Right so seen as work has been pretty slow today, I have been say watching reviews on cricket bats, reading reviews, reading topics etc, and it seems to me that one of the first questions anyone gets asked or the first topic someone covers when doing a review is edge size.
Is it just me that actually couldn't care less about the Egde size of a bat? Because I don't know about everyone else but I don't aim to use the edges of my bat :/ it the LAST thing I'd consider and yet the first 80% of people mention

I have to agree, i don't care what the edge/ spine size as long as i like the pickup etc. Pickup and handle are far more important for me.

Personally, I don't mind concaving but that's because I use 2.6-2.8 bats depending on pick up. But surely it's just logic that if say to a bat maker I want 'X' size of edge all you're doing is taking weight out of the playing area

Edge size has never interested me that much, I'm far more interested in the height of the spine. Mind you, my CF has a fairly unimpressive spine, not massive edges (30mm??) and it's brilliant. So maybe it's all a visual thing?
For my next bat I'm just going to go to the batmaker and tell him to make me an awesome bat that picks up how I want. I'm not going to specify anything...I'm interested to see what I end up with!

My pointers.
1a. See bat
1b. See how the bat picks up.
2. How far the little red thing goes after hitting it with the big wooden thing.
3. Do I want to touch my genitals after performing no2??
4. If the answer to 3 is yes proceed to purchase. If the answer is no return to 1a and repeat

If you look at a bat and don't like the look you already have a weakened confidence of it. If you take the time to pick it up, get the feel and give it a use this may be turned around.
I wasn't fussed on edge size, but now I like a thick edge at the toe as otherwise I have a niggling thought in the back of my mind a yorker will break the toe. My laver has a thick toe, it affects pick up slightly but I have no worries about breaking the toe when using it.

I've been banging on about this for ages. The edge size obsession is bizarre and it's another trend that will lose momentum eventually. If I miss the middle it's my own fault.
Does the bat have a good middle and balance? If yes then buy it. DONE!

I don't mind edge size just like big imposing profile and as little concaving as possible as I like meat
I'd happily sacrifice edge size to do without concaving
