Title: Of course, the other thing you can do if your missus is away is....

This is now finished and weighs in at 2lb 11.6oz, so it's a usable weight. I'm happy with the shape although I may have not quite got it even, and it's finished reasonably well!

That is a superb profile !. Was it based on any other bat profile or an entirely new profile ?.

I was gonna say that as well! What a (No Swearing Please) monster! Great effort mate, you've obviously put a lot of time and effort into getting how you want it.

I started with one of the clefts that Peplow was selling, which had been copy lathed into quite a different, and concaved shape. This meant using the Drawknife on it was pretty tricky.

The things that I found hardest were getting used to how the drawknife worked with the willow and keeping it sharp enough, shaping the handle and the weight reducing concaving, as I couldn't get on with the travisher, and ended up breaking the round bottom one that I had.

You think its going to be relatively easy, but actually getting used to how the tools work with the willow, and the difficulties of doing "little" things is surprising. Also finding somewhere solid enough to attach the bat to whil eyou shave it with the knife is a pain in the butt!

Post by: tim2000s on March 18, 2013, 11:16:11 AM: Took the "Pendle" to nets yesterday for the first use against proper balls and real bowlers. I was very impressed. It does at least feel like it has a long middle (which is what I was after). Fired a full toss back past the bowlers head with a lovely sharp crack off the bat. no trouble with yorkers on the toe, and best of all, no vibrations.

The pressing is superb, but the, that's down to Matt at H4L and nothing to do with me.

If anything, I think the handle is a little short as I found myself with my top hand having a quarter hanging off the top of the bat, which is a pity.

Certainly caused plenty of mirth when I was explaining to people that I'd made the bat. They were certainly surprised!
