonight i am going to attempt to use a sidearm so that i too can bowl wide of the stumps with little control...

Why don't they do them in a 'skull an cross bones' design!!!!

Whats different to these that makes them better than a £3 nike sweatband from sportdirect?

it has a strip above the eye line to stop the sweat running into your eyes, also the material is similar to neoprene with a cotton outer.

Also they look amazing!

I wore the red tied one tonight.

It worked a treat.

I'd definitely recommend them. I wear gegs and didn't get a drop of sweat on them.

Pile in chaps.

After a few wild ones, started to get the hang of the sidearm. Got it swinging massively (not entirely sure how, but never mind) and the leg breaks were awesome!

Why don't they do a dark green one?!? First world problems!

The way I bat I should get a white one with a 'divine wind' logo on the front.  :D

Glad it did the job! I find they're much better than the old towelling ones........

How?!?!?!  ???

All I can manage are head high full tosses........ I've had a sidearm for nearly 18 months now and I am still no closer to not actually maiming a teammate!

Just watched Goochie's instruction Video. It made sense, so I used it in the net like he shows. Reckon I could get seam up/swinging ones to go at about 65-70mph if I tried.

I'd say practice, but I've been chucking dog balls from something similar for years. Eddie, go fetch ;)

When I used my side arm, I would bowl off of about 20-18 yards, and really walk into the motion of doing it.

Not more practice! Damn! Why can't I just be naturally good at something??  :D

Thanks Tim, I'll check out his video....

If I stand 18-20 yards away from the batsman I will definitely kill him.  ;) I'll try the walking into it bit though...thanks!

Yes, Goochie's advice is walk into it, and bowl from the popping crease, making sure you extend your arm to full height and follow through. Also worth making sure you use the grip he has as that helps too. It's kind of like a slowish bowling action.

Currently it's the batsman who is 'following through'!!

Thanks chaps, I'll give it a go, got a net with Pete and hopefully Brucie coming up so I'll try it out on them...

From the batsmen's perspecitve, it helps if the 'bowler' takes a couple of steps and then releases. Otherwise you could get your triggers all wrong.
I only face a slack handful from Tim but could get the hang of facing them.

@Tim; I did prefer facing your 'back of a length swingers!'

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but wanted to sing the praises of the Halo headband. In my 1st indoor session I was sweating like a (*insert inappropriate term here) so bought the superwide tie headband and this week did an hour-long session in the same conditions and didn't have to take off the lid once to mop my brow. Wholeheartedly recommended.

Actually credit where credit is due........I purchased one of these Halo bands as the last 5 minutes of every net has involved me wiping the sweat away!
So at the recommendation of Pedals, I got one and have used it in 3 nets now. It's done a great job and I haven't had the sweat-in-eyes problem since. I will get a spare next month to add to my kitbag  8)

Resurrecting an old one here as I sweated buckets under my helmet yesterday in the heat. How are these headbands holding up after a bit of use, would you still recommend them?

I was just about to order one but they've sold out of white, thinking about it black would probably be better anyway unless they stick out from under the helmet a lot?

still going well - still no worries with the sweat-in-eyes!
I would give one a go!

I have navy blue one so dark colours are better!!

Just to echo what's already been said.. Halo headbands are the 'nuts'.. ingenious solution with the bar to keep sweat out of the eyes under a lid... if you don't already have one then get one...

Cheers, I'll order one today - they seem to have a new version with a velcro closure so I might have a look at that one.

I've used the halo headband a couple of times now and it's great. I sweat loads and over the weekend when it was warm it helped a lot.

Definitely worth the money and I'd recommend them.

I was tempted to get one of these untill I saw a player use one take it off and it had left an indentation across his forehead where the sweat strip had been.
Not sure I'd want to go out on the town after a game with a big straight indentation across my forehead + ribbing from teammates

I got one of these as well and I can say that it's made a big difference while batting.  I used to struggle on hot days due to sweat dripping in my eyes, but now it's significantly reduced - although I think it may be due a wash!!

The 'dent' goes away quickly enough, although the stick from team mates takes a bit longer!
