Just my opinion mate and I mean no offence in my opinion Woodstock are a joke, at best I believe he just shapes bats that are already 90% done and claims to have a handmade company, the pics on his website seem to show the best and only tool he has is a decent drill with some attachments.
I saw him at the lords expo a few months ago and I was with a bat maker myself when I asked him to explain what he does and how he shapes etc he just walked away and left me to talk to someone who basically just told me how good they were but could give no real context to his statement. If you want a custom bat and want to see it handmade etc there are quite a few options in that part of the world.

As I said that is just my opinion but to me they are one company I would not use ever, just because they in my opinion are selling themselves as something they are not.  If you can get photo's of a press, machining equipment,,drum sanders and you actually see him making your bat from the cleft then I will change my opinion but I'm afraid I doubt that will happen.

In case you want my view, Vulcan, choice willow, aldred and H4l will allow you a custom made bat from a real bat maker and there just companies on this forum that I have used.

The bats were pretty much finished but there was one raw cleft there but no machinery I saw that was usual in a workshop ie press or drawknife but was a sander

Talks a bit but does not go on and on

Did try to emphasise his press and other equipment was down south and he was moving them up but that was 2 years ago

Picked up a bat last year - all at the workshop that I saw were pre-made but if that doesn't put you off rest assured they are excellent quality and the one I had was a beauty

John is a really nice guy and admitted to me that he bought a lot of the bats in - depends if you want to see the bat's birth certificates or not...  If not and you want a decent bat from a nice guy then you'll be fine.  Otherwise, go on the recommendations from earlier and contact a bat maker.

He hand makes every single one of my bats, I've been there and witnessed him doing it.

Really! What do you class as hand made? Did you see him splice the handle, shape by hand, drum sand, rasp the handle then bind and finish or did you see him shape a cleft that already looked like a 90% finished bat?

The later is I believe what happens and that to me is not hand made. Fair play to him for making it work but Woodstock is not for me I'm afraid.

Regardless of where in the process of making a bat that John steps in, the CBF snobbery should not put you off. The few I've used have all been very good...

It's not snobbery at all mate, just my opinion on the brand and the way they market there product. As I have said all along. Never said they were not or would not be good.

I have used 5 Woodstock bats to date and being 100% honest, they have all been top performers and he got the specs and feel absolutley spot-on.

Not bothered whether the do 10% or 90% or the work himself as for me only performance and pick-up matter.
