This is starting to become a bugbear of mine. The graphics and colours on a bat are stickers. Not decals!
To quote from wikipedia:
"A decal (pron.: /ˈdiːkæl/, /dɨˈkæl/, or /ˈdɛkəl/) or transfer is a plastic, cloth, paper or ceramic substrate that has printed on it a pattern or image that can be moved to another surface upon contact, usually with the aid of heat or water. The word is short for decalcomania, which is the English version of the French word décalcomanie. The technique was invented by Simon François Ravenet, an engraver from France who later moved to England and perfected the process he called "decalquer" (which means to copy by tracing); it became widespread during the decal craze of the late 19th century."
What we have on our bats is a sticker!
Is it just me, or am I the only one that gets annoyed by this?!
-
YES!
Gold star for you mate. Don't know when this 'decal' thing started popping up, but it does grate on me! It's a sticker, nothing else

That argument on IJC's facebook opened this can of worms. The use of decals needs to stop! ;)

To use the word decal when mentioning/speaking of stickers is improper use of the term but some terms become part of common slang and are accepted, for e.g. when UK folks used the word k.n.o.b as a derogatory term...its not really what you use it as now is it? but we all know what is meant...
I am not a fan of the term decals either but tolerance and acceptance are good qualities as one is bound to slip-up everynow and then themsleves...
also admins not cursing or trying to beat the filter but just trying to get my point across.
-
I agree, I think i may use the forum swear filter for a positive move...
-
Hehe, you're a bad man Buzz!

Like, however anybody reading this later will think we've all gone mad arguing about stickers and stickers

well done sir buzz i kinght you on the grounds of common sense ;)
-
Have I missed something??!! ???
-
^ Good question. Been offline for one day and completely baffled??
-
stickers aren't the same as stickers??
Wasn't aware of smoking anything funny but this makes no sense at all... ???
-
The swear filter is changing the word de-cal to stickers
-
Write the word
D.E.C.A.L.S
Without full stops obviously, people were frustrated at the constant use of said word above. It is now considered politically incorrect to use in discussions about things that go on bats.
-
So the word stickers now becomes stickers??
stickers stickers stickers
-
I think this is the worst kind of censorship :D
De-cal Stu
-
I'm confused still....
-
D.E.C.A.L.S is a term used in the aerospace industry for stickers.
-
is it wrong to have de-cals re worded? should i change it back?

are they stickers or decals though?
-
Decals is a nicer sounding word, so I prefer it. I thought it a bit strange at first, but stickers is so 2012 now! It's all about the decals now...
-
Stickers or labels for me. Decals is wrong terminology but I guess to most it's interchangeable. Where cricket bats are concerned, I think it's a 'Jasonism'.
-
Not a single post by Alvaro in this thread, something is wrong. :o
-
Having worked in the industry, this is my opinion.
Stickers are what children play with.
Labels are for products.
Decals don't get a mention.
Just my thoughts anyway
-
Decals is a horrible word! Reading it has severely impacted on my enjoyment of the forum !?!
-
Decals were what you got in Airfix kits to make the planes you'd built and painted look like they had real ID.
Stickers were made by Panini and you bought to go in your World Cup 86 Album...
