Title: Another bat
Post by: mad_abt_cricket on April 01, 2013, 08:23:49 PM
Made this one for my club. Got the free hand to made any profile I think is best. Had no specific profile in mind and just went with the flow. Intent was to make a bat with a low middle with a good pickup.

Final Specs:

Weight : 2.10.2 fully dressed.
Spine max: 60 mm
Edge max: 31 mm
Min concaving

Picks up pretty well. Feedback Appreciated!

This is the first ever bat I have made in one flow. Took me little more than 4 hours.

Pictures ( For a change indoor ones :) ) :

Lovely looking bat again, the toe looks laver-esque. Surprising how a good picture can make a bat look stunning.

Umm not sure if it resembles tour. I think Tour has a rounded back and hardly any spine.

Thank you. I feel that now hands are more controlled and efficient as compared to few months back.

I think this one is my favourite of yours so far! :) Love how the profile is just large all over, along with pretty much no concaving that I can see of, and also a good edge size with a good spine height. It kind of reminds me a bit of my old Woodworm Flame, which was a great profile! 8)

Thanks Tushar.  Large spine ( Distinction shape) is my personal favorite. Need some oversize clefts though to make that profile.

I think Vantage emerald is a good starting point and as far as I know they are using regular clefts so could be worth a try...I am yet to see large spine bat with minimal concaving...

Here is another idea to think about, create bat with highish spine but once the spine reaches its max height it never goes back down in spine height(or minimally) till the toe, no concaving on the bat at all except for last/bottom 4-5 inches on the bat...combination of L&W Legacy & SAF's C to V shape (but only for bottom)...wonder if that would work...considering Legacy worked makes me think this will too as it would have a bit better pick-up...

From what I could imagine from your description, a raw handled cleft has that shape already :), the shape will form by shortening the edges of that cleft and gradually removing the wood towards the spine making the spine meet the handle gradually but I am not sure if that would take off much weight off the cleft. Certainly requires special cleft to create such bat in a relatively lighter weight ( around 2.12).

The spine  would start from the toe in a straight angled line and reach it's maxium around 5 inches from the toe, then it will stay straight horizontal for whole of the middle and then again gradually goes down to meet the handle.

Thanks Mate, still working on your grips suggestion. I have something in my mind but short of cash right now to invest in that.

Think of it like this bat and concaving starts on the bottom 4-5 inches only...I had one of these at 2'12 but the pick-up was too much for me...

Apart from concaving.. you also want the spine to meet the toe gradually from 5 inches bottom?

You mean spine height decreasing and being flush/flat with the toe? height decreasing is ok but not flush with the toe,,,like epic or icon but more prominent
