I want one now!
Wish I'd bought one when I started playing but went for a Woodworm instead (I still lose sleep over this 7 years on)   :(

YES, YES, YES! :D I might actually buy one... 8) It does look a little thin on the toe, but I have a feeling the English shame will differ slightly. :D

FML, might have to get over my hatred of flat faces and get one. Don't suppose this will have a normal, curved face too?

Goodness gracious me! This looks lovely, just when I had written GM off, they came up with this.

Safe to say Colesy is man to be blamed on forum to make all of us fond of Purist :-[

: ( . I was hoping for an exact replica of a purist with the old stickers or closer . I have to thank Chad for making me a huge fan for he sold me a Purist which changed my perception of traditional shape.

Tom is this concrete, or will a whole lot of begging persuade them to tilt slightly more to the old shape?
Title: Re: The Purist Returns

It's a purist by name only surely?
Title: Re: The Purist Returns
Post by: Colesy on April 11, 2013, 08:57:03 PM
To be honest it's a traditional shape with bigger edges, I'd happily use this shape. I just hope they make a few final adjustments before production, only minor details.

Andy's shape first. not b3

I think the first bat I had seen with offset edges was a Special profile from Laver, and the person said it was from 2008. Might have actually been your PB Dave. :) I'm not sure who invented it, but the first person I heard about the thinking behind it was Andy at SAF!

Are we seriously treating Wikipedia as a reliable source now??

Back on topic this doesn't really seem anything like the old Purist so rather disappointing for me

It was I not taking credit for it the bat came like that there was no input from me I guess it was built around anomalies for the weight and to make the shape for that weight

I would never put down a batmaker of Andy ilk

No but show me a off set edged bat that pre dates the laver special profile I sure there about.

Back on topic now it leaked I bet it changes

Apart from the off-setting, not sure I see much difference between the Octane/Argon and this. Real shame, a 25-30mm edge with a higher, slightly concaved spine was surely the way to go and would give the bat some USP in a crowded market, similar to the Vantage Emerald or a smaller H4L Tempo.

This is not a purist. It is simply a GM bat with poor copies of Purist stickers...

Stickers do sell bats though! :-[ If only they had it in these stickers and maybe just a slight variation on this profile...

Since edges also seem to attract attention, Nick's suggestion about the profile seems like a good idea. :)

Nope. Make the above bat. Match it in every single way. They are run machines.

Think GM might have been deterred from the original PURIST shape due to low sales from 1885.

Think GM might have been deterred from the original PURIST shape due to low sales from 1885.

Given that you could only buy the 1885 in 808 and up, I would expect that had a bigger impact on sales of it.

Pretty disappointed with that new Purist.

The original Purist was an amazing allround bat, seemed to suit front and back foot play.

Well you don't want to write  GM off as I am swinging a lovely 2.8 Shane Watson player edition flare around at the moment along with a GM Icon LE F2 and both are amazing bats and to back up GM further in Exeter in tony pryce sports have some amazing 808 and lower models with great balance and grains. I am sure they will do well with a purist and make it a great bat!!!!

Am jealous of your 2.8 Shane Watson flare. Love the profile of those bats but all are to heavy.

me too.  Mine is 2' 12.  Probably a little too heavy for me but its a fantastic bat.  I'd love one that was 2' 8.

Yeah  a great bat hand picked from the factory, and a friend has 2 of them one at 2.8 and 2.9. I have to say though I will look forward to seeing the purist back again as I had the LE gloves with red detailing to match the purist colours which only fell apart last year after 5 years of heavy use.

Not massively keen on the shape, hate the stickers. I don't really see the point in bringing back a model that's not that old, and wasn't particularly distinctive in the first place.

Also, I wish they'd find somewhere else on the bat to put the F2 label, adding it after the model names spoils the look a little

They should bring back the the GM Striker (my first bat) Size 3, bottle green with lime green detailing, 10mm edges with a 30mm spine, flat face, no concaving :)

The re-launch of the Purist and Maestro seem just lazy.

Neither looks like the original. Bat making has moved on since both.
I do think it shows a lack of verve and sophistication.

When GN re-launched the Dynadrive and GN100 they where a modern take on the original. A triumph.

GM seem to have missed the point. Half arsed and lazy.

Seen this in the flesh, nice grains but i think the colours are ugly, plus it's not too much like the old purist

GM thinking: Make new bat half similar to old bat + give old name to attract customers who liked the old bat = profit.

I think it is in the hands of Levi as he is a Southern Hemisphere player, I am not entirely sure if it is coming to the UK.

I agree, the shape is lovely, same with the new Maestro.
