I'm thinking about getting an iPad to help me with instant video analysis of one-ones and coaching sessions.
a) Can any-one tell me if they have used them for similair and are they any good for that use,
b) are there any decent coaching apps that would assist me further, and I don't want that stupid pace calculator app that will tell every-one they're bowling at 112mph,
c) are there any cheaper alternatives that do a similair job, I literally want it just as a video analysis/coaching app that might go on the internet occasionally.
Cheers guys :D

I have 2 ipads (get me!!)
The only thing that springs to mind immediately is that they don't support Flash!!!
-
OK mate thanks, and what does that mean.... I'm not a complete technophobe but why would that matter to me?
-
I have a blackberry playbook that does this job perfectly when coaching in the net.
Camera and Video are excellent quality, and the big advantage over the iPad (though not the ipad mini) is it is small enough to just about hold in one hand, so you can point to specifics on the screen during playback with your free hand.
Another huge consideration is the price, they are dirt cheap as Blackberry haven't sold anywhere near as many as expected.
I have a mount that fixes to the bowling machine (behind the perpex screen!) which is brilliant too, these are available for ipads and most other tablets too though.

The most commonly supported format for embedding videos and other content into a website is flash.
On an ipad, when you visit for example bbc news (though i believe they are now ipad friendly) the videos that are on the website are not viewable.
-
it just means that you could not show any video content that was created using Adobe flash,it may well not matter in this case..
Reckon the best advice will come from those that actually coach and use similar technology...like the guys @ Vitas!(see above advice)
-
think I will leave this to you guys (Rob/Jake) !!!

I would love to come for a net and a session mate! Shame I live bloody miles away from you though. Wouldn't mind having a sniff round the shop :(

Nick, Ipads are great, I love using my girlfriends, easy, simple, lots of apps. However, I spent my own money on a Samsung 10.1 tab! Almost half the price, does everything the ipad does (quicker in most cases) looks just as nice, still got loads of apps and syncs with my PC and phone far better.
Great deals to be had on them too.....
If you can go a little smaller then even the Nexus and Samsung 'little' tabs will work just as well and you can save even more money.....
-
I was just going to say it would be worth looking at smaller options like the google nexus and kindle fire hd. Far cheaper than an iPad but I'm not sure what quality of camera they have.
I do have an iPad and its great but you might be able to get away with something cheaper.

Welcome anytime. Long distance travellers usually bag themselves a free net if they buy any gear. ;)

I have been trying to get into using my iPad for coaching, I've got as far as turning my training plans into PDF's and putting them on there. Also working on formulating a spreadsheet to keep score on there.
You can review the video straight away on the standard photo's app. You can also download iMovie, which is the video editing software. I have only used this on my Mac so not sure how it works on an iPad yet. But you can cut stuff out and edit it, Slow it down etc. I'd say the iPad mini would be good as its small and lightweight, but it doesn't have as good a battery as the iPad 4. The retina display on the big iPad (4) would be good for viewing the video back. I'd go for a large capacity one, pictures and video will soon fill up a 16GB. I'd also buy the 3G enabled one so you are always connected where ever you go.
I had a BlackBerry PlayBook, it was alright, but you wouldn't have the software capabilities of the iPad. Also, compared to my iPad 2 the BB PB was so laggy, and sometimes just refused to work.
Also, I don't find the lack of flash a problem. Apple are such a big driving force in technology that websites are moving to accommodate non flash devices

There are apps that will cover scoring like natwest crichq - I think it may even link to play cricket but not sure.
-
I've tried that natwest app, its a pain! You have to complete set up the game, enter in both teams in full before the start and its a lot of hassle. Especially when I would just want to score a practice match.
-
Try Total cricket scorer. I've got it on the laptop and on the Ipad and it's dead easy. Yeah you need to imput the teams at the start but then most people either have team sheets or if it's a training game will know the players.. If you don't know them just stick 'unknown' in :)

Could be a good shout for early April mate if I get enough people together. I'm Shrewsbury based

My coach had his ipad linked up to a high definition camera, which he positioned in different places. It showed up a tiny trigger movement I had of moving my back leg forward a tiny bit and bending my knee causing the pad to get in way of my bat.
It was ace to be able to just open up the video there and then and look at the videos.
The camera was one of those little ones I have seen on ski helmets etc. No idea of the cost but the system was brilliant.

I use my ipad with Cricket Coach Plus which does a good job. Anyone else used this?
-
Nick I'm happy to download that Cricket Coach plus app and bring my iPad if you book a net for an hour ;)

Is it worth the £5?
